There are a LOT of stray cats around where I live. I try to have most of them spayed and neutered especially spayed. But sometimes that doesn’t always happen. This cat wandered into my yard not long ago she was very much pregnant I named her Cupcake because she was shaped like a cupcake lol. As I suspected she was too far along to spay so I made her cozy in my air conditioned attic. She is very content to stay up there and she really really really hates people.
Last night I go out to let the dogs run around the yard and I hear this ‘mew mew mew’ (the meow of a kitten LOL) and for the life of me cannot figure out where it is coming from. So I run upstairs to check Cupcake and she is gone
of course she is! She doesn’t want pesky humans around her babies! But then I go back out and she is hanging out with my dog Cocoa (her bestie) but no kittens *eek*. I get a flashlight and start searching. I find one in a food bowl I use for stray dogs. The mew mew mew stops so I think she only had one.
But then I hear another mew and cannot find this kitten anywhere. I admittedly have super long grass and the little kitten was squirming around in the grass. I go grab a box and put them in with momma first I tried a carrier and she freaked but she was ok with the box. No more mews so I go back inside with cats and dogs (who were intirely too interested).
I always take my dog Ziggy back out before bed and I hear the mew mew mew again! This one was allllll the way on the other side of the yard behind a rock. Grab it run upstairs since it was pretty cold in the dirt. Go back out this time with a flashlight and on my hand and knees and comb the whole yard and under the porch I finally found the last kitten who was meowing loudly he/she was underneath a dog house!
Seriously what was the momma cat doing it’s not easter I don’t want to hunt eggs!
ANYWAY here are some pics
My favorite is the really oddly colored black/gray???? something one
These are before I got a clean box and made it more comfortable for them. So excuse the kitten poo lol.
Finally found them all!

Momma haaates me she was acutally growling at me

My favorite picture look at the feet!
Cute!! heheh the black one might have a different father! That’s VERY rare for a female to be orange tabby-it means both her parents had to be orange tabby. It’s an x-linked gene I believe. If any of the orange babies are female-thats super rare! I learned how to sex kittens two years ago-if you take pics of their bottoms I could maybe help?
That’s so what happened to me last last halloween when the feral cat in my neighborhood had kittens-took one day to round her up and all the kittens (last halloween was the puppies…yi…)
What are your plans? Will you adopt them yourself or is their a rescue group that can help? Kudos btw for doing this-well all the spay/neutering you do as well! Kudos ![]()
Oh how cute
!! That makes me miss my foster kitties so much!!!
Lol I know nothing about cat genetics I am not really a cat person. My cats Koda and Kittybelle is like the only cats who I really bonded with. I will probably keep Cupcake and tame her then try to find her a home. I may keep one of the kittens (the blackish one) myself. My dogs are pretty intolerant of cats it took 2 years for them to accept Koda and kittybelle so I know it can be done. Hmm don’t think I have posted pictures of them before since they avoid the rabbits like they have the plague.
I luckily know a ton of cat people who love orange cats of any kind that will probably take the other 3 kittens and possibly Cupcake once she is tamed and spayed.
I didn’t know orange female tabby’s were rare? I know male Calico colored cats are considered rare. I had one when I was little and people were always trying to buy him LOL. But then were disappointed when they were told he was sterile.
Lol at least stray dogs have their pups somewhere I can actually reach them.
Well the caveat is I think and have heard female orange tabby’s are rare and I think it’s x-linked
I’m not a cat person either though lol
I think I read it in genetics-I mean it’s not super rare, it’s just that both parents have to be orange tabby…one in six orange tabbies are female vs. 1/2 of other colors that are not sex linked. But I think thats an adoption perk! (If I’m remembering totally correctly…I am getting old! lol)
Lol as long as they are adorable and not evil =P I surprisingly have a slight fear of cats. Kittens are awesome adult cats I am a little leery around.
So cute! You’re so awesome for helping her out!
I like the black one too. I was always the black sheep so I tend to always like the oddball of the litter.
Although I really like orange kitties too. I think all cats everywhere are super adorable (just like bunnies). Hard to pick favorites.
I will have some kitten pictures to post soon too. 2 cats at my horse barn had babies about 2 weeks ago. 9 babies in total. They have 3 cats there: 2 females and one male. The male is fixed but that’s not enough when you have neighbors. I was upset to see them pregnant because they were very young themselves. One of them Momma’s looks very much like my Bridge kitty, Nefera and I just love her. They had their babies a day apart, about 2 weeks ago. I walked into the barn and found one of the Mom’s with still-wet kittens. I had never seen any so young. I have some pics to upload from my camera and will post them.
While I love having kittens around, it’s very upsetting to me too, because I know that the SPCA is over-flowing with kittens and that’s 9 homes that won’t be available to SPCA kittens. This could have easily been avoided. It’s really hard for me too because I want one soooo bad. There’s a little tabby I am especially fond of, but with the way vet bills have been accumulating, there’s absolutely no way my bf will go for it.
Sorry to hog up the thread with my kitten news too, but I wanted to share.
Same here I was always the odd one out and I tend to gravitate toward those in my animals.
I have had to help cat deliver babies since they tend to want to have them breach around me for some reason. It is gross fascinating and scary all at the same time.
Yeah I am thinking she got pregnant by my neighbors cat hence the black one since they get animals let them be indoors for a little while then just throw them out. Which is kind a good thing in a way since he child is pure evil and likes to lock kittens and cats in coolers when it is hot out (yeah he supposedly goes to counseling).
I won’t take the kittens to the shelters here they are so overrun most get put down as soon as they come in. The only way I do is if the shelter I volunteer at has room since they are a no kill shelter and actually have an adoption process. So when I find them they are fixed vetted and rehomed. The shelters don’t spay or neuter here either s they are just helping the problem along most of the time. You go in pay $30 and pick a cat.
At the barn we used to board at, there was one cat who got preggers (the owner of the barn was pissed – he’d been told she’d been spayed by the person he got her from) and rumors circulated around the barn but no one really confirmed or denied them. I believed them but mom didn’t (mama cat wasn’t a big pregnant.
Well, one night she was rooting around in the “kitchen” (room where all the meds and stuff were put) and trying to get into the cabinets. I told my mother she was nesting and she laughed at me and told me not to listen to rumors.
Sure enough, an hour later, she was found with one kitten in the cabinet and still in labor. She was transferred to a cardboard box with a towel where she birthed 8 more kittens during a torrential thunderstorm (it even knocked over the port o potty) while 11 year old me watched in awe.
I have had that happened I got a ‘spayed’ dog from someone but she kept getting fatter and fatter even though she was active and her food intake didn’t change. Then I was asleep and she jumped on top of me and had her first puppy on my chest (ew btw).
Kittens are doing great getting their tummies full. Momma cat is not happy that I moved her downstairs but the air decided to stop working in the attic and it is staying around 100f here so she is in a box with a pen around the box because my dogs will not stop pestering the box.
She won’t eat the high quality cat food I use she wants the crap food lol. So going to try to get her to eat some Wellness canned food.
