Holy bunny-palooza! Is it really July 1st? ![]()
I just realized this when I posted in the other chat — moving it on over to here!!
“Awww, NBO! We actually just did nail trimmings this weekend and did the same thing to Nora but she didn’t bleed very much at all.
Today I did my drug test for my new job! And I signed up and registered for classes also! For business management.
AND last night I got to help our rescue, Rabbit Wranglers, go out and catch a stray rabbit! He was adorable. There were a ton of them but it’s so hard to catch them when there’s so much woody area for them to run into. There’s another guy there we put on high alert as he has very bad malocclusion and his tooth was jutting out horribly. He was also injured in his hind leg but since he’s just so on alert from his injuries we weren’t able to catch him. We put up a trap for someone to check a few times a day in the hopes that we can get him. At least we got one! It’s really depressing though. We caught the one on someones property and the only reason the guy let us was because he was a “new rabbit around here”. So we could take him. He was dead set on not letting us capture any of the others. He says they are like pets to him…. pets that he doesn’t take care of? He feeds them and he sold a litter of buns to the Petland out here. URGH. I almost died when I heard that as thats where we picked up Nora when she was so sick. He said “we sold them to them because they would find them good homes”… are you kidding me? So basically there not his pets, but they are but he doesn’t want to care for them… he kept saying they’re like wild rabbits now. They’ve been here for years. Except them he mentioned a white one that they hadn’t seen around lately…. I wonder why. It’s probably dead thanks to psychos like you. UGH. It’s so hard to hold your cool with people like that… but since the rabbit was on his property we HAD to be nice so we could at least get the one we found… it was so frustrating though! But totally worth it when we caught the one. He’s going for his vet visit on Tuesday to see if he’s healthy enough to find a forever home! Yayyyyyyy.”
So I took Abbie in to get her Rabies vaccine. And let me just say that I was NOT happy with the vet tech AT ALL she didn’t handle Abbie well. She was so rough and treated her like my dog was just a misbehaved, aggressive dog. And she was handling her rudely and making Abbie TERRIFIED of her. At the point I was like let me just hold her, she’ll do better that way. Because Abbie has NEVER acted that way at the vet and is always easy to handle and get evaluated. But this vet seriously brought out the worse in my dog.
Then, Abbie had an allergic reaction to the rabies vaccine. She was throwing up and so they injected her with a few shots and Abbie was looking so bad. Her gums were WHITE she was barely breathing. Her eyes were dilated all the way and she wasn’t responding to the environment and she even lost her bowels and pooped all over the table. Her temperature was spiking and the vet tech was the COLDEST person to two very stressed and afraid pet parents. I’m sitting here crying at my dogs side and she lacked compassion and warmth. She didnt seem bothered that I thought my dog was dying. We stayed there for about an hour waiting for Abbie to come around. The vet tech came in every few minutes and checked her temp and her gums and heart rate. She kept telling us to leave Abbie there in the hospital so they can hook her up to ivs but i just did not want to leave Abbie alone with them because she was already really stressed and afraid. So i opted to just stay there until i felt she was ok to come home. And I knew when Abbie was starting to feel better because every time the vet tech came in Abbie would start looking at me and try to crawl to our side. Abbie was so afraid of this vet tech. She couldn’t even stand up for a good hour because she was so weak.
Needless to say Abbie is home, and back to her normal self. Just tired and sleeping. She even tried playing when we got home but didnt last long cuz she is so tired. I don’t think I will be going back to that vets office. They just didnt seem to give a damn about animals and treat them like they were cutest thing in the world they have seen. Like that’s what I like in a vet is when they act like the dog is just sooooo cute! And talk baby talk. Nope not her. Straight forward and cold as ice!
Oh and Abbie needs to lose 3 pounds :/ she weighs 14 pounds and we got lectured about that too…
She has developed a splotchy rash all over her belly, chest, and neck and is quite itchy. I’m going to keep a very close eye on her over the next few hours. My poor baby ![]()
Hehe, my husband just rolls his eyes when the vet talks baby talk to the rabbits.
I’m sorry Abbie had such a horrible time and a horrible reaction to the vaccine. Has she had a reaction before? If she isn’t looking better, perhaps you should try taking her to a different vet. Was this vet you went to a new vet office? Or a new vet tech at a vet office you previously visited? She doesn’t sound very professional.
There is a new vet at my vet office. She is young, but very nice and she seems knowledgeable. One of my dog’s wart-y things exploded and I took her there. This was a few weeks ago. It was pretty cute though when we were there. My dog is normally nervous and upset, but she seemed good when I put her on the table. The vet was talking to her nicely. When she walked away to go get some supplies, my dog was actually wagging her tail and looking to see where she went. Either she really liked this new vet or she is getting senile in her old age.
already started off the morning with a kamikaze quail into one of our back windows
This was a new vet and I could tell the vet tech has been there for awhile. She acted almost as if she were tired with her job and wasn’t happy doing what she was doing.
When the vet tech walked in the first time Abbie was wagging her tail and greeting her and oh so excited. That quickly changed the way she handled her and Abbie’s excitement turned to fear and she was scared the whole time. She has never had a rabies reaction before so I was very surprised that it nearly took her life! I did some research and you can get your dog exempt from the vaccine if they have a reaction so I’m going to see what I can do. I just really don’t find the risk worthwhile. It was the scariest sight I have ever seen. And the vet wasnt comforting at all. Now her body is blood red covered in a rash and she is so itchy. Definitely going to be looking into a more warm vet. I think I would have liked the place if it wasn’t for that one person. Everyone else was so friendly except her and it sucks how Abbie had to experience that entire frightening situation. First the handling and then the allergic reaction all in one go. She has always enjoyed the vet but I think she is really traumatized by them.
Seeing her reaction when they walked into the room was heartbreaking how she went for, comfortable to immediate fear when she walked in. Makes me guilty just thinking about it ![]()
Nvm my state doesn’t offer medical exemption
idc, she will never be getting that shot again. I’m not risking her life like that again. That’s just ridiculous!
Be careful with not getting her vaccinated. They are pretty strict where I live about it. You can be ticketed for not having proof of vaccination. =\
Oh and vets will refuse to treat if the dog is not vaccinated. I think it is a liability thing. If you don’t have record, they will say they need to give them the rabies shot right then before they will treat. This applies even if you really did get the vaccine, but you don’t have proof.
I will pay any ticket as long as I have my dog alive! My state isn’t strict here. They don’t go actively looking for proof. The only time they ever ask for proof is if your dog bites someone or someone else’s dog and my dog is in my control at all times. She even has boarded two planes and they never asked us to show proof of rabies. I had proof but they didnt even bother asking. I’m just glad that I won’t have to deal with this for awhile and I emailed animal control about it just in case they allow me to get exempt. We shall see but who knows. I never want to have see her go through that again :/
Mike – It’s cardinals around here. They fly full force into windows and they will break their necks. I’m not sure why quails do it, but cardinals do it because they see their reflection and they think it is another (rival) bird.
I edited my post because I forgot about the vet thing. Hopefully you saw that part NBO.
And not that I disagree with you at all, I’m just letting you know how it is some places (however unfair it may be).
This is why I will push to get exempt from the vaccine. I know my home town vet will treat without proof. They are so friendly and more compassionate. If she had the reaction there I know my town wouldn’t do it again. I miss my original vet so much after this experience with these guys
I can’t wait to move back home and have Abbie’s old vet back.
We are in MA right now and we just closed on the house that we are buying! It has a few kids around my age, and since I am a true entreprenuer child, (I have over ten businesses CURRENTLY) I am psyched that there are 70 houses within a 3 minute bike ride of our house! YAY!!! Tonight is our last night in the hotel.
Congrats, Colleen! I’m happy for you and your family. Sounds like it’s the new perfect spot for you! I’m curious – what types of businesses do you have?? That’s really impressive!
NBO, that’s horrible! Healing vibes to poor Abbie!
Gave her some more Benadryl per the vets advice because of her rash and she is now 100% back to normal! She is playing with her toy as we speak. She sure has gone through a lot. Seriously thought I was going to watch my dog die today and I am loving seeing her playing right now!
The vet said since she had that bad of a reaction the likelihood of her having another one even worse is highly likely so from now on the will hook her up to iv and provide a Benadryl shot 30 minutes prior to future shots. The state law is she has to have it every three years but my vet says if I talk to animal control she can at least get exempt locally by getting a titer test every 3 years. Its a blood test to see what amount of the vaccine is still in her system. If she meets minimum protocol, she can skip the rabies shot. Just waiting to hear back from animal control and what extra steps I need to take To get the exemption. I couldn’t imagine losing my dog over a vaccine for a disease she has .01% getting lol
Interesting fact, a 5lb chihuahua gets the same dosage as a Great Dane. A 5 pound dogs gets half the amount a HORSE gets. A HORSE! They say small dogs are 10X more likely to have negative effects from the vaccine…hmmm, I wonder why?! Horses get 2mL of the vaccine and dogs get 1mL. Those numbers are NOT right!!
you bought a house and it came with kids?? that cant be legal

Mwahahahahaha!
Huh.. that is odd. Okay, perhaps it isn’t. I don’t know. I have spent the night looking up article’s in my school’s database. For some reason most of the results that come up are not linked to the actual article. They should have access to them. I wonder if features are disabled for those people who are not using a campus computer. Well, the interlibrary loan people are not going to be happy with me and all my requests.
NBO, dogs and horses metabolize things differently. ![]()
Yeah, true but what about a 5 pound dog getting the same amount a 150 pound dog would get? D: Either way, the rabies vaccine almost killed my dog today and the law thinks it’s more beneficial for Abbie to get another rabies shot versus risking the .01% chance of getting infected with rabies. It made her collapse within 20 minutes. I know that her next round of shots are going to be highly stressful for me ![]()
Great news, everyone! Abbie has now been exempt in my county from ever having to take the rabies vaccine again!
Good news, NBO! Glad Abbie won’t have to go through that horrible ordeal again, poor girl. Also, I have to leave the buns overnight this coming Friday and I’m dying! They are going to be alone and I’m soooo worried they will fight or something. We are leaving them for about 24 hours by themselves. We have someone coming over to feed them and check up on them Friday night but I’m always so worried they will fight when I’m not home! LOL. Oyyy.
In an hour, we will be on the way to the vet! It’s time for everyone to get their annual checkups, except for Nora since she was checked recently before her spay. My vet will go nuts – three Tans all in one meeting! Bahahahaha. That poor lady. Plus Simba, but he’s the good one.
Have they showed any aggression towards one another since moving in together? I’m dropping my bunnies off in a few hours at the bun sitters house… Not looking forward to it D:
Not that I’ve noticed at all – they’ve been very good.
But Sunday night I had to sleep out in the living room with them because around 4am we heard banging around (like when the Tans have fought before – it creates quite a ruckus) so I ran out into the living room… but Sidney was actually out. She was stuck between the x-pen and the wall on the outside. I’m confused as to they fought and that’s why she jumped it but I don’t think so because there wasn’t any pulled fur anywhere and I know my Tans… EVERY single time they have ever fought there’s fur EVERYWHERE. The banging around stopped before I got out there… but Sidney was completely still where she was stuck so I actually think the insane banging was from her trying to get loose. Nora freaked out though and started banging against the x-pen as she ran like a maniac around the sides. I had to get Sidney out from the x pen and calm Nora down. It was a mess. So we went out the next day and bought the extra 48″ x pen so now there’s no way for her to jump that. If she does, then idk… LOL! She can have the whole darn house because I give up!
I’m just worried I think because it makes such a racket when they fight. The x pen banging against the wall is SO loud and I worry that if they DID fight then someone will figure out there here or something. I’m totally overhtinking this as no one has fought but still.
Good luck though with dropping your babies off!
I have not been keeping up with the chat. I am going to try to keep up this time, though!! Hope everyone is doing well!!
Last night I had a dream I went to pick up Marley and his new friend but instead Nancy gave me two guinea pigs…I was so sad!! I am so glad it was just a dream…I do miss my Marley boy though!! I wish I had them home now! Been waaaaay too long now!!
I don’t know if I have ever brought this up on the bunny forum but I am stressing out because I need to be studying for my GED test and my sister is supposed to be helping me with math and she is leaving next month for college. It’s a long story as to why I don’t have my high school diploma or GED yet but I feel this year I need to kick into gear and get this done. I have been struggling with a lot of things lately and I just don’t know what to do. The math part of the GED test is really most all I need to study but I will study Science too. I was trying to find a technical school that offered GED help as well as schooling for Vet Tech but no one offers that here. =(
All I want in life is to be successful. I always had these dreams and hopes but it seems I am not making them come true. I am only the one to blame for it but I just sometimes don’t know how to come out of these funks. =/
Give yourself time Amy, it always seems like time goes slow and you’ll never get there then one day you won’t even remember how long it took!
How is Marley getting on? Do you have any other names for Natasha?
Tanlover- haha your tans are never boring! are you renting your place?
Welp, everybun had their annual vet visit today. Except for Nora.
Everyone was healthy as can be. But Simba seems to have VERY bad teeth. The vet said if she aged him by his teeth – she would guess him to be around 8-9. That bad. but looking at his eyes he’s about 4-5ish. His molars seem to be a million different sizes but none of them are causing him any pain or discomfort. So she is hoping now that he is in a secure home, by next year the constant hay supply will help grind and wear them down to an even size. **Fingers crossed for my Simber Bun** He also may be getting some clogged tear ducts. My little lion man.
Sidney needed three of us to hold her down. 4 lbs of pure iron bunny. LOL. And then when we were done…. she waltzed her little legs right up and bit the boyfriend a good one, LOL. Oh my buns..
my pool guy just showed what he pulled from the pool a few houses before mine…

