I just adopted my very first house rabbit last week, and I’m so thrilled with how wonderful she is!  Maple Tiberius B– is wild rabbit colored, brown with a little white tail, and she seems really big for how little she weighs.

Maple was found abandoned in a rental property by the rental manager and turned over to our local animal control. She’s a fully grown adult, with no signs of seniority, so my vet guessed her to be somewhere around a year or two old. My husband and I have arbitrarily declared her birth day to be our wedding day (7/10/2011), because it’s roughly accurate and easy to remember. So far, she is shockingly mellow for a rabbit, showing no fear of our toddler niece, Amelia, who tries very hard to be good, but well, is two and gets excited. (No worries, Amelia’s never unsupervised with Maple!)

I’ve been having a lot of fun getting to know her these last few days, and I’m excited about our future together! I’d like to foster other buns eventually, but right now, I live with way too many humans for that to work. One weird thing, though. Maple doesn’t really chew or play! She’s nibbled a twig here and there, and explored her room, but she hasn’t binkied or chewed any of the toys we’ve got her, or even our furniture! The is an unplugged lamp cord that she disdains! The vet said her teeth are fine and she eats plenty, but from what I’ve read it’s really weird.

She will just be getting used to her new surroundings, you’ll see a lovely little personality come out of her soon enough!,

              Welcome! She’s beautiful.

Actually that’s not too weird about not chewing cords and stuff – some rabbits just don’t. Sometimes too it’s a matter of maturing, if they are younger, they might and once the get older, they don’t. Consider yourself lucky :~)

She also may just be very laid back and will just enjoy hanging out with her new family.

she is very cute.. and don’t worry, it is never too late for a bunny to decide she would like to start sampling all of the furniture and cords in the house

Also their personalities evolve. which I find new and exciting. Just recently Bunjamin has started a shred paper and stuff stage and it’s fun to watch him go to town but he hasn’t always been that way. He used to ignore those kind of toys.

Congrats on becoming a bunny slave! She sounds like a wonderful and cute bun!

Welcome to BB! Congrats on the beautiful bun!

All of my buns were like that when we first brought them home — especially our girl. But after a few weeks (for the boys it only took a few days) she finally came out of her shell and started being a trouble-maker too!

                      She is adorable

It took my guy a while to share with me what toys he wanted to play with. He isn’t much of a chewer, but rather, a tosser. His favorite toys are paper-towel tubes stuffed with hay and treats (treats that rattle are the best, such as a few pellets) and bundles of sticks. He likes to toss the tube around–not chew on it. As for the sticks, he likes to unbundle them from their original binding and then, he likes for me to gather the sticks in my hand, hold them at nose-level, and then he pulls them from my hand, one-by-one, and tosses them to the floor until they are all out of my hand…then I gather them again and he takes them out one-by-one again. He can do this upwards of ten times in a row and gets really excited when he plays. He also enjoys tossing his bunny-rattle and slinky.

It took patience and accidents (me gathering his sticks while cleaning the pen led to the “pick-a-stick” game) to realize his preferences. He does also like chewing certain sticks and demolishes anything made of unpeeled willow. He also likes peeling the bark off of fresh (not dried) apple sticks.

Thanks for the welcome and encouragement, guys!  Here’s another picture of Maple, this time with a product we bought before we adopted her.  We had to run out that day and get a kitty litter box for her.

She is a beautiful bun. Congrats!

I look forward to hearing more about her and her coming out of her shell.

I made the same mistake with getting a corner litter box when I first got my buns. It worked out okay at first as they were only around 8 weeks old at the time, but I soon learnt as they got bigger that it wasn’t going to work.

Litter box thing happened here too! We got the small corner one then upgraded to the bigger corner one and then gave up and just got cat litter boxes. Hahaha.

Maple is so cute! I’m a new bunny slave too so welcome Ever since getting mine, I can’t stop looking at all these bunny things. As for the litter box, I just got a plastic container/bin from target but you could get them from the dollar store too and they work really well.
I was using hay in the litter box for a while but kept running out quickly, so I had quite a few people recommend horse stall pellets. They work great! But you may have already found a litter that works really well for you. Just a suggestion
