Hi everyone, I’ve had Olaf for a year this month (happy bunniversary!!!) and in that time we’ve tested four types of litter. Yesterdays News, Simply Pine and Feline Pine were good but not perfect. My longest-running litter has been Aspen Supreme. The aspen scent is strong but I like the absorbency and quality compared to the previous three.
My one issue seems to be that there is always a strong odor as soon as he goes. This dissipates quickly but I can catch a waft of it from across the room as soon as he’s hopped out of the box. It’s fine with me but I’m sure my guests don’t appreciate it. To be clear, Olaf has a clean bill of health and the scent has been consistent over the long-term so I’m confident it’s not a sudden illness or problem with his urine. He is a year and a half old and has been neutered since 6 months.
Is this a problem any of you experience? Should I just accept as something that happens?
At the moment I use a high-sided corner box with a grate. I line the bottom with a paper towel and cover it with a layer of Aspen Supreme (usually three scoops). I change the box ever 3 days. I find the scent is strongest right after I clean the box so I wonder if it is because the fresh litter is releasing it’s most powerful scent upon the initial moisture, combining with the urine smell?