Maybe that’s what contributed to his GI status? Sydney is such a little madam haha!
I have been trying to lap train my bunnies to make health checking easier. Buttons is getting much better at being held.and enjoys being groomed. He’ll sit there for 15 minutes before he gets bored and starts looking around for something to do. Suri on the other hand isn’t having any of it. She tried jumping away from me as I was putting her back in her pen and she full on kicked my right in the face :'( it hurt so much! I had two great big scratches down my face…. I looked like Dracula! She then binkyed away looking rather pleased with herself. Terror. She’ll sit on my lap sometimes and nudge me for attention but I think it’ll be slow progress. I can health check buttons though, apart from his teeth but that’s okay! I’m hoping seeing her brother so calm with me will help her gradually get better with this. I won’t hold my breath though, I know bunnies don’t like being held much!
Mike – eeek! That is so gross! My cousin once ate a scorpion from a box of scorpion vodka (it was supposed to be there) that was also pretty gross
Mike – Aren’t the big ones less potent?
Amy – Don’t be so hard on yourself. I’m sure you will do just fine on the GED. Did you get a book to study for it?
Tanlover – That sounds about right, only it would be me getting bit.
Speaking of getting bitten, I was getting nibbled on today with a raptor beak. Good thing he didn’t really mean it, otherwise there would have been blood.
Hannaroo – I didn’t notice your question before! We don’t rent, my boyfriend owns the condo…. but with the condo association, pets are forbidden. Even like a hamster! LOL. You’re not supposed to have ANYTHING. I think in that case they should just ban children also!
It’s funny though – because one time when we were coming up the elevator… a lady had what we think was a cat in a box. She was peeking inside and was like “do you know what I have in here?!” we were like “no” and she was like “good!”… AND someone below us I know brought home a rabbit or something similiar, maybe a guinea pig? for the summer… because her and her boyfriend/husband were talking about it in the elevator. She seemed to be a teacher bringing home the class pet or something like that.
And I totally agree with handling them to make it easier. We have gotten the Tans so they will sit still (usually) for a very brief period of time. Doing their nails this time around was much easier than before. I have a scar where one of them managed to swing around and get my finger with his little teeth. Tanger actually. He latched right on and wouldnt let go. It hurt soooo bad! Haha! I still think it’s important to get them used to it though. When we first started doing it with Tanger, he would freak out so bad. He wouldn’t eat one time for two hours, not even his favorite Craisins. But he’s slowly started not having a heart attack every time he’s picked up. Which is what I need from them. I don’t want them to think they’re getting killed every time they are handled and I think it’s good for them to get used to it. The Tans will never like it – but when they become so stressed they don’t eat then I feel they really need work. And it’s been going along positively towards them being SLIGHTLY accepting which is all I can ask for!
Amy, as Hannaroo said – don’t let yourself get down. I finished my high school and got my diploma but when I went away to college I basically had a lot of depression and horrible relationships and I just put myself into this downward spiral and hole. Now I’m attempting to start over again and it’s very different but you will eventually get there! Just keep pushing yourself. Even when you get into a funk (we all do) keep pushing yourself out. Head for your goals. And don’t give up (including mentally) until you reach them! It took two years for me to turn my life back to where it needed to be (after 5 years of being all over the place)… but I finally have managed to do it and I’m very proud of yourself. Keep pushing and looking ahead and you WILL get there! Just try and stay positive no matter how depressed or negatively you are feeling at the moment.
Mike – that’s horrifying… lol!
Thanks you guys. It means a lot. I am going to put my positive hat on and push forward! I have to always remember tomorrow is a new day and it will always (hopefully) be brighter! =)
I am sorry to hear about Simba’s teeth! It scares me. I need to take Marley into the vet to check his teeth again just to make sure we’re all good. Unfortunately I don’t have him here yet so I can’t do that. I should just take Rascal and V in to have an exam I suppose. They need a check up anyway.
Mike- That is disturbing! I am so terrified of scorpions. Emperor scorpions are my worst nightmare, although despite how big and ugly they are they are pretty much harmless. Their venom isn’t that potent. They still scare me though! haha White scorpions don’t scare me as much…dunno why…Either way, I am still terrified of them…
So I went to drop the buns off at their sitters and they got a puppy recently. And lets just say I’m a little nervous. The puppy was barking A LOT at the bunnies. She was curious, and skittish around the bunnies and every time one would move, the pup would start barking at the rabbits causing Sally to FREAK out and thump. Harley didn’t seemed phased at all about the loud obnoxious puppy barking at them but I hope either Sally gets accustomed to this yappy dog, or the dog gets used to the bunnies and quits harassing them. We were there for about an hour and the puppy just would not let up! I told them to not allow the puppy to interact with the buns AT ALL. She was already showing signs of aggression towards the rabbits and even with my husband and I (I have NEVER seen such a young puppy so fearful and timid of people and aggressive!) I felt sorry for her. I feel like she didn’t get much social interaction her first 8 weeks of life :/
Not only that but the puppy ATTACKED my dog. Not the playful wrestling either. the hair on her back raised, and her growling and the way she shook Abbie was in an aggressive way. She grabbed Abbie’s neck and shook. Luckily the puppy was only half Abbies size and Abbie quickly put the puppy back in her place and told her that it was unacceptable behavior. *sigh* I’m just nervous now. But luckily, the pup is crated when no one is home so the pup won’t ever have the opportunity to be alone with the rabbits and just harass them all day…
Amy – I wish you luck on your GED! I’m currently working on mine and also have driven myself further into a funk. Bleh. We’ll both get it done, eh?
NBO – That puppy sounds like a terror. I’m wondering what made the pup so fearful. I’m sure your buns will be fine however. At least the buns will have some quiet time during the day.
Yesterday Ox had his teeth filed down. The vet allowed me to stay during the whole procedure as well as when Ox was still asleep. Poor boy’s molars were very sharp but hopefully now that he’s with me and now has constant hay his teeth will stay in good shape. I also had the vet shave out the big mat he had above his tail. He’s now bald on his lower back.
And Ox is definitely a boy. For sure.
I’m very happy that I was able to stay and be there for Ox, especially when he was waking up. When he was awake enough to start stumbling around he came straight towards me for head rubs. I thought that was sweet and comforting for him.
Dang guys, two pages already??
NBO: I’m so sorry about Abbie’s reaction to her shot. I wouldn’t put her through that again, either, weather they exempted her or not. Glad they okayed it though.
That puppy doesn’t sound quite right, in my opinion. An eight week old pup shouldn’t be aggressive, shy maybe if not socialized properly but never aggressive. Do you know where they got it from?
Missgabster: Poor Ox! How nice that you were able to be there for him, I’m sure he was happy to see you when he woke up. ![]()
tanlover: I’m glad you got through the vet visit without any major injuries, sorry your boyfriend wasn’t as lucky.
Poor Simba with his teeth, hopefully they’ll even out with time.
Amys Animals: Try not to stress yourself out too much. You’ll get there! ![]()
I’m happy to report that Lily is doing great on her new (old) food. She has already gained a pound, which is a lot for her, she’s tiny. Even at her heaviest she only weighed 6.5 lbs. Right now she’s getting three meals a day, in week or so we’ll cut her back to two again. She won’t appreciate that, I should probably find some earplugs… ![]()
Tanlover- haha I just wandered, I’m going to start saving for a deposit for my own flat after I played off my holiday. I’ve started looking around and was suprised surprised to how many landlords allow pets! Although I’m not sure where rabbits stand as they are stereotyped as pretty destructive. Do they not smell the hay? I don’t think my bunnies smell at all but I can smell they hay?
It’s making it so much easier, Buttons is making great progress but Suri’ s been pretty grumpy the last few days so I’ve let her be
I even feel pretty confident about clipping his nails!
I think alot of it is just time, they’re getting more comfortable with me an I touch their paws all the time so they get used to it!
Suri gets very stressed when I pick her up so I’m hoping if Buttons gets used to it, she’ll learn not to be so scared.
Mike: That scorpion is nasty! We have ones like that about a quarter of the size that guy over by where we live. Not as bad but just as annoying.
TL: Poor Simba! I hope continues to go well with him.
Amy: I feel you on the scorpion fear! We have tiny scorpions in Florida. Let me tell you if I had known that Florida had scorpions before I moved here, I would have refused.
NBO: I’m sorry about the poor buns! Were you informed that the sitters had gotten a new puppy before you brought the buns? Or did you find out when you got there? I have to agree with Hazel. The aggressiveness just seems off. I hope your babies are okay there with the sitter.
I’m going nuts. I’ve been bedridden sick since Sunday and I’m still not better. I have no clue what I have but when I went to the E.R. Monday they said I had a virus of some sort. But I think they were lying. I’m guessing I have strep or something. So I haven’t been able to see the bunnies all week. I’m going nuts with out my fuzzy bunnies! I feel horrible because they have been stuck in their cages while I’m sick. I know it’s a slim chance of getting them sick if I have something bacterial. I just don’t want to take the chance of getting my little ones sick.
Getting antsy right now. I have to leave in 15 minutes for a doctor’s appointment. I’m hoping they can do what I want them to do, since I can’t get in to see the specialist. If I wasn’t trying to beat my insurance before the “year” is over, then it wouldn’t be such a rush.
Awwww skippers mama I hope you feel much better soon! It sucks when your feel rough! You’ll be sure to see some binkies when they go back out again!
Big Capone visits Hazel in her “spay surgery recovery condo” in my upstairs bathroom (the quietest room in the house). She is recovering nicely and muching on some fresh first cut timothy that we unloaded into my stable yesterday afternoon.

BunnyOwner123 – I posted advice here originally about what I had to do in order to work with a vaccination reaction with a horse I had, but I hadn’t seen the post that said you won’t have to vaccinate your dog again. That’s great that they recoginze your dog’s health over the law and the perfect solution.
My eyes just must have skipped over it when I was reading your terrible story! Felt so bad for your pupper! :-/ Reactions suck and I remember how stressed I was the next few times I had to have my horse done. In our case it was a bad batch and not an allergic reaction because 10 horses got sick and one even died. So that’s why I only vaccinate against diseases that can kill them that they are actively exposed to and have boycotted the company that manufactured my bad batch (although for a little while I couldn’t because they were the only ones who made a particular vaccination that we MUST give in our county).
Well that was easy. A little too easy. Whelp, I will be leaving to go to the hospital for an MRI in about 15 minutes. =\
Holy cow, that took way longer than it should have! The power injector wasn’t working right so she had to stop the MRI halfway through and hand inject the dye. Now I’m finding little itchy bumps in various places. =\
I’m sorry LBJ! That totally sucks. I hope everything went well (they got the information they needed).
Hannaroo thanks. =] I’m expecting a bunch of rabbittude. Skipper can be a massive diva and I know Ian would have taken it personally that we didn’t take him. He hates missing his daily cuddles.
Skipper’s Mama – I hope so too. *sigh* I also have a burn in my belly button. I don’t ever think about my belly button ring being there and the girl ran the metal detector wand over me. So it was in the entire time.
Hey guys
Sorry I haven’t been on in awhile, things have been kind of nutty around here. We got 2 kittens , they are about 8 weeks old and both females from the same liter. We named them Minnie and Daisy ( big disney fans in the house , poppy was originally going to be thumper haha). They are not allowed in the kids room! I do have a question though, if I decide to try bonding the kittens with poppy ( I really have no idea if that is even possible?) should I do it when they are older or now when they are babies? Should I even bother, I know that poppy is more than happy in the kids room, but my plan was that eventually he could have roam of our living room and kitchen too. Now that we have the kittens I don’t even know if that will be possible. Any advice would be highly appreciated since you guys are so awesome!! Thanks in advanced, and Happy Belated 4th of July!!!

