Just spayed! Questions

Hey everyone!

Pamper was spayed last night.The surgery was successful. The vet let me see the organs they extracted and they looked swollen. She told me that had she not been spayed, she would’ve been a prime candidate for some type of uterine pathology.

So this morning she isn’t moving too much. She went to my bathroom and laid down in the place she always does. She did drink a lot of water and ate some basil and spinach (no luck with hay yet). She looks uncomfortable and doesn’t move away when I pet her. My question is mainly, what can I do to help her recover quicker?

Can I hold her? My vet said that she can do the regular things she does everyday. But I’m not sure if this would help with her incisions/general swelling.

Should I keep offering hay? 

How long does it take for them to recover? I read that males recover quicker because the surgery isn’t as invasive and that it also depends on the breed.

It’s good she is eating greens. Did the vet give you any pain medications to give her?

I would not hold her right now…it can take a few days to recover completely. The best thing to help her recover quickly is to let her rest and try not to hover over her too much.

Greens are usually the first things they will eat and hay and pellets last.

I am giving her plently of greens, and offered hay (and she finally ate some). It wasn’t a lot but it’s something. I was told I could give her half a baby aspirin. My vet also gave me holistic drops to administer these days.

I just saw that she jumped to her tray and peed and pooped. But it was like one big soft poop. Could this be from the medicine she got and the stress from the surgery?

Yes, a few small mushy poops are normal at first, they should start to look normal in another day or so.
