To minimize unpleasant stress on Panda and Fernando from running the vacuum cleaner, I bought a non-electric carpet sweeper (Bissell Natural Sweep) today at Walmart. It works quite well on their sisal play rug and picks up a lot of scattered hay on the main carpet that’s too spread out to be worth picking up by hand, though the compartments are small and have to be emptied after each use. Even though it’s manual rather than electric-powered, it still makes some noise that Panda in particular doesn’t go wild with delight over, but she and Fernando seem to like it a good deal better than the vacuum or Dust Buster.
P.S. The “rabbit emergency kit” (first aid kit) that I ordered a couple of weeks ago from the House Rabbit Resource Network in Texas arrived today. It’s a small package, but it has key supplies like Bene-Bac, Critical Care and simethicone, as well as feeding/medication syringes and a digital thermometer, and I feel a lot better having it around until I can get to a vet. Speaking of which, the buns will be having their first wellness checkup next Saturday morning. I’m taking them to an exotic-animal vet service in Fairfax that’s widely regarded as the best vet(s) for exotic pets in the DC area and is used by many Friends of Rabbits people, including Panda and Fernando’s former foster mother, who recommended a particular rabbit-savvy vet to me there who sees her own buns.