Congrats on the kittens!
I think it is okay for the kittens and Poppy to smell each other and know about each other. I would hold off on any real interaction until they are older though. Kittens can be quite rambunctious and you wouldn’t want them to hurt your bun bun. Once the kittens are older, their play drive will have diminished somewhat and you can start evaluating them as possible candidates that would interact appropriately with Poppy. Even then, I would be cautious about leaving them completely unsupervised.
Man my belly button itches… =\
So did everyone have a good Fourth? We didn’t do anything. We aren’t impressed with the fireworks display here anymore and we didn’t feel like driving somewhere. I had to work too so I suppose it wasn’t a huge loss.
LBJ10: Sorry you had to go through an MRI. I hope your belly button feels better soon and you get the results you need.
We didn’t do anything for the Fourth either. Hubby had to work as well. We don’t really have family around here so we usually don’t do much for holidays anyway.
feeandstevie: I second what LBJ10 said. If your kittens happen to be unusually calm you could let them interact a little, but it’s probably best to wait. Our cat took almost 3 years to start to calm down, I hope it won’t take that long with yours. ![]()
Skipper’s Mama: Sending healing vibes for you! Get better soon. Hopefully your buns won’t be too mad at you!
One of the kittens actually is unusually calm, nothing phases the little thing… then their is her sister. I doubt unless I had some sort of elephant tranquilizer that we will probably be able to get her calm enough to be around poppy the sailor bun (the kids wear off on me , can you tell?). Maybe just Minnie and Poppy can be friends, I thought about letting her in the room one morning before we let the Pop-star (think he has enough nicknames? lol) out, I am glad that I asked you guys! I thought it was going to be one of those things were the younger they are the better it would be, but it makes total sense that they might be a little too “kitten” for the Pop-rock ( okay I know my family is weird). Oh even more exciting news, by the end of this month I will be able to afford little Poppers condo! He will be moving on up!!! Also moving from the place in the kids room, I am going to rearrange some things so he can look out the kids window, Do you think he will like that? Its a window in the kids room so it is already child proof ( short cord that is secured high, safety lock, ect.) and I figured he might like to hang out there. Maybe? I dunno lol
@Bonnie Sue — Is that a cedar closet?
LOL I meant that there are lots of kids in the neighborhood. And a few of my businesses are:
Dog Sitting
Small pet sitting
Cat sitting
Odd jobs
Babysitting
Housesitting
And almost anything else.
So I guess that those should be considered services that one business offers.
Sounds like a “handygirl” business. =D
*sigh* I’m worried Wooly may be sick. He had a sneezing fit late last night after we had gone to bed. I checked on him today and he sounds nasally and there is a little bit of discharge around his nose. His eyes are clear though. I am waiting until tomorrow morning (Monday) to call the vet since they are closed today. Hopefully they can get him in on the same day, I have to work on Tuesday. My poor baby. =(
=) Thanks!
Hopefully he gets better.
No, it is not a cedar closet. It’s a treated pine log home. Totally safe.
We have an appointment this afternoon. Of course his nose doesn’t look runny this morning. He is still going though.
Wow, it’s supposed to be warm again today. I’m supposed to do some things outside, but I don’t want to. My husband has some strange ideas for things I should be doing. Oh well.
not many people still have VCRs anymore, except for those dual-decks hat are made for copying old VHS tapes to DVD-R
so i’m going to invent a dual deck that plays beta,,, the tape AND the fish
I just got back from my first day at camp. It is at a farm and we are supposed to learn about taking care of animals….. But we are doing ALMOST the opposite. Sure we fed the donkeys and a pig, but not anything else. In fact, if anything, we learned how to mistreat animals. There were 2 ponies and about 15 kids rode on each. Then I was really excited to go see the rasbbits, but when I saw them, I was shocked. Most of the rabbits were kept together in a big barn, and they didn’t llok like they were fixed. It was far past 80 degrees out and they didn’t do ANYTHING to cool them. They had 7 baby bunnies and a mama in one 1.5×5 foot cage. I am really dissapointed.
Oh my Colleen, I’m sorry. Unfortunately, I’m not horribly surprised.
Poor Wooly. He’s sitting in the carrier waiting to go. I grabbed him early just in case he was going to put up a fuss. I managed to grab him right away, so I just placed him in the carrier to keep him contained until we leave. His appointment is soon though, so he won’t be waiting long.
Alrighty, we’re back. Quick, I know. Luckily my vet is only 10 minutes away and they are always quick with service.
So, Wooly has an URI. His lungs sounded good though. The vet thinks we caught it early. I didn’t have a lot of money, so I opted to just take home some Baytril and see how he does. If there isn’t improvement in 10 days, I’m supposed to call and we can run more tests. Another surprise, we found a couple of scabs on the back of Wooly’s neck and the hair was short there. Apparently Leopold has been pulling fur during his hump fest session. *sigh*
This part is really cute though. I asked them to cut his nails since he’s been a bit feisty lately and my husband is a terrible holder. She carried him off into another room and I immediately hear this chorused “awwwwww” coming from the hallway. Needless to say, everyone there thinks he’s adorable. =D
Hmm, I washed my hands after I gave Wooly his first dose and they still smell like marshmallow. =\
awww, glad to know your baby is on the mend LB! That is awful colleen! Hopefully you learn more your second day, maybe you should teach them a thing or two! haha
feeandstevie: Poppy might enjoy the window, wouldn’t hurt to try at least.
Our cat doesn’t get windows, she treats them pretty much like pictures on the wall, she doesn’t understand that there’s a world beyond the glass. Unless we’re out there looking in, then she “sees”. ![]()
LBJ10: I’m glad you caught Wooly’s URI so early, I hope the Baytril clears it up quickly. Sending healing vibes for poor Wooly!
Colleen: I’m sorry you had a bad experience at that place. We have a sort of zoo here, they have bunnies too, in tiny cages. I guess I should be thankful that they aren’t allowed to breed at least. ![]()
It’s been two days now without lunch for Lily. She doesn’t like it. Since she understood that we won’t feed her as much, she started turning her attention to the dog food bag. I’ve caught her several times chewing on it. It’s getting pretty hard to pry her off of it, too. Last night we resorted to putting it in the empty rabbit enclosure just to keep it safe from her. Luckily the old bag will be done in a couple of days and then we’ll have room in the closet for the new one.
awww how sad about the bunnies at the sort of zoo! You would think if they are going to have them be on display that they would at least put them in proper homes!
Yesterday three of the leaders were chasing the bunnies to catch them. Most of them hid, but not one. I was rooting for the bunny. But the adults won. They cornered and caught it. Then 35 kids took turn holding it. Poor thing.
Colleen – Are you allowed to cancel and say you want your money back? I wouldn’t want to stay the entire duration.
So I now know that if Leopold ever needs to take medicine, I will have no problem. The little turd was pushing Wooly and my hand trying to get a “bite” for himself. I let him have a taste, hoping he wouldn’t like it. Well that just made him even more determined. *sigh*
LBJ10 – Lol, after Suri’ s spay I had to give her metacam. She wouldn’t eat or drink but LOVED the taste! She’d hop over and nudge me if she knew I had it! Buttons wouldn’t have any of it though! Vibes for your bun.
Colleenbunny – unfortunately this is common because of rabbits reputation of ‘cuddly child pet’. It’s often from ignorance rather than outright cruelty and it can be upsetting. Hopefully they’ll someday learn that they’re doing the wrong thing.
Yeah I would ask for a refund for sure. I am often baffled at peoples ignorance, what makes a bunny or any other animal any more cuddly than say a pit bull? Nothing, ya know why, because they are animals! They can be trained of course but just like humans ever animal whatever the species has its own personality, its a living, breathing thing. Not some play thing that you have at your disposal! That is seriously adorable LBJ, how is wooly doing?

He seems okay. Not much of a change yet, but it has only been a couple of days. He had a huge sneezing fit earlier today. I went in there and he was still sneezing by the time I got there. He was rubbing his nose with his paws. I guess maybe some stuff was coming loose? Poor thing. He is running around like he usually does though, so it must not be bothering him that much.
aww tell him bless you from me and poppy! Good to know he is at least in good spirits! Poor guy, I know I sure get grumpy when I have a UTI! Today Poppy kept me company while I cleaned the kids closet which was a much bigger task than I had originally anticipated… at one point I was sure I was going to find Jimmy Hoffa in there or something. Anyway after we were done I was petting him and he tooth purred for me! I was like awwww he LIKES ME, he really likes me!!! haha.

How sweet.
He was probably telling you how good of a job you did with the closet, thanks to his supervision, of course. ![]()
aww right! Then today I took a nap in my daughters bed ( I often do this… odd I know haha) and he jumped on the bed and gave me kisses I assume? He was licking my hands and face. It was super sweet
I figure he was either telling me he loves me, or that I need a shower! lol

