Lifespan?

My bunny named Lola is probably a
American Chinchilla. He’s a pretty
large rabbit probably 9-10 pounds
last I weighed him.

I’ve had him a while going on my
third year with him so I’ve been
wondering how long he’ll live.

I give him time to run indoors
and feed him lots of hay,
fresh greens, water,and pellets.
He’s a house bunny and around me
all day and night.

I’ve heard larger rabbits can live
between 6-7 years or up to 10-12years
I’m sceptical about 10-12 years
because isn’t that for dwarfs and
smaller buns?

I was just wondering what other
bunny owners have heard because the
information seems everywhere for
American Chinchillas.

Have any of you had larger bunnies?

Rabbits actually live to be about 9-12 years

I’ve always read that like horses and dogs, the larger breeds tend to have shorter lifespans than the smaller ones. The bigger breeds like NZ’s can live to 8-10 years.

Your probably have many years left with your bun.

8-10 years !!!!!!! – I hadn’t counted on that long !!!!!

Bunny lived to be 11 1/2 years old. She weighted about 8 pounds when she died.  We now have two Flemish babies… 11 months old,  I’ve read that the life span for Flemish is about 10 years.  Supposedly the story is that because of their relatively large size, 10 years is their expected lifetime.  As for the lifetime of our Flemish rabbits, I think we’re out were going to wait a long time to determine exactly how long our Flemish bunnies wiil live.

All for our current house rabbits,  they are now 11 months old. They live in their pen most of the day, even though the pen door is opened all day and all night.  After a year of maturity, they’ve become really good bunny housemates with excellent litter box behaviors and also they’ve outgrown their need to be  chewing the furniture, drapes, etc.  They have been neutered.  I think that their now chewing of oat  will satisfy their chewing problems, if for no other reason is, that oat hay tastes better than furniture, carpets, drapes, etc.

There is a bunny I’ve seen on Facebook called Josephine who is 18. At Bright Eyes Sanctuary. It’s very sad though as I just learnt she is soon to make the journey over the Bridge. Her caretakers feel it is time with the ailments she is living with. Such a beautiful girl.
