LOL the good part about cleaning cages is that you get to meet all the bunnies. Can’t clean up poo without running into the little machnes that make it. :0)

Have fun Shayna! I’m sure they’ll be happy to have you on board. Try not to get to attached to the little poo machines…

You know one thing I noticed about you…. You really really love animals and are willing to put yourself out there to help.  You have rescued ferretts and didn’t you help with a guinea pig too… had mites I think. Maybe it was someone else with the GP though.

No matter I really notice you really have a big heart for critters.  Are you thinking of becoming a veterinarian?

Haha thanks guys!! I’m so happy to be able to do this, so I’ll be able to interact with all three of my favorite animals! I own ferrets, pet sit rats, and take care of bunnies :]! It worked out perfectly! Again thanks Kristie!

bunnytowne, Yep I was the one who took care of the GP, rescued the ferret (the one who almost died four days ago), and I’ve helped a couple bunnies :]! It can be frustrating though, because the GP I helped the owners refused to take him to the vet, so he died two days after I took him back to their home (it was supposed to be a one day thing-turned out to be more like a week cause they wouldn’t pick him up and my mom wouldn’t let me keep him until he got better) and the bunny I pet sat died a month after I took care of it. The other bunny’s owner disappeared. So it’s frustrating, but at least they had some love in their life. I’m thinking about becoming a vet tech, but I’m not sure. Even though it would be helping an animal, I don’t think I could assist in surgery or put an animal down. I still have a while to think about it though :]! My mom thinks my love for animals is an obsession, I call it a passion. Thanks!

It is definitely a Passion Bigsis…

You never know what you are capable of til you try. I bet you can do it.  Picture surgery as helping the animal instead of causing it harm.  I got to see a little bit of Ruby’s surgery too.  Was very interesting.

I just bet you would be a good vet tech.   I wanted to be a vet but I had such a phobia of needles  now at 40 I am over it.  Wish I would have tried for a vet career.    Now I am disabled so that is out of my realm.

Just thinking if I would have gone to college I probably wouldn’t have developed this dissability.  Oh well no time for regrets. Things are what they are.

I encourage you to try anyways.  I bet you can do it.

Just got back!! It was awesome! All of the bunnies were great and it was so good to hug and cuddle a bunny after a year :]! We got the litter boxes done first which was somewhat gross (I’m never eating coco puffs again, if you get what I mean, lol!), but I didn’t mind it too much. After we cleaned the litterboxes we moved some wood in Mary Ellen’s back yard (they’re having an open house tomorrow) which was not fun in the 90 degree weather lol!! After that Kristie and I vaccumed and dusted, then the fun part came!! Kristie cut this cute bunnies nails, then I brushed and cuddled her while Kristie plucked another bunny (Timmy). Oh my gosh!! He was moulting like crazy!! With all the fur that got plucked off him you could have made another bunny!! I got to see a flemmie today, too! He’s huge!! But my favorite bunny is Benny. He stole my heart!! I would open the cage door and he’d run to it and shove his head under my hand demanding pets. I would start petting him and he’d soak it all up!! So cute!! Here’s his petfinder page:

I believe he’s been there around a year. Gosh I want him so bad! Such a cutie! I can’t believe he was a stray!! Anyways I’ll end my blabbing, lol!

AND…don’t forget the educational part. She saw some urine scald on an older rabbit and a case of poopy butt on the bunny I plucked. She did great today and with the help I was able to spend more time grooming bunnies than cleaning cages. :0)

Yeah!! That is just great! Incredible careers have been made from obsessions/passions because it’s much easier to be a success and work hard to get there when you just love what you do. There are plenty of opportunities out there in the working world that will fit your passion for animals if that’s what you end up wanting to do.

I think she’d be really well suited for being a small animal coordinator at a municipal shelter. She knows a ton about the small animals and shelters really need that. She could do an awesome job pairing people up with exotic adoptions and get the ones who don’t get adopted farmed out to rescues.

Oh yep can’t forget the urine scald and the poopy bum, lol! Animals will definently be included in my career I just have to find something. I would love to run a rescue of some sorts, but the problem with that is I can’t make a living off just running a rescue. The secretary of Bunny Lu asked me if I still wanted a bunny after cleaning up the litterboxes. I was like “Heck Yeah”! Didn’t say that though ;], LOL! With one or two bunnies I wouldn’t have to clean up that much poo anyways. And BB, Benny reminds me a lot of your Jack!

                                      Benny is a handsome guy.
Sounds like you had a great time and they are already benefiting from your help. Give me a mound of bunny poo over one doggie scoop any day.
Probably with your help the litter pans will be less offensive since you can clean more often.
I was thinking you could go into rescue work. But you’re a bit young to worry about it now, and it’s not certain that you can’t make a living. Just make sure your courses in school lend themselves to animal sciences and administrative skills. (Like biology and business management, etc.)

I found surgery to be like car repair. If you get past the fact that it’s living organisms, it’s can be fascinating the way everything all works together. You may not be as squeamish as you think, and the nice part about surgery is that it’s almost always immediately rewarding because it makes someone better.
                                      Keep up the good work.