I don’t think so. Today was the last day. All the parents came over and OF COURSE they tryed to make it look like we actually did things that are related to animals.
HAHA as if. I was actually thinking of doing horse back riding lessons there. But then I saw howe they treat their rabbits. Then we went on a bike ride and I got to meet some of the riders. They were SOOO snotty…
I have always introduced right from baby-hood and would recommend it. If done right, it is no more dangerous than bonding two rabbits.
I got Gypsy at 9 weeks old last summer. The first thing I did was start introducing her to Merlin. I would let them sniff each other through the cage bars. If she put her paw in the cage, Mer would just sniff it or move out of reach. If you are lucky, Poppy will bite and they will never put their paws in again (that’s how my parakeet trained Gypsy). They learn pretty quick that bunnies are friends not food. At 8 weeks old they are also closer in size to your bun so your bun will be less afraid. I would also sit with one of them on my lap and let them interact that way. That way you can block any bats the kitten may try to do. Usually it is just an exploratory poke with no claws anyways. Merlin’s cage was right in the living room about 3 inches off the ground so Gypsy saw him all the time and sniffed when she wanted. It didn’t take long for her to start ignoring the cage other than to run over and say good morning. She even started napping on top of his cage. When I was feeding him, I would let Gypsy poke her head into the cage as well. About two weeks later, I let them run around the living room together. I blocked the doorways and sat right there in case anything happened, but Gypsy wouldn’t go near him and just stegasaurused the whole time following at a distance. Within a week of that though, they were cuddling together. It is also important to know that Merlin was terrified of cats and dogs when I got him, so I had a disadvantage with bonding him to the cats and dogs. yes he got used to the ones I had when I got him, but he was weary of new ones. When Gypsy was still in the crazy kitten stage and learning bounderies, I would stay close by and spray her or firmly say “no” when she started getting too rambunctious, but as time passes you have to do that less and less. Over the last 6 months though (Gypsy is a year old), I didn’t even feel the need to be in the same room as the two of them during free roam time. Gypsy grew up as seeing bunnies as her siblings that were just funny looking cats.
I also have an adult rescue cat. I have had her for about 4 years now and I would never feel comfortable leaving her and the bunnies roaming alone. Merlin was already in the picture when she moved in and she became used to him, but every now and again she would go up, sniff him, and raise her paw to swat. She goes up to my 5 month old bun, Bromley, sniffs him, does the scared jaw dropped cat look and then swats him all the time. Brom doesn’t care though, she’s done this to him his whole life. Plus my dog usually jumps in and pushes her away if she is getting mean to the bunnies. I don’t think she will ever be bonded with the rabbits because she was an adult when I got her. She tolerates them most of the time though.
LBJ that is too funny that Leopold wanted the medicine! My buns are such stinkers and can’t stand the stuff. They get sooooo angry. I hope Wooly gets better. (((Healling Vibes))) A URI is not fun.
I’m excited(ish)–mostly nervous though–I finally got a job. It’s nothing grand but it is something to help pay the bills and help pay off student loans/expenses for the next couple of semesters until I finish my B.A. =] I’m mainly just happy that I’ll be able to buy the buns new toys. I know it’s super sad but I’ve been dying to get the buns new toys and blankets. I can’t wait for my first pay check. Pay off my car payment for the month and buy bunny toys! =]
Colleen – Well that sucks. I guess you will know not to go there next time anyway. =\
feeandstevie – That is super sweet! My buns don’t groom me. If anything Leopold demands I “groom” him. Wooly will sometimes groom back when I am brushing him. I think it’s because I hit a sweet spot on his rear though.
Today was quite uneventful. Wooly seems alright still. Just one little sneeze so far. Oh and in case anyone is interested, my MRI didn’t show anything. Well, it didn’t show anything I didn’t already know about. So still no answers for me. =\
Finished my first week of my new job! I love it although my brain is officially fried from all the new information I have had to take it. Who knew filing and processing claims could be so mind boogling?! So much information and so many different systems and processes but I think I’m doing well at catching on! I also am really enjoying a lot of the people I’m working with – so that is probably making it easier also!
The buns did fine by themselves while we were gone for 24 hours (of course someone came over to give them dinner – I gave them breakfast before we left home early on Friday morning). I was so worried for nothing again!
I’m pretty sure I live with a bunch of heathens though. Last night I was late getting dinner to the buns as I was exhausted from working all day. Simba wouldn’t stop thumping so I went in to give them their dinner. Opened the x pen up and stepped in. What do you know, they all come running at me and I almost stepped on Sidney. So I had to kind of try and shuffle my feet around so I wouldn’t step on her which resulted in me falling flat on my face. The ending result was me with a bite mark, a few scratches, and someone ripped the measuring cup with food right out of my hand! Total lunatics. I swear. Lesson learned. Momma will have dinner on time every night from now on! ![]()
tanlover – They sound like a bunch of horrible kids! LOL Reminds me of when I was in elementary school. We were playing flag football in PE. Someone threw the ball and hit me in the face. I was laying on the ground crying with blood coming out of my nose. Not one kid was concerned about me at all. In fact, all I could feel was them all coming over and pulling the flags from my belt. =\
(in that version you wanted to collect as many flags from other people as you could)
That’s terrible, LBJ! But definitely sounds like my bunch. They’re always nipping each other in the butt when the other won’t move or is doing something they don’t like – I need to teach them all some manners!
Thank you for your advice Valkyrie. I think in a week when the kittens are for sure litter box trained ( I was told they were, SURPRISE! they totally weren’t haha) I will maybe try with minnie first since she is the tamer of the two. See how poppy reacts. Wow TanLover, glad you are okay!!! Luckily my kids don’t try to take me to the ground when dinner is late.. they just whine me into submission haha
TL – claims is hard! My mum works in administration and I did a couple of weeks work experience while I was looking for an apprenticeship! Glad your settling in though!
Haha you got ransacked by the tans! They’re not the most forgiving! Suri chews and rattles the bars if I’m late for dinner time and then I get thumped at when I put it down! The cheek! Don’t call us bunny slaves for nuffin!
Well I had an interesting day….
About a month ago, one of my cousins unexpectedly passed away at 39. She was a dog rescuer and had two dogs with her when she passed, whom we have been trying to find homes for. Unknown to us, but one of her dogs was put into the SPCA, which my family was against completely! My husband and I can’t take him because he has a high prey drive, but my parents decided to get him. A year ago they got two dogs from my cousin so the dogs knew each other. It took a week, but we were finally able to spring him today! They were all so excited to be reunited with each other and he hit it off with my Chancey boy. He is a rescue dog, so he does have some issues which we need to work on…the main one being that he likes to mount dogs and people. So every now and then, we had to intercept that. I spent most of the day at my parents house getting to know the new dog and playing with the whole pack.
After spending a few hours taking pictures of the goof balls, I went home. I opened Brom’s cage to let him out and Gypsy climbed in as usual. Suddenly Bromley mounts Gypsy and just starts going to town! I quickly intercept because come on, I don’t want cabbits! But I could not believe this new behavior. None of my rabbits have ever done that, but I guess his bunny puberty hormones are raging. It was also weird that this happened the same day that he brought Drama home. I am counting the days until he turns 6 months (August 6th) so I can neuter him!
tanlover: Wow, sounds like you were trying to feed a pack of wolves! It seems Lily has to give her title of most mischievous pet back to the Tans (for now). ![]()
Valkyrie: That’s so funny! Poor Gypsy. I guess she’ll think twice now before getting into his cage.
LBJ10: I’m sorry that happened to you in school. Kids can be cruel. That’s why we don’t want any! ![]()
It definitely can be, Hannaroo! It’s very annoying when you are talking to whoever filed the claim – you ask them questions and then they lie about them. It’s like they don’t realize we actually investigate the claims. Like Hellloooo? If you tell me you have NEVER filed a claim before, two clicks and I can tell you have filed about 5 of them… like why lie? It’s not benefiting them in the least and just making more work for us!
Hahahahhaa, Hazel. I love this title that keeps flip-flopping back and forth between our abnormally insane animals.
I feel like I’m going to dieeeee. I’ve been soo tired this week from working the new job. I love it and I’m sure I’ll settle in but in September I’m going to be going to school full-time also! I’m doing all online classes so I don’t have to be physically present for the classes so that’s nice but I’m sure I’m going to be on here alot pushing for motivation I can’t find in myself! Working full-time and school full-time. I know lots of people who have done it but I’m scared to try it myself!
It sounds like alot but you’ll be amazed how quickly you’ll adapt to your time schedule. Just make sure you don’t get too stressed, nothing is worth that! You’re got alot of motivation!
People lie all the time. We have to skin test for colours for health and safety because reactions to hair colour can be fatal and people are willing to lie about skin tests over the phone but we know as soon as we can’t find a record of skin tests! They also say things like ‘I’ve never had my hair coloured!’ And they have 3in if regrowth?! Haha!
is it nice to meet loads of new people? That’s my favourite bit of a new job!
I feel kind of rude just jumping in, but I just wanted to share two things: 1. It’s nice reading this chat and getting a feel for everyone and 2. I’m nervous because jack is getting neutered tomorrow. Crossing my fingers!
Tanlover – Sounds like you found yourself a nice job. =) What are you going to school for again? Some things are doable full-time along with a full-time job and some things are not. Like my husband has been trying to do architecture for quite some time and there is no way he could work full-time. In fact, if he were to take full-time classes, he would have a hard time working at all. So it really depends. Sounds like whatever you are enrolled in is designed for working people though.
Hazel – It’s okay. I was used to it I suppose. I was picked on a lot by the other kids.
Julezypie – Why do you think it’s rude? You can hop in on the conversation any time. =) I’m sure Jack will be just fine too.
Lol, thanks lbj! I have his bag with food and everything the vet asked for all ready to go. Nervous because we have s lot going on right now lol and I just want him to be okay sans his manhood lol :X
Julezypie don’t feel bad about jumping in! We love talking to new people. =] (((Vibes for Jack))) He should do great in his neuter tomorrow.
TL don’t stress over school and work. I promise you’ll be fine. =] It takes a little while to get into the groove of doing school and work. However, it is easier to balance everything when you have online classes. Do you know what classes you’re slatted to take next semester?
Hannaroo where do you work that you have to do skin tests? I’ve never heard of hair coloring being fatal to anyone. (Sorry you may have mentioned it but I missed it.)
I’m so happy that I’m not sick anymore. Ian has been jumping up again and snuggling with me. I really missed having snuggle time with him. =p
so after Egypt’s president Mohammed Mursi was ousted last week,, the new interim prime minister has already assembled most of his new cabinet.
that tells you right there that he didnt get it from Ikea
skippersmama – I’m a hairdresser
it’s pretty rare but it does happen so we have to apply a little to the skin a few days before the ire first appointment
normal reactions reactions will itch or maybe blister but you can imagine that would be pretty uncomfortable all over your screen scalp!
Hooray I just got off the phone with the closest small animal vet and booked Bromley’s neutering for Thursday! He won’t be 6 months old until August 6, but due to his inappropriate interest in Gypsy they will do it a little sooner. I need more time to research everything that can go horribly wrong and start worrying! XD He will be my first rabbit to get spayed or neutered so I am nervous!
Jack came home, the vet said it went well. He’s back to his normal self, eating, toileting (ugh, on me…..) and inquisitive again. I think he’s upset with me because he keeps flipping his feet out anytime he passes me.. Ugh. Lol
Thanks for the vibes and I’m sure Bromley will do well, too!
yay for jack being on the mend! Good luck with Bromley too!
I’ve been noticing Dexter coming out his shell more since bonding the trio. He’s been actually letting me pet him now and runs up to me when I approach their pen. I love it! I’ve noticed improvements in all of them. Dexter and Penny being more affectionate with us and Monty has actually tidied up! Monty is really loving having bunny folks to hang out with and he and Penny who were not totally “in love” with each other when initially bonded are snuggling more and more.
It was so incredibly worth it. I feel like all three are much happier.
TL – My husband goes to school, works, and is a volunteer firefighter. There are definitely weeks where he gets no time off and I barely see him. It was really hard at first but now he loves all of it. He’s passionate about what he’s going to school for and volunteering and he likes his job.
There was definitely an adjustment period though! I have to remind him to take “Sanity Time” every once in a while. I’m not caught up on everything, are you still planning on being a nurse?
MD – that’s great news! I really do believe that having other bunnies around helps them feel secure and much more confident in themselves! When you you start bonding with the other two?
Julezypie – ((vibes)) glad it’s all gone well. It took 3 days to see a massive improvement on Buttons when he was neutered. He stopped grunting and pooping everywhere. Glad it all went well I’m sure it’ll be very straightforward
I’m hoping once Jack and Fiona are bonded, they’ll have the same relationship lol, MD.
Thanks, Hanna! I was a little concerned at first until he ate his salad with reckless abandon like four hours after coming home.
Haha neutering is very straightforward. Buttons was so full of energy I had to reduce his space because he was moving around too much which made his parts swell a bit LOL crazy thing.
So handling the bunnies is going well. We had our first nail trim session today and Suri was a star! Got them all nice and short and she loved all the attention she got. This is amazing progress as the first time I picked her up she freaked and wimpered
buttons was very good although he bit my sister through a towel but we got most of his done and managed to tidy up under his tum too. We’ll finish the rest tomorrow but he enjoys lap time as long as it’s not too long.
Unfortunately me and my boyfriend of 3 1/12 years finished this week and I’ve been pretty upset so all the positivity of the grooming has cheered me up quite a bit!

Yeah. Although I wouldn’t complain if they toned it down to “just” insane.
I’m sure you’ll do fine with school and work, don’t worry. ![]()
Just ordered some NIC grids from Bed Bath & Beyond. We got a giftcard last Christmas, so no harm done. Gotta get prepared for that possible future bunny…
We’ll order some Revolution too, so we can dose him right away, just in case.
Jumping in here
LOL @ Longhairmike
That’s just silly!
Hmm, my knee hurts. Not sure what I did. Wasn’t terribly pleasant walking around today, but it was WAY too hot to wrap my knee in anything. This sucks. I had terrible hot flashes when I woke up this morning. Not sure what that is all about either. Well, I do, but I don’t know why it is doing it now. Okay, I will stop complaining now. =\
I over heard some talking yesterday. Turns out there was a big meeting, complete with tour, for city officials regarding the corridor my thesis is focused on. Apparently the general opinion is that it is a good thing, but they are still questioning who is in charge of taking care of it. Should it be a city thing, even though it isn’t inside city limits? Or a state thing, given that part of it connects to a state recreation area? Odd, I would have thought they would have worked all that out already considering there is a master plan in place.
Mike – You always have awesome animal pics. Although I did find the most awesome caterpillar yesterday.
getting ready to take Rini & Usako to TTAS for bunnysitting before we leave for the comic-con.
we’ll be bunny-free for 3 whole days.
when we pick them up sunday afternoon,, we’ll also be bringing home the new fosters for the next 2 months:
Roxie is (was) a small 5 year-old satin, but right now she’s just getting really fat and overproducing cecals. she needs to go on our daily living room bunbunrun program that helped clover drop a good 2-3lbs
Sparky (white) and Ringo are an 11 & 5 year-old pair of bonded boys.
its been several months since we had patches & raven and all the bonded binky madness that comes with them
@Longhairmike – I love the Bunstruction one!
I have a job interview next week and I’m nervous/excited. It’s been almost a year since I had a job outside the house stuff and while I adore being able to spend so much time with the furkids and my husband I really do miss having “somewhere to go” everyday.
And of course having more money around is always nice. It’s similar to the type of work I’ve done before but a bit higher in the responsibility department.
“The Kids” as we’ve taken to calling Helo and Inara go in for their spay/neuter this next week and then 30 or so days after that we’ll start bonding. They’re sooo much bigger than the last photo I posted on here. I’ll have to get some updated ones up. I think they might end up being slightly bigger than Monty.
Longhairmike I love the photos! I showed them to the bf and his favorite is the Bunstruction. ![]()
Knee still hurts. *sigh*
Aww Mike, that poor bunny. =( Why doesn’t someone from the shelter just take him home and let him live out the rest of his life being loved? He’s so cute in his pictures.
MD – Good luck with your interview. Too bad it is next week. If I have an upcoming interview, I drive myself nuts leading up to it. =\
Skipper’s Mama – What kind of hospital is it? Do they offer financial assistance? The Catholic hospital where I live receives grants so you can apply for assistance with your bill (you show proof of income). The other hospital here is mean though, so I suppose it depends.
LBJ I don’t think they offer assistance. I’m going to have to look into it. If not I’m stuck putting it on a credit card. There’s no way I would ask my parents for help to pay for it. Do you know what may be causing the knee pain? Did you injure your knee some time in the past?
Longhairmike you’re going to Comic-Con? You’re super lucky. I’ve always wanted to go. I hope you have a good time!
Skipper’s Mama, it doesn’t hurt to ask. Sometimes they don’t advertise the fact that they can do that. It really depends on the hospital though. Like I said, the other one where I live is mean and they will sick the bill collectors after you.
No, no injury. I just woke up that morning and my knee felt funny. It hurts both front and back, but it is a deep aching. It’s weird. Then it feels weak when I try to put all my weight on it (like when stepping over the baby-er-bunny gate).
Hmmm…I wonder if it some sort of arthritis in the knee? I hope it feels better. I know how an uppity knee can be a bummer.
Arthritis? I would think I’m a little young for that. Then again, seems like everything with my body is screwed up. The pain is worse today, I can’t use that knee to go up the stairs. =\
Hey everyone! So I survived my wedding day on the 13th and had SO MUCH FUN! I can’t believe I stressed so much about it lol the venue was beautiful! I’m still on my cruise but we are on our way back home thank god. I’m all cruised out lol
We went kayaking and snorkeling in Key West, Florida. While kayaking we saw lots of jelly fish and 4 hammerheads! It was awesome. Snorkeling we saw plenty of fish and huge lobsters.
Then we went to Freeport Bahamas and went snorkeling on this reef and I was AMAZED! It was the prettiest thing I have ever experienced. The fish were so colorful and not shy at all! You can easily see 30 feet down because the water was crystal clear. I saw so many fish and it was just amazing. It was a definite highlight of my trip.
We then set sail to Nassau Bahamas which is the capital of the Bahamian islands. My husband and I did what I have always wanted to do my entire life since I was a little girl, which is swimming with dolphins! I got to hug, kiss, and dance with a dolphin. Then I got on a boogie board and the dolphin did a foot push across the pool. I was going so fast it was amazing! The pool for the dolphins are in a beach like set up. As in there was a beach in the pool. Sand and everything it was HUGE. after the foot push we got some snorkeling gear and an underwater scooter so we can swim down and under the water along side the dolphins and interact with them. It was an amazing experience.
After that we went to the white sand beach and the water was even prettier than Freeport! I was mesmerized the entire time swimming in the beautiful waters! I was saddened to have to leave and board the ship. We are ow on our way back to Texas. I’m ready to step foot on land again and I can’t wait to see my dog, Abbie! I missed her so much!!

