Leaving bunny with someone else?

Hello.

So, it seems, my parents have decided on going on a trip and to take me with them for about one month. The only problem is that I am absurdly afraid to leave my bunny alone with my brother (that is 22 years old and he dislikes my bunny quite a lot – he wouldn’t touch him and I know he will forget to care for him). My parents say that we need to leave him with a relative or with some friends of theirs, but I’m afraid of doing that also, because they know nothing of bunny care and I just. Cannot leave him like that. I won’t know if he gets enough exercise or enough food or clean water and that he won’t get hit by accident or that he won’t chew on cables (my room is bunny proof!)

I just cannot trust to let him in someone else’s care. My mother would have been fine, for she knows to care for him. But others… not so sure. And I doubt I can take him on board on the airplane and even then, he might get too stressed, which I don’t want. I want to opt for an animal pension (which is inside an animal hospital, so there will be experienced people taking care of  him) that I have found but my parents hate the idea.

I really do not know what to do. I’ve thought about doing as they say and leaving them the food and instructions but I’m not sure.

I’m sorry for babbling. I’d appreciate any suggestions.

Well, I think leaving him with a friend is a good option. He may not get the same exercise, but as long as he is fed, his litter is cleaned and he is taken care of as long as you leave instructions he should be fine.

Do any of the relatives or friends of your parents live close enough so that they could come observe your care and also let your bunny get used to them? They could come over a few times before you leave. You could instruct them on feeding and let them do it – have them put together salads. They could pet the bunny and handle it, which hopefully the bunny would allow. They could let it out for exercise, and you could make sure that they would be able to get it back in the cage or pen easily enough. Also, if you live nearby and If the bunny is to stay at their house, you could go over there and pick out a room to set up its pen in and tell them how to bunny proof it.

If you still don’t feel confident in these relatives or friends, you could check into the place inside the animal hospital. It may be that the cost is more than your parents want to pay.

You could also see if you can hire a professional pet-sitter. They should do whatever you ask. I agree that you should invite whoever you decide on over before your trip to show them the ropes.
