Lapizole – Continue or Enough?

We’re currently giving our buns a 28 day course of Lapizole to ensure they don’t have EC (they’re both rescues so I don’t know who they’ve been in contact with!) and so far we’ve done 14 days. 1ml per kilo per day.

They’re not too happy about being picked up; we’ve only had them about 3 months and they were outdoor buns before so I don’t think they had much handling. We tried putting it on their pellets and separating them to control the dosage, but they wouldn’t eat their food at all as they’re so inseparable! So we have to resort to syringing it into their mouths. They don’t like the taste and just let it dribble out of their mouths (but they get it in the end when they wash it, and the human-cooties, off!). The girl seems to get over it pretty quickly but the boy – who was already more timid – seems to get really upset by it and I’m a little worried its affecting his eating. I have seen him eat but not for a while after having the medicine, and I’ve noticed some “micro-poops” in the tray as though he’s gone a long period without food.

My question is – should I continue giving it to them for the rest of the 28 days, or is 14 enough? I’ve seen other discussions about Lapizole vs. another brand which says shorter courses more often. I can’t wait to finish this but I want it to be a one time thing, not several times a year! What do you think?

You’ve started it and you’ve made it this far, so there’s no sense in giving up now!

It needs to be taken for the 28 days to work so all your effort will be wasted if you give up. It’s like antibiotics; you need to complete it, haha!
When I did it for mine, I put it on their pellets and the pellets sort of soaked it up

Thanks Tessie. I Was kind of hoping someone would say at that dosage 9 days would be enough! I wish I could put it on their food, but I’m pretty sure I’d end up with one getting too much & the other not getting enough so I daren’t!
