One more question for you all..

I’ve read that rabbits don’t have good night vision. Does this mean we should leave some light on for my two bun buns at night? Should we leave on the big, overhead light in their room, or maybe the hallway light down the way from them so it’s just a little light? Or, should we get a nightlight? Or, do they like darkness?

Probably a dumb question, but I want my buns to be happy!

        Thanks..

you can just leave your light open in your hallway or anywhere you want because bunnies are more often active during midnight. they really love to hop and hop anywhere in the house. its good also if you secure your wires first because they love to chew. and always leave food and water to them beacause after playing, they loved to eat a lot….

Hmm I never read that before…
I would think that bunnies had good night vision since they are
wild rabbits hop around at night and eat…and stuff…hmmm

I live in the city so my apartment never gets totally dark, and Pepper is just fine.  She does a lot of zooming in the middle of the night, and I have to be careful when I get up to visit the loo as the "street" (hallway) is often quite busy between 1 and 2 AM.

That is a very interesting question! Bunnies can see a little in the dark, but like most, need a little light to help out to actually see better (just like us humans).  They use their other senses like ears and whiskers when there is not enough light.  Rabbits are diurnal animals, they are most active at dusk & dawn.  Athough my two seem to have a good time at night as well.

Here is an interesting article about what rabbits can see:

My bunnies have about as much light as a night light in their room. And the ones in my bedroom actually don’t have much light at all, however that doesn’t stop them from bunny 500ing all over my room at 3 AM – nor has it stopped them from running onto my bed and jumping over my face…I think a little bit of light can be helpful for them though, pitch black darkness is probably hard on their eyes.

My understanding is that they don’t have great bright light and not the best night vision (not like cats anyway) But they are do very well at night because their whiskers can help them feel their way, and that is way they like to go over the same path over and over again so they can get a mental map. Their vision works best in lower light – like when it’s dusk or dawn. So a little soft nightlight may be best.