Hazel I love those NIC grids from Bed, Bath, & Beyond. They are the best. They have more structural integrity to me compared to the other wire grids I’ve used.
I’m glad to hear that! Like I said, we had a gift card, so I guess I got lucky that way.
Although we’re only using them to bunny proof, we already have a cage.
I got the grids yesterday, I was surprised at how fast they got here! A couple of hours later, a very suitable little bun appeared on petfinder…
I inquired about him, they told me they saved him from becoming snakefood at a pet store.
Poor thing. We’ll see what happens.
Skipper’s Mama: I’m sorry they stuck you with that big bill. Maybe you can get some help like LBJ said.
LBJ: I hope your knee gets better soon! ![]()
I just talked to them on the phone. We’ll go look at him on tuesday! ![]()
NBO – Wow! Sounds like you had an awesome time!
Hazel – Good luck with the bunny quest!
I just traumatized my dog. Poor thing. I shaved her body, sort of. It isn’t perfect since she’s so lumpy and bumpy and she wouldn’t hold still. The clippers are not working very well. I had to make a few swipes and then put lube on the blade. Ugh. Not sure how I’m going to get her legs and stuff. =\
I forgot to mention the bad things that happened lol for one the top two layers of my cake fell down lol and sadly, no one was able to take a picture before it went tumbling lol but that’s ok, it’s only cake. Then i forgot to put my veil on for the ceremony. But i put it on for pictures afterwards :p. then my mom was crying because i didnt make enough time for her before the ceremony for pictures. I was so tossed around everywhere i was going non stop so it was incredibly hard to do anything. She still got pics together after the ceremony. I was hurt when she left my wedding 2.5 hours early. I feel parents shouldnt leave their own childrens wedding until the end. I was embarrassed when people started asking where she ran off to. Such a minor detail in the awe of the moment that I was marrying my best friend
Then on the cruise one of the stewards stole my iPhone from my room on ship
security is still working on the investigation but from the sounds of it I’m just out of luck. So I will be having to purchase a new phone. Sucks my upgrade isn’t available for another 1.5 years too. And my credit card was with my phone so that was a double whammy.
But all in all the story still stands that I had a magical wedding and honeymoon and had the best 2 weeks of my life with the love of my life that these speed bumps seem like nothing! I’m such a happy camper right now ![]()
Oh dear! Well no wedding is complete without a few mishaps. You heard about my wedding. LOL I didn’t have anything stolen during the honeymoon though. That sucks. =\
LBJ10: Thanks! He’s a cutie and Hubby doesn’t hate him!
We’re having trouble coming up with a name though. Maybe it will come to us when we go to visit him.
Revolution is harder to come by than I realized! I’ll call our cat vet tomorrow and ask if they could give us a free sample. We only need one dose, just as a precaution.
NBO: Sorry you had a few hiccups during your wedding/honeymoon. I’m glad you still had a good time, though.
Did you pick the buns up yet? Let us know how it went with that crazy puppy.
Hazel, I’m not back home yet but I will be picking them up Tuesday night
I haven’t gotten any updates or pictures from them so I’m anxious to see my babies again!!
NBO I’m sorry about the issues that popped up during the wedding. I’m glad that you had fun overall. =] I’ll bet you’ll be happy when you see your buns and Abbie. =]
LBJ poor puppy. Why did you have to shave her? Is it a monthly thing that you do to help keep off the heat?
Hazel I agree with how hard it can be to get Revolution. I have the “mother-in-law” pick it up for me from her vet since she has cats. I understand why it’s by prescription basis. However, it would be nice for them to sell it through regular pet stores. What does the new bun look like? I’m sorry if you posted a picture I think I missed it. And I understand how hard it is to name animals! When I got Haru (my cat) it took about a month to figure out her name and after trying a dozen different ones.
Yes, Hazel! I want to see a pic of this bun also! I’m so excited for you – I hope it all works out for you this time. We had a bunny come through our rescue who was used as snake food for a guy who did snake shows. He was rescued by someone and brought to the rescue. It’s just so horrible. He was very skittish at first but a TOTAL love bug when you really spent time with him. Sometimes it can be so hard because you wish there was an easier way to tell them they will be okay forever now. They have found a real home. But nothing is better than watching them blossom the longer they begin to trust people again.
I’m so happy you had such a great time at your wedding, NBO! I knew you’d have a great time once you got there. Even despite the cake. And your stolen things. It seems like it was all perfect in it’s own special way. Too perfect to be ruined by other events, which is GREAT! And says a lot about you and how you seemed to handle that stress and being happy anyway! I know you were having so much trouble with it – but it seems you worried for nothing! I would love to see a few pics of your wonderful day if you don’t mind sharing! My brothers wedding went great and it was so exciting to see him and his fiance getting married. I loved every minute of it and I’m so happy for him. She had a gorgeous dress… which is why I asked to see a photo of yours! I LOVE seeing the wedding dresses everyone decides on!
I’m so exhausted from working! Boy, oh boy! I never thought sitting in a chair all day could be this exhausting but it really is when you have to use your brain! LOL. Quiznos didn’t require a lot of that. But I’m very much enjoying it. Being in a professional setting is pushing me to do more out of my life and the company I’m working for is HUGE. It’s the #1 employer here so I believe it will be a WONDERFUL place to build a career. I’m excited to start classes in the beginning of September but really dreading all the work especially working full-time! I will have to push myself.
Hazel – Yes, I would like to see what this mystery bun looks like too.
NBO – Oh yes, pics pics!
Skipper’s Mama – She has “fuzzy” fur that you can’t really brush easily. It is just easier to shave her. Plus she pees on her legs sometimes so it’s better if there isn’t fur on them. We do it a few times a year, just when her fur has started to grow out a bit. It has become difficult in recent years though because she is old. There are bumps everywhere and you have to be careful not to shave them off (done that!) and her fatty tumor doesn’t make it easy either. I feel bad because she doesn’t want to hold still and I find myself constantly repositioning her.
So our local humane society opened a new adoption facility. It’s supposed to be more home-like. We went there today for the first time just to see what they did. I can’t say I was all that impressed. Most of the cats were still in small cages with plexi glass on the front. They did have a few rooms for groups of cats to be housed together though. The dogs had both room “suites” and traditional runs. It was still loud in there too with all the barking. =\
They had one bunny there. It was a girl, BEW Nethie. Very cute. She was standing up on her hind legs trying to check us out. Poor thing was in a tiny pet store cage though with a plastic bottom. They had litter covering the entire floor of the cage.
Shelters are often pressed for space but you’d think that they’d at least set an example by not putting a bunny in a pet store cage :/
NBO congratulations on getting married and having such a great day! The honeymoon seems amazing!
After working at a shelter – I’m finally understanding why they have to do these things. Pet store cages aren’t good BUT typically when they don’t have enough money for cages, they resort to making the cages with the wire bottoms because they’re so cheap and easy to keep. My shelter does what they can and this means doing the cheapest options available. They put down towels and cardboard around so they can lay on it but there are still lots of wire type floor places for them to step on. At no point when you go to a shelter do you really see optional living spaces for a rabbit – no matter the cage it will be small. I would rather them have the better flooring than the wire because they’ll be in a small cage no matter what typically.
She didn’t NEED to be in that tiny cage. It didn’t have a wire bottom, but it was tiny. Right next to where she was, they had a cat enclosure with a cat tree thing in the middle. They had 2 kittens in there. If they had room to make enclosures for cats like that, then why not do a little better for a bunny? It’s not like they get a lot of bunnies. The most I have seen them have at one time was 4 or 5.
Here he is:
How could anyone say no to this face?
He’s 8 weeks old.
Hazel – awwwww he is an absolute darling! I just want to give him a cuddle eeeee!
Lbj10 – tanlover is right, it often comes down to budget and shelters often run on volunteers and spars donations. It’s not ideal but its only temporary until the bunny is rehomed. It’s sad but they just do what they can to take animals in and prevent unnessisary euthanisation.
Because they don’t is probably the reason – they don’t see the point in spending money on animals they don’t consistently see a lot of. My shelter can sometimes have an upwards of 50-70 and if it weren’t for the rabbit volunteers offering suggestions and helping to make the rabbit quarters living better it would never happen. Most people at shelters I’ve come to realize don’t know a whole lot about rabbits themselves. A major portion of the staff members at ours have no clue anything about rabbits. But when people come in with donations for the bunnies (big rabbit cages and whatnot) they use them and are happy to have them.
When I first started volunteering, a lot of the things I saw really made me angry. I wrote an email to the lady in charge and she set up a meeting with me and discussed ALL my concerns. She helped and welcomed ideas on how to fix/overcome any problems I saw. Maybe you could do something similar? Our shelter has short staff and not many (if anyone) really knows much about rabbits but because they are short staffed no one has the time to really learn how to care for and understand them. When I went in there and voiced my concerns, I learned it wasn’t because of lack of compassion – it was simply a lack of resources and time. Our rabbit community does A LOT of volunteer here work because we all understand typically in shelters rabbits are on the bottom of the list (unfortunately and sadly – but typically true). If you talk to someone in the shelter who has the ability to make decisions regarding care and habitats, I bet you could go far in helping them understand or make solutions.
OH. MY. GOD, HAZEL. He is GORGEOUS! <3 I'm in love with him. I so hope he becomes yours. He's absolutely gorgeous. I would love to see pictures of him all over BinkyBunny!
Squee!!! OMG Hazel, you HAVE to get that adorable boy!
I was going to ask about the bunny, but there was a long line of people standing at the front counter. A bunch of people wanted to take a dog out to interact with and my husband had already lost interest and was walking out the door. I don’t see why that little bun couldn’t have been put in a kitty enclosure. I mean, it isn’t like they were full. Plus I think a bunny would have liked it in one of those.
At our shelter – animals can’t be put in each others cages sort to speak. Cats aren’t allowed in dog cages and vice versa (even though a dog area may be empty and MUCH larger for a cat to roam in). It may be just shelter policy for that not to happen. They have pet store cages that the ferrets can be put into when brought in, guinea pigs, ect. That may be a part of it, LBJ. Risk of diseases between species, I would assume that to be the reason but I’m not absolutely positive. At our shelter, the animals are quarantined away from each other. Was that shelter similar or no?
I absolutely understand your feelings though. It was really hard for me to accept shelter life for animals when I began volunteering. I came home and cried the first day I volunteered because it was just so heartbreaking. It can be very hard to work with them because you want them to have the lives that our furbabies have and until they find a home, that’s just not possible in the shelter. It’s very frustrating and heartbreaking sometimes. Especially when a shelter isn’t used to taking certain animals though – it’s a miracle that animal is saved. Without shelters many more animals would be euthanized or left on the streets to die a horrible death. So in some ways you have to compromise (I know I did) with yourself and shelter-life. If you choose to take in an animal as a family member, you are deciding to give them the best life possible in my mind. And it’s hard to accept that shelters take in these lives simply until they can find a family and not hold them to the same standard or even half that standard. They give them whats absolutely necessary for them to survive and keep healthy. And that’s the extent because they have to extend their resources so far. Sigh. It’s very depressing to think about. But so many of these animals would be dead. And I would much rather that rabbit be kept in a tiny cage until he can find a home then on the street where he will most likely die a horrible death.
Oy. Tomorrow is Monday and the work week begins again… Sighhhhhh.
I’m reading this great book called “The Pact” by Jodi Picoult. It’s a very, very sad book but very good. I can’t put it down even though I should so I can get some cleaning done. LOL.
The cats and the dogs are separate. The cats are in a sound-proof area, I suppose so they aren’t bothered by barking dogs. The rabbit was in the same section as the cats. It was in a cage behind the plexi. Right next door was the cat enclosure with the two kittens. I guess I don’t see why that enclosure couldn’t be dedicated to holding a bunny. I think the cats could do with one less enclosure. I do understand that shelters don’t have the resources. Considering that a crap ton of money was donated to build this facility, you would have thought that they would have dedicated at least a small area to small animals. Oh well.
It depends what is brought into the shelter. Cats and dogs are much more popular than rabbits so they probably need a lot more space for them as they are more likely to be given up for adoption.
I think tanlover has some excellent points an I strongly agree that you should talk to a manager about you views but keep calm and give advice where needed
I wish I could just take home all the rabbits but unfortunatly I don’t have the money or space…. Probably a good thing otherwise I’d be the mad bun woman ![]()
Thanks, everybody! I think he’s pretty cute, too.
If nothing goes wrong tomorrow, we’ll be good to go. Then we would pick him up sometime this week, or monday at the latest. They were nice enough to agree to keep him there while we get everything ready for him.
Here’s the first picture I got of him:

