Just neutered, proper behavior and incision checking?

Hey, guys! So, my bun was just neutered yesterday.

He had his procedure at 12:30, came home with me around 3:30-4:30. They said he would be groggy, but he was perfectly normal! He was exploring, eating, drinking, seemed very active. He’s even taking his medicine just fine

My question is should he be that normal in behavior? I know that sounds strange to ask…

But he is a bit rambunctious and likes to hop and run and I’m afraid it’ll bother his incision >_<

I would confine him to the cage, but he’s peeing outside his litterbox and I’m paranoid about the incision getting infected!

And then there’s the issue of checking his incision to see if it’s okay. He doesn’t like being picked up, but I have figured out that he’ll let me lift him up by his front paws enough that I can take a look.

My husband and I checked, but he’s a fluffy bun and I guess they didn’t shave him? So, we can’t really see anything and he gets jittery when I hold him too long or try to touch him there.

I dunno, I’m just really worried. He seems fine and is even lounging right now, but eh… I guess I just need the reassurance, lol!

Yep! Its normal for male bunnies to be perfectly normal after their neuter, just as it is normal for them to be grumpy afterward. Their surgery is a lot less hard on them, than a spay is on a female bun. Out of my two neutered buns, one was a bit grumpy and sleepy, the other was perfectly normal, and dare i say, happier! Try to keep him confined to a cage or pen for a few days so his wounds can heal properly. Although it is nice that your bun isnt in much pain, you dont want him opening the wounds on accident. Running around isnt as bad as binkying or kicking/dugging often

To look at his wounds, sometimes you can get a quick look when bunnies sprawl out and relax. If he doesnt let you do that, i would keep trying to monitor his wounds the way you tried earlier. As long as you dont see blood in his cage, hes eating+drinking normal, and he acts fine, you shouldnt have to worry. If at any point he starts paying attention to his wounds, such as licking them, you may have to call the vet and ask for advice on how to get him to stop
