I have posted in the past at one time I had a family of 7 (out of 8) 10 week old baby bunnies in my care. I got a hold of a girl i knew who had one of the rex coated babies (#8) from this litter recently to see how he was doing. She wrote back he had passed away little under a year ago now
The 8 babies would have been about 3 years old now, but only two are still alive… and I have them Suzy & Spencer.
It breaks my heart b/c I knew each one of those bunnies I named them all, watched them grow and took care of them after their sputers. Memories of each, and their silly personalities.
Three of the babies had died before they were even a year old. After there bodies were examined by more then one Vet the cause of death was odd looking to them, some sort of kidney damage they believe was passed from their Mom bunny when the babies were still growing inside her. The home they came from was a women who kept the family of bunnies in a bathtub in her home, and kept allowing the buck and doe (Angora & Rex) to breed. I was told it was disgustingly dirty. The rescue I volunteer for took the babies (hence I had them) and spayed the female rabbit for the lady, I cannot remember what the story on the buck was.
It frustrates me to no end how people can allow their animals to live and nevermind create new life in sickness and unhealthy living conditions. These people are so selfish. Because this women wanted to teach her children ‘the miricle of life’ she destroyed the little lives she brought into this already overpopulated world
Cookie, Peaches, Lisa, Jordan, Zeke & Sara … Hoepfully though there lives were short ones, they were well lived
None of the bunnies were adopted, after the first three deaths we decided not to make them adoptable, as we didn’t know how long their life span was going to be.