OMG Hazel! He is so freaking adorable! I don’t know how you could contain your excitement! =D
I looked at the website. No email or anything is listed. I guess if I want to talk to someone, I will need to go there.
Hazel, you are really not helping me right now! XD
Since Merlin’s passing and Brom’s neutering, I am starting to look at bunnies in the local rescues. I have always been an avid rescuer and the $300+ and stress of Bromley’s far from perfect neutering have made me look at the rescues rather than another baby so I won’t have to spay it.
BUT my resolve is weak. The rescue I am interested in that does bunny speed dating is a 2 hour drive away and I am worried that that would stress Bromley out too much (I don’t have a high opinion of the local rescue). Yesterday I was at a Renaissance Festival and they had a petting zoo, so of course I had to look at all the cute animals! My husband points at a beautiful English Spot and says how much he likes that coloring and that we should get one like that. AND THEN THE WOMAN HANDS ME A BABY FLEMISH GIANT TO CUDDLE!!!!! Ugh it was soooo cute!!!!! And so tiny!!!!! And SOFT!!!! My sister had a good laugh at my expense. Well today I go on CL and there is an ad for 6 week old black and white mini rexes IN MY TOWN. So they are the color that my husband wants and my favortie breed! And then I log on here and see Hazel’s little sweetheart… NOT HELPING UNIVERSE!
Or should I just call this destiny and go get one? ![]()
Hazel, I too am stunned by his adorability!
I want to make an announcement: My Bam whos has been suffering from obesity is now officially no longer fat. He now weighs 1992 g (4,39 lbs). When he went on his diet on April 22 he weighed 2300 g (5,07 lbs). Vet said he needed to lose 2-300 g. This has now been accomplished. He has just celebrated by turning his litter-box upside down.
Awwww congrats Bam!!!
Good news!
The local exotics vet will let us buy one dose of Revolution from them, no need to have it shipped. Which means, if all goes well, we’ll go ahead and take him home tomorrow! Get ready y’all! ![]()
LBJ, often when people donate to a rescue or shelter, they specify where the funds go to. So if that cat habitat was built with cat donations, it wouldn’t be allowed to be used for a rabbit. And shelters that do not have many rabbit surrenders, using a large space for a small critter is a waste of shelter space. You gotta use the space as needed, and if a rabbit is there for a long period of time, it can’t be used for the animal it was intended for. At least the rabbit wasn’t dumped on a street somewhere, its safe and being cared for, and will have all the room it needs when adopted.
Hazel, I am dying of happiness for you. You have waited so long for a bunny… and I’m so happy it’s finally coming true. I really can’t wait to hear how it goes tomorrow. You HAVE to bring him home!!! Hahaha. Any name ideas yet?
Valkyerie – I would be VERY careful about that CL posting. 6 weeks is a little young to be away from the mother which leads me to believe someone inexperienced or not rabbit-savvy is selling them. When taken away from their mother too young they have a very slim chance of survival, so I would be very careful with a post like that. They don’t offer a vet visit like a shelter so there’s no way to know if the babies are healthy or have problems. I can’t be a hypocrite as three of my five came from a breeder but if you give your money to someone who is breeding bunnies – make sure they are doing it correctly. And make sure the little one is healthy before you bring him home.
I know how it is to just jump into the opportunity – that’s how we got our three Tans and I LOVEEEE the heck out of them but we really should’ve spent more time looking.

It was strange because there were names of people all over the dog area. The cat area didn’t really have people’s names all over.
Anyway, this was a brand new adoption center. They built the building and designed all these areas for the animals. It’s just hard to believe they didn’t make an effort for the small animals like they did the dogs and cats. But I guess whatever. Hopefully they will continue to see only a few rabbits. My guess is that most people around here either dump their rabbits or give them away to someone who wants them for unspeakable reasons. ![]()
tanlover: Thank you! I’m very very excited, while Hubby is mildly enthusiastic
. Right now we’re thinking maybe “Oscar”.
Sorry I can’t reply to all of you, we gotta get going and get ready for this bun!! We’re supposed to be there at noon and still have to go shopping and get to the vet…
Hello! I’m finally back in Delaware. I’m going to go pick up my bunnies in a few hours and i will love to post a couple pics of our wedding for y’all to see! That’s no problem! We are still waiting on the photographer to actually send us his pictures but I do have some that guests took that I can share
that aren’t from the professional but eh :p
NBO: I’d love to see some pictures!
I posted a thread in the “Welcome” section for anyone who’s interested. ![]()
Just got back with my bunnies! Now my husband realizes just how hard I work at keeping their cage cleaned! We walked into our friends apartment and the cage was sooooooo MESSY! Hay was scattered everywhere. It was just crazy it looked like a tornado went through it and my friend was like, “I thought they were cleaner than this because every time we came over their cage looked so clean!” Lol I told her I’m constantly doing little pick ups and I sweep out the cage every day lol.
Luckily she didnt mind the mess. She honestly thought I was going to get mad because she couldn’t keep up with the bunnies messiness. I told her that the rabbits don’t care if their cage is scattered with hay. It’s all personal preference to her and her husband lol I was only diligent because I personally am a clean freak and constantly cleaning up after them lol the buns don’t notice :p well, I wouldn’t say I’m a clean freak but when it comes to having animals I am very diligent at not wanting my house smell like animals lol so I’m a clean freak in that department
Luckily they don’t mind the messiness of the bunnies when they don’t keep it maintained and it won’t affect future baby sitting jobs. Harley and Sally are now relaxing in their nice CLEAN cage right now. It took me a long time to clean it back to my standards haha and we only had to pay them $150 plus expenses for their food which was only $40 extra for 3 weeks! I’m glad I have my babies home again. Now I will upload some pictures of the wedding here shortly ![]()
FOr those wanting to see a couple wedding pictures. I made a thread in the lounge! ![]()
Congrats on the wedding NBO! I wish you and your new husband many years of happiness.
I’m glad your buns were all right with the sitters. They’re probably glad that their momma is back though.
I’m really excited for Friday. As silly as it sounds to most people I am throwing Ox a birthday party. And since it’s his first I want to make it special. I’ve ordered some things for him from the BB store (mini haven, vine star ornament, and the bunny brunch box.) I will also be making him a bunny cake, which is just lots of fruit with a bit of veg blended into mush and then formed into a circle with a dollop of mashed banana on top.
Also for his birthday, although it won’t be finished by Friday, is his NIC cage which I have been slowly building for the past two months.
I had to take Bleu in today to get spayed. She weighs 9 pounds! She isn’t overweight though, which is what I was worried about. I didn’t realize how big she would get lol. I brought a little bag of kale and hay for her and the vet said she would give it to her after the surgery
I almost cried when they wrapped her in the towel and took her away from me. She looked at me like I was abandoning her (or at least that’s what I am imagining that look was for
lol) 4 pm cant come fast enough, I want my baby safe and home right now.
TanLover: No worries, I know all of that since I have had rabbits for over 20 years and my dad and grandfather both bred them, but thank you for your concern.
I was just illustrating that temptation is out there! Or was…
I had to miss work yesterday because tah-dah! Brom ripped open his incision AGAIN and the vet couldn’t get me in until the afternoon. Luckily she didn’t charge me anything for her restapling it, but she had a lot of nasty things to say about the vet that charged me $145 on Saturday to glue it lol. As soon as we got home he started picking at it NON STOP! After an hour of flicking him every time he went near it, I called the vet for suggestions on what to do. For the next 4 hours my sister and I tried everything! We put him in a shirt, in a diaper, in a bunny thong….he always found a way out and to get to that incision! So I don’t think the staples will be in for long. -.-;; Plus he started attacking me whenever I went near his cage so he is obviously not happy with me. But he did come over for cuddles and kisses after his dose of antibiotics this morning. My husband just keeps looking at me and saying “Never again! From now on we buy them pre-neutered!”
It took years for me to be convinced to neuter a rabbit and after this whole debacle I’m not sure I would do it again. Even my bunny vet says that if I am ok with the non-neutered personality then maybe we shouldn’t do it next time because there isn’t the same health concerns as there is with unspayed females.
What about an e-collar? Tanlover had to use one of those for Nora.
Wow, I’m frustrated. I went to the neurologist again to talk about my MRI. It felt like he was wondering why the heck I was there. He doesn’t know what’s wrong with me, so all I can do at this point are seemingly random tests that he is doubtful will show any meaningful results. *sigh*
Valkyrie – I would definitely get an e-collar like LBJ suggested. I hate using them on rabbits because it really freaks them out at first but when Nora wouldn’t leave her incision alone we had no choice. After a bit she got used to it though and was fine. I would definitely get one on him before he gets his incision infected! Noras incision had three layers of glue and stitches and she STILL was on the verge of tearing the whole thing open. Luckily we got her to the vet pretty quickly and they had us watch out for signs of infection but she was fine! He was just keep messing with it until he has something like the e-collar that makes it impossible. Little brats!
LBJ, that doctors can really be frustrating. I’ve been ignoring them since they told me I had cyclic vomiting syndrome. It’s really just a complete guess as there’s no way to test for it and they can only treat your symptoms. It’s so frustrating to have problems with no answers. And some doctors have a REAL good way of making you feel almost bad for having questions or wanting answers from them!
That cake sounds really awesome, MissGabb! You should post the recipe and results so the rest of us can see it! I’m curious (and interested) in making one myself for my little hoppers!
116 out of 130 dogs in the shelter up here are pit bulls! I have a feeling the process to find a rescue dog are going to be a very long journey. It’s that bad in all the shelters *sigh* that’s on,y 14 dogs to chose from and like 10 of them were other “aggressive breeds” it makes me so mad just how over bred the pit is.
tanlover – I think they have given up on me. I don’t fit into a category, so they don’t know what to do with me.
So I half-jokingly said to my husband that I wanted the bunny we saw at the humane society. You know, the one in the tiny cage. She was so cute. His reply – They aren’t open anymore (it was late). You would need to play with her to see if you liked her. Me – =O
I don’t know if he was being serious or not. LOL I don’t know if my boys would like a new “roommate”. =p
It’s so exciting to have a bunny again! Oscar is settling in well, we’ve seen him binky and zoom around and this morning I saw him laying on the floor, all stretched out. It looks like he’s starting to get comfortable here.
Lily is having a little trouble adjusting. When we first brought him home, she definitely wanted to eat him. I expected her to be afraid of him, normally she’s scared of anything new. She has been getting better though. Yesterday she wasn’t stalking him much anymore, mostly she sat nicely and watched him, sometimes they gave each other a sniff. Other times she’ll just ignore him and walk off, which is fine with us. I think she’s a little freaked out by him, if he starts zooming or jumps down the ramp, she’ll get startled at times. She’s trying to decide weather he’s edible, scary or a friend. I think she’ll be okay with him, in time.
LBJ10: You should go and get to know that little bun. ![]()
None of the vets out here will collar a bunny, even the bunny vets. But the good news is that the staples are holding and he is leaving it alone now. He is also taking his antibiotics with little resistance and the incision looks good. It was just a very long, frustrating week. To top it off, the non-bunny vet I took him to on Saturday when he chewed the stitches out didn’t actually give me 7 days worth of antibiotics! So I called the bunny vet today to get more and I spoke with the vet that did the surgery (Brom has seen 3 vets in total this week). He is so upset with what I went through that he is putting a credit on my account. I don’t know how much, but I’m still happy with the gesture. I am going to post pictures of Bromley “modeling” some of our attempts on the Picture thread. ![]()
Hazel – She was very cute. I wonder if they allow bunny dates. Hmm…
Valkyrie – Not even one of those fabric ones? Maybe a pet supply store would have one.
Well this is weird. I’m worried about our eagle. She was so agitated today and bouncing all over the place. She charged at me twice (!) and she was “crying” non-stop. She never acts like that. Normally she just eats her food and doesn’t pay attention to anything I’m doing. Hopefully she isn’t sick. We worry about west nile a lot.
LBJ – YOU HAVE AN EAGLE?!?!?!!? That’s so crazy! I’ve never heard of that before? What’s it like??
Valk – that’s weird… I’ve never heard of a vet NOT advocating them for rabbits ripping at their stitches.
I’m so happy tomorrow is Friday! This week at work has been sooo exhausting. Everyone in my department tells me every day the work load is neverending and you will always be behind…. but I don’t like feeling behind so it’s really been stressing me out! Every day when I noticed I’m getting too stressed about it, I try and relax but it’s really difficult. Being new, I’m not sure the point where it’s okay to be behind and when it becomes TOO far behind. I’m slowly being able to do all the tasks much quicker though so I’m sure that will help and I’m learning what works best for me. I swear though – I get so happy it’s Friday and before I know it – it’s Monday again and I feel like I got nothing accomplished!
tanlover – Well she isn’t my personal eagle. LOL I don’t think it would be legal to keep one as a pet. She lives at the place I work. I take care of her whenever I’m assigned to that area. She is fun to watch and she will “talk” to me. She is normally a very calm bird, so that is why I am worried about her. Like I said, she was very agitated and not acting right. Hopefully she will be better tomorrow.
Don’t worry too much. You are new to the job, so I’m sure everyone is understanding and they know you are doing your best. I always feel overwhelmed when I am trying to pick up on something new, especially on the job.
That’s so interesting! For a second, I really thought you had an eagle as a pet – I was completely shocked! Not enough sleep apparently, haha! How does she interact with you?? That much be incredibly interesting to experience. I’m so jealous!
Thanks for the positive thoughts!!
I’m sure it will get easier but until it does… I will probably keep stressing myself out! I’m just not used to a job where they know there is too much work for you to actually finish. Sounds so odd to me.
I must admit though…. I DO now understand why it takes so long for insurance claims to be processed! OY.

I call her name when I come to her cage and I talk to her. She usually “talks” back with her eagle sounds. I show her the food and she will follow me back to the spot where I normally put it. She will definitely follow people around, almost as if she wants attention. When it’s hot, I will give her showers and she usually sits there while I mist her. She is just a calm bird overall. That’s why I was shocked when she charged at me. She could easily hurt me if she wanted to. She just charged and stopped short though. ![]()
Hehe, those insurance claims do take a long time. I imagine there are a lot of steps though and there are people who have to do all of it. ![]()
Long time no see everyone! I hope you’re all doing well! I’m trying really hard to get back on forums again. A lot of things have happened this past month! My mom sold the house I grew up in, I signed a lease for my new apartment in a different city, Lucy had her first out of town trip and her first vet visit, she also is 9 months as of two days ago (oh how time flies! I can’t even believe she was a hormonal brat 5 months ago).
LBJ10: Taking care of an eagle must be amazing! What kind is she? I hope she’s back to normal soon.
tanlover: It’ll get easier the longer you do it. At least they realize that there’s no way you won’t be behind a little bit. I hope you’re still enjoying it, even though it’s stressful right now.
We’re getting to know Oscar more and more, and he’s getting more comfortable with us. He’s starting to enjoy noserubs and even let us pet his back a couple of times. The other day we clipped his nails, no problem at all. And he LOVES to flop, all the time! Sometimes he’ll flop the wrong way, instead of up against something he’ll just roll away into empty space. He’s so plump, he looks like a fat little sausage, rolling around. ![]()
Hubby loves him too! ![]()
Ive just about had it with animal shelters up here. Anytime I find a puppy I want they have the adoption fee at like $650 AND you have to sign a spay and neuter agreement saying you’ll have them fixed at 6 months at your own expense. =O the benefits of rescuing a dog is they get fixed for free because its part of the adoption fee. Also, $650 is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for a dog! Especially if you still have to pay for him to get fixed. I can go to a breeder and get that same “hybrid” dog for cheaper!
Shelters seemed to have uped the anti on being able to adopt. They are making it easier to just go to a breeder than to adopt from them. Not only that but most of what they have available are pitbulls. I’m getting annoyed that anytime I find a puppy online and I go to look at the adoption agreement it’s over $400 and they have ridiculous requirements. Such as fixing them yourself or enrolling them in a petsmart obedience class… In Texas most shelters dog adoption fee was $75-$150 TOPS. Come over here and they are charging as much as a breeding organization would. The shelters have turned into a business and not an actual shelter. They think the animals life in a small kennel is better than a home that can’t or really just doesn’t feel the need to drop $600 on a dog. I’ve financially capable of providing for my animals. But $650?! That could go to the spay and neuter or vet bills to get them checked out.
Done with my rant for the day. Just about had it with shelters.
I understand you completely NBO! Up here we have all sorts of private rescues open up, which should be a good thing since I would love to overthrow the SPCA (long story there), but so many of them are just out for a profit and you can tell. There is also a trend for the shelters to import rescues from high kill shelters in the U.S. and this just adds to the problem. Of course these dogs need homes, but there are so many homeless dogs IN Canada and now they have to compete for homes with the imported ones. Plus the shelters that do this increase their adoption fee to cover the travel and quarantine costs so other shelters think “oh hey their adoption fee is $200 more than mine so I will up mine by $150.” I want to slap people that say if you can’t afford hundreds of dollars for the dog, you can’t afford to care for it. Dogs really are not that expensive, especially the rat ones, and this just takes away from the spoiling budget. And the rescues do a smear campaign on “backyard breeders” and classify any breeder who does not have a kennel and a business license a puppy mill. I’m sorry, but I would rather get my puppy from someone who had a litter of pups and raised them in their home with their family than a business that bred them in kennels and left them up to the kennel assistant while they were traveling to shows. And in my experience breeders are more honest. Way too often I hear of people that get a shelter dog and then a few days later discover all of these behavioural or medical problems that the shelter claims they never knew about. This doesn’t help the dog! It just makes it more likely that it will be dumped again because the new owners may not know how to deal with it! My parents had this happen last year. My cousin ran a bully breed rescue and when she split with her man she had to move and find homes for her dogs. Since my dog and I were moving out, my parents were looking for a new dog. I told her that we were looking for a 20 – 30 lbs dog, preferably jack russell but we like mutts too, had to be cat friendly. She said she had two 3 year old jack russell huskies that were 40 lbs. My dad and sister went to look at them and they were not what she had said! Baby was about 50 lbs and Barry was over 60 and both were non-stop barking and growling at them. They brought Barry home and a week later got Baby, they were siblings and Baby wasn’t doing well alone. Her “well-mannered angels” that she had for 2 years turned out to come with a lot of suprises, including the death of my cat. But we have had them a year now and they are so much better (although Barry is a coward and will still snap at strangers), but every time my cousin came over to visit them she would let out another bit of truth about them: like that their mom was a pitty.
Hahaha as you can tell, I like to rant too. ![]()
Well it frustrates me when on the page about the adoption process and fees it says for purebred and speciality breeds the adoption fee is higher. Ummmm pretty sure a purebred dog and a mutt cost the same for care so why do they cost more to adopt? Just shows they are for profit. Idk. I’ve been looking around at shelters. We are taking our time finding the right dog. We know what we want and won’t do an impulse adoption/purchase unless it matches our families needs.
And I ow what you mean. Our SPCA locally is very bad. Very corrupt they are always making the news for terrible acts they are doing and I refuse to support them so I haven’t even checked. I have looked at other shelters in the state and even in neighboring states because we are willing to make the drive for the right companion
I can’t wait to get Abbie a doggie friend but we will have to be patient
Ya and keep your eyes on the local papers and CL too. I was looking at shelters when I was looking to get Chance, but he was on CL. My dad (who was also looking lol) saw the ad as soon as it was posted. A woman found him on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere at night while coming home from Alberta. There was no houses or cars for miles so she brought him home and posted him on CL for free. I called and immediately took the 2 hour drive to see him and instantly fell in love with his poor scared face. He was only about 10 weeks old and he must have experienced something bad out there because he had night terrors for weeks. He would cry and shake but was unable to wake himself up even if he just dozed off.
He’s two now and I still have to wake him up from a night terror at least once a week. If I wouldn’t have taken him he could have ended up in a shelter because the woman who rescued him was only allowed one dog and couldn’t keep him another night.
Tan: Here’s the link to the recipe that I’m very loosely following.
amazingdwarfs.blogspot.com/2007/09/…-cake.html
It’s very sad to me that so many shelters are just in it for the profit. You would like to think that places like these, as well as other organizations for the needy, would be looking out for their wards instead of just money signs. ![]()
Tanlover – we work in time slots allocated for a service and it can be hardwork not to be behind especially if there are cuts for half and hour then another half hour appointment after the other after the other and getting behind worries everyone but you do get used to it and although you try and get it done on time you learn to give yourself a break if you do run behind, the sky won’t fall down after all ![]()
Hazel – She’s a bald eagle. =)
Yeah so I did something very bad. I told my husband I wanted to play with the bunny at the shelter. OMG she is so cute! She was sitting in my lap to start. The lady said the poor thing keeps getting passed around every time a school group comes in. Anyway, she was grooming my arm while I held her and let me pet her. I put her on the floor and she quickly started running around and exploring. Hehe, she nibbled my purse and my husband’s shoes. Then the lady had a little bit of trouble getting her again. =p Such a sweet bunny. They said we could bring our rabbits there to meet her. I don’t know though. I mean, we would have to do a lot of rearranging to house a 3rd rabbit. My husband is hesitant. He said she was nice and would probably find a home before we would make it back (which I suppose is okay with him).
I have had two terrible things happen to me today.
The first is that I saw an ad on CL for two bonded spayed rabbits needing a new home. I am only planning on getting one and the rescue I am in contact with says they think they have the perfect match for me, but these two are so beautiful! A harlequin rex (my all time favorite!) and a blue merle lop (squee!). I texted my best friend “tell me I am only allowed 2 rabbits.” She replied with “Ok, you are only allowed 4 rabbits…oops my finger slipped!” A couple hours later I was talking to my husband on the phone and I said “tell me I am only allowed 2 rabbits.” What was his reply? “No! I said you could have 4 rabbits!” LOL I must stay strong!!!!!
Ok so that was more of a jokingly terrible thing, but this one is actually terrible. I checked FB on my lunch break and say a post from my mom saying that someone dumped chemicals all over their three dogs last night!!! I called my mom and my sister answered so she gave me the scoop. I was volunteering late last night so I picked my dog, whom they puppysit, up from their house at about 11. I guess the other dogs decided to have a pee before bed so Mom let them out into their large fully fenced yard. Suddenly they come running back crying and my sister notices that they are all wet and smelly. They soon realized that someone threw some sort of chemical over the 6 foot high fence and coated all 3 dogs, mostly their faces. Mom called the cops while my dad and sister got the dogs bathed. Luckily they were quick and none of the dogs got burned or poisoned. The cop that arrived on the sceen figures he knows where it was thrown from, but there is not enough evidence to know if burglers snuck into the neighbour’s yard and threw it over to kill them and come back later or if our neighbour is a sick, rotten excuse of humanity. But a file is open now so if anything else happens to our dogs or other dogs in town there is at least a record. The cop was so upset and he is pretty sure it was a pesticide thrown on them, but we don’t know for sure.
A few years ago I had a large outdoor aviary with finches, canaries, and button quail. But one day I came outside and 3 birds were dead. Over the next week I lost 40 birds and brought the remaining 6 inside. I never found out whether they got some mystery disease from the wild birds or if the fumes from the weed killing company that my other neighbours hired caused it. Last night while the cop was mapping out the large area that the chemical was thrown at, he noticed that a lot of it landed on my now empty aviary (I haven’t been able to bring myself to restock it or throw it out). Now I wonder if last night was not the first time someone dumped chemicals over my parents’ fence….
Took this video of my fiance and Kern playing tag. He does this now whenever someone goes upstairs and comes back down. Or he will go upstairs, dig, get yelled at, continue to dig till one of us (usually the fiance) has to go up and tell him to go downstairs. We are pretty sure he is doing it on purpose just so he can play tag lol.
By the way Bleu is healing nicely. I had a bit of a scare cause the night I brought her home her ears and face got really cold. I wrapped the blanket around her and put a warm water bottle in the cage with her, after a few hours she was fine and back to her normal warm self. She is still a bit crabby, just wants to be left alone but otherwise she is doing great. ![]()
So I have a puppy! Harley hates him though and Sally is terrified of him. But with the proper introductions things will go smoothly.
The puppy didn’t seem at all interested in the rabbits. Right now I am hanging out in the livingroom giving the bunnies a chance to exercise while the puppy in his kennel in our bedroom howling and whinning while my husband is trying his hardest to sleep through it lol the first night in the kennel is always the worse! Here are some pictures!
NBO – PUPPY! O.O
He is the cutest puppy ever.
This our first puppy together so I’m really excited! My husband is nervous because he has NEVER had a puppy before! Well when he was a little boy he did but his mom did all the work. He’s nervous when he has to watch the little guy tomorrow while I’m at work. It’s so cute
He told me I better have my phone on me the entire time I’m gone. But I can tell he is really excited about him. I’m going to let my husband name the puppy so for now, he’s nameless
Congrats on your new puppy, NBO! How old is he? He looks like he’ll be a big boy!
What a cute little guy.
Valkyrie: I’m so sorry about your dogs, and your birds too, of course. If that’s indeed what happened to the birds, then I guess it points to your neighbors.
How well do you know them? Have they ever complained about the pets before? It’s such a horrible thing to do! I’m glad the dogs are okay.
LBJ10: I think she wants you to take her home!
Do you have any pictures?
The pics make him look big. We thought he looked large in the pictures but then we went to go see him and was like “oh…well ok then!” He’s 8 weeks and weighs just shy of 2 pounds currently. He has a lot of fluff lol I don’t think he will get over 25 lbs. Or that’s what I calculated. Taking him to the vet soon to get his shots and have the vet give a guess on his breed and adult weight
NBO – Aww, what a sweet puppy! Is he a new friend for your other dog?
Valkyrie – That is insane! I’m so sorry that happened!
Hi guys!!!!
I Just joined so forgive me if I do this wrong or something but I just wanted to say hi to everyone. Adorable puppy by the way.
Here’s the bunny in question. This isn’t my picture though.

She’s super adorable. But I have to admit it probably wouldn’t be a very good idea. They said we could bring our buns in to meet her. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean all three of them will get along in the end. If we had a 3rd bun, it would need to be with the others. We don’t have anywhere to set up a whole new bunny kingdom right now, at least not anything permanent. Remember, my husband tore up half of the house and there are bathroom “things” taking up the whole living room. *sigh*
My husband is backing down already. I’m afraid that by the time I could convince him to give it a shot (take the buns for a date), she will be adopted. Perhaps it is better to let her go now?
Aw, she looks so sweet! I guess if you don’t feel that it’s a good idea, then go with your gut. She is adorable though. ![]()
She is sweet! ![]()
Ox’s party had to be rescheduled for today because I miscalculated the shipping times and we wouldn’t have had presents if we’d celebrated yesterday.
The ‘cake’ I made turned out to be a disaster. I tried making it twice but each time it just came out with a smoothie texture, which I’m sure it wasn’t supposed to. He liked it though! And surprisingly so did my 3 yr old sister who decided to share with him. Lol.
He’s also love, love, loving the mini haven! He went in and didn’t come out until FOUR HOURS later! And when he did finally come out it was only to go bathroom and then he disappeared once again.
Currently he’s sprawled out on the couch after doing some impressive 500’s and getting lots of momma kisses.
Anyway, I should have lots of birthday spam in the July Picture thread soon if anyone’s interested.
LBJ, that bunny is gorgeous! So pretty! And yeah he is Abbie’s new companion. We will still take her to see Bear once a month but it has been incredibly hard leaving the house and leaving her there all alone
lol
So everyone, my husband has decided to name him Brevin! So that will be his name for now unless he changes his mind. I gave my husband the luxury of naming the puppy since this is his first puppy
Meet Brevin, officially
Done with the puppy pics, I promise
Abbie is still warming up to him. She has her moments of playfulness and wrestling with him but I also notice her putting him in his place so to speak. Which I just let it happen. He is kind of young (7 weeks) and needs to learn better social ettiquette and I’m glad Abbie is letting him know that those needle sharp teeth don’t feel good lol
Brevin is such a cutie! I’m loving that name as well. He’s going to be a mischief maker, I can just tell. Abbie is beautiful as well. ![]()
*sigh* I keep daydreaming about it now. My husband says no, but he is also sending mixed signals. Example: We were over by the shelter (at a hardware store) and I said we should swing in there to see if she’s still there. He replied that they would get mad at us for playing with the rabbit and not adopting her. I said, well who says we aren’t going to? Then he said, no we’re not. So we go home and now he is looking at pictures of bunnies on the shelter’s website. This is awful. I shouldn’t have played with her. I know it’s not a good idea to get her, but she was so freaking adorable!
LBJ she is adorable. Would you be open to talking to your husband again? Maybe have him play with her? =/ How is the bald eagle doing?

Haha! I should probably give it a rest for the day. They are closed now anyway. He was there when I played with her. He was the one who said I could. ![]()
As far as I know, nothing has changed. I’m sure my boss would have let people know if something serious happened. I will see her this week, so I will be able to check on her. I hope she is doing better. Hopefully it was just “something in the air” that got her so worked up.
So I wanted to share with you guys our newest addition to the family. But shhhhhh….don’t tell anybody we got him.
Sadly we have met our 4 bunny quota. (For now
) We got him (we think a him) last Saturday from a pet store. (I know bad us!
) But I noticed him sneezing and I have a feeling he has a URI. I tried talking to the pet store about getting him looked at and they were sort of confused by the idea of taking him to a vet. Since we were in a very rural area I wasn’t too surprised. With how sweet the little guy was we just couldn’t leave him be. We didn’t want him going to an uneducated family where he wouldn’t get treatment. We have to still schedule him a vet visit but he will definitely be seen to this week (thank god for pay checks).

Skippers mama, I’m not sure how big he will get as we don’t know who the dad is but the momma is a $*&!zu. He weighs about 2 pounds right now and is super fluffy. He’s already causing lots of mischief. He has a habit of bringing our shoes into the living room. And it’s hard work because the shoes are larger than him. And then he sleeps in our pile of shoes lol
LBJ, maybe your husband was looking at pictures online to see if the bunny was still there? Maybe he is deep down wanting her too
I didn’t spell shih tzu correctly and binkybunny caught it. I swear I didn’t mean vulgarity when I spelt it that way
Skippers Mama, what a cutie… Has the name been decided yet ?
I love the foresty-colored buns!!! So freakin’ adorable!!!
i figure i’ve bought around 700 heads of romaine so far this year, but i cant remember the last time i ate a salad…
Hi Everyone!! I am so sorry I have been gone. It has been a handful between school and having my 5 year old visiting this summer and Gizmo recovering from surgery. Ten bunnies and 7 kids can really take up your time!!! and a full time student too, I go 100 MPH everyday until I crash. I hope that everyone is ok. My daughter goes back to her mom’s on Sunday, and I am on a break from school until the 19th, going to try to relax lol. Gizmo has healed amazingly well, but is still on two antibiotics for another 2 weeks. and has gotten soooo much better with his potty box now that he got his little friends clipped lol.
NBO Brevin’s so fluffy and cute! I can’t help but go, alkdjfoaiergkfjadoifejlkjdaife toooooo cute for words, every time I see his photos.
Since his mama was a shih tzu I’m guessing a decent size then. I’m glad Abbie has a friend. I know how lonely animals can get.
Roberta I just realized I totally forgot to mention his name! It’s Tohka. I had this HUGE list of names from various video games, sci-fi shows, comics, and what not.
The bf wasn’t too fond of the names I picked. We ended up stumbling upon this random anime the other night and one of the characters’ name is Tohka. I just sort of thought it fit him.
Longhairmike hahahahaha!
Bullrider good to hear that Gizmo is doing well! I hope you had a great time with your daughter! Have fun relaxing. It sounds like you really deserve it. ![]()
Ian’s behavior has been baffing me lately. He seems to be trying to get Skipper’s every chance he gets. Their cages are set right next to each other. And he has taken to “dancing” around in front of her to try to get her attention but she just ignores him. And every time she goes to hide in the corner of her condo, Ian stretches himself up to get a look at her. We were hoping to try to bond Ian and Hugo since Ian is such a sweetheart and puts him at ease. But with how much attention Ian has been giving Skipper I feel like it would break his heart if we didn’t bond them together. At least we have Tohka now. I’m really hoping he’ll be extremely kind to Hugo since he’s such a skittish boy.
Skipper’s Mama: Your new bun is beautiful! He’s lucky you found him.
I hope the sneezing gets better soon.
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!
LBJ, you should get heeeerrr.
She’s adorable.
Skipper’s Mama, that new little guy is beau — er handsome. I hope his sneezing goes away soon so that he can fully enjoy his new life.
We’re going back to the shelter! =D
Wow, I’m really heartbroken right now. =(
I had finally convinced my husband to get that little bunny. We were going back to the shelter to put her on hold for tomorrow so we could take the rabbits to meet her. We got there, walked in, saw her sitting in her cage. I walked over toward her cage. Suddenly, two kids came flying through the door. They ran right past me, right up to her cage. Then they said “that one, that one”. Before I could even get a word in, they had whisked her off to a room to play with her. I asked the lady at the counter if they were going to adopt her. She said she thought so. We waited only 20 minutes until they came out. They adopted her right in front of me. I cried. Not inside there, but in the car. You guys do NOT want to know what I had to agree to with my husband in order for him to agree we could get her (if our rabbits liked her). I feel like I have lost a rabbit. It hurts that bad. My husband seemed relieved. I don’t think he wants another one. I guess he dodged a bullet.
Oh LBJ!!! I am so sorry!!!!!! I can’t imagine what pain you’re going through. =[ We’re all here for you.
I keep thinking I should have called before we got in the car and told them we were coming. My husband had to pay a bill near there anyway, so I thought we would just do it all at once. I worry about her. It seemed pretty impulsive of them. Probably because they knew I had wanted to look at her. I mean, 20 minutes and the mother agree to take her home? I wonder if they even had a cage. I don’t want to think that she went somewhere where she won’t be loved and taken care of properly. =(
I’m sorry, LBJ. It must have been very hard to see her adopted right in front of you. I hope the pain of her loss lessens quickly.
You guys need to tell me all the reason why it was a bad idea.
Because you have wonderful buns right now that would have been upset at another bunny coming into your home. And you have more time with them now than you would have with another new bunny around ![]()
I just gave my rabbit a price of lettuce. I put it on the lino which he doesn’t like he walked out but then backed off, so I put it just infront of him. He picked it up and ran off around the corner. I then walk into the lounge and there he is still finding a safe place to eat his lettuce he sits besides the dolls house and starts to eat it. Some times I lose him in the house but he is hiding behind the curtain and looking out the sliding door window. Sometimes we take him outside(just remove the tray from his cage) at first he doesn’t want to get on the grass. But then he doesn’t want to go inside and I try to slide the tray on but he sits on the tiny piece of grass that is left cramped against the bars(I have a picture but my iPad wont let me put it up, and the bunny chewed through our keyboard cord so I can’t log on argh!!!) he also thinks he can fly sometimes I’m sitting on the couch and he jumps up between the couch and the cabniet with his legs spread so he doesn’t fall back down, he does. Just a few quirky things to share
LBJ that sucks! *trying to make you feel better* I bet the family has had prior experience with house rabbits because lets face it – what kid actually wants a rabbit over a dog or some other animal? And what parent would actually consent to getting a rabbit on a whim from an animal shelter? Usually people go to pet stores for impulsive animal purchases, not a shelter. What are the chances someone else would have snatched this particular rabbit out from under you at the exact minute you were there – so slim – obviously the universe is at work in some way whether you agree with it or not. And if the new family can’t care for the rabbit for some reason I’m sure they will bring it back and you will happen to be there on that day to adopt it.
Let’s face it, your current buns may have not liked the new addition, or maybe it would have had terrible habits that your others would have picked up on (making your life a nightmare) or maybe they wouldn’t have bonded well or at all. What if there were a lot of health problems and it would’ve been very costly, financially and emotionally, to get through them? Your husband would not be pleased with any of that and that would really make future adoptions a big fat NO from his end. If it was meant to be it would have happened, but I’m very sorry you had to be there to see it yourself. That must have been so heartbreaking and I would have cried too.
Oh LBJ I’m sorry! It just wasn’t meant to be. The universe must be telling you to focus on your buns. And my thoughts are the same as TBpony’s. For those kids to be running in like that, they knew and had planned that they were getting a bunny. That might have been a second visit to the bunny judging by their excitement. And not all bunny purchases are impulsive decisions, many people research it before hand. I think sometimes we forget that not all kids are nightmares for bunnies. I got my first bunny when I was 3 and my parents wouldn’t have got George if they thought I would be too rough and if they weren’t prepared to do most of the care. But every morning I was marching out to that hutch with my bucket of food, plucking dandylions for him as I went. I would crawl in that hutch and he would jump into my lap and cuddle up. One day one of those kids might join the BB forum and tell us how much they love and miss that little bun not realizing how lucky they were to just beat you there.
Poor Brevin isn’t feeling too hot. I think I’m switching his food too quickly because he has had the runs all night and today too
His previous mommy had him on Alpo (yuck!) And I’ve been switching him to Castor and Pollux Organix puppy food and I think it’s just a complete shock on his little tummy going from a 1 star dog food to 5 star. I was up all night giving him some pedialyte every hour to keep him from getting dehydrated as we all know how quickly a little pup can become dehydrated.
Luckily, he has managed to not go in my floor once! He runs for the door when he has to poop and I quickly go scoop the baby up to take him outside (he is doing AMAZING with house breaking) He is still actively playing and being the trouble maker I’ve already grown to love. He has his vet visit for his shots on friday (the day he turns 8weeks)
I really hope she was going somewhere good. I really feel like she was special. I don’t know why. Oddly, the adoption fee was cheaper than buying a rabbit from a pet store. She was only $15 (a special price for opening the new shelter) and she was spayed! The pet store charges $35 and you have to get them spayed/neutered which costs $125-$150 here. Holy cow!
Thanks you guys. I know that my buns may not have liked her. That is very possible. I was going to taken them to meet her first, but I suppose even that is no guarantee. And you never know, she may have turned them into even bigger turds than they already are. LOL They do have some naughty tendencies.
NBO – Oh no! I remember when we first got our doggie. She was so little and she had poop problems right away. Their little systems just can’t handle it.
Update on Brevin, still has terrible terrible diarrhea. We called the vet for advice because its just that bad and I don’t know what’ll happen if we just wait till Friday until his scheduled appt. the vet said to put him on a rice and boiled chicken diet. Keep it as bland as possible to give his gut a break.
I must be doing something right because he is still a big turd and very very active and obnoxious when he’s awake. I really feel like the pedialyte is really helping keeping him hydrated. His gums are still nicely pink and I do the skin pinch test frequently and he passes with flying colors. Just have to keep this up. I’m afraid he is lacking nutrients at this rate so I will call the vet again tomorrow and ask for advice in that department as well.
Well it’s the last day of June, so I wanted to post in the chat, but I don’t really know what to say!!! Lol!!! Anyway, The bunnies say hi!!!!
