I have strep throat, gave my boss my doctors note which excused me for the rest of this weekend.

It’s very contagious ….and I work with food and drinks.

I was not able to get anyone to cover my shifts, and someone called my boss and said I wasn’t coming in (which is not true) So she sent me an angry text message. I said no…I was looking for coverage…I never said I wasn’t coming in. Who would do that to me???

I can’t hear out of one ear it is so clogged, the doctor said I have fluid in there….neat. So I can’t hear and want to rip my throat out. Wish me luck tonight.

My boss did not excuse me the rest of the week like the doctor ordered and now I have to go in work. I feel so gross and ill.

        I seriously hate my job.

Thanks for listening, I’ll be contaminating food and drinks until 10:45pm tonight.

Well I hope you don’t get worse because you’re being forced to work.  Go cough on your manager.  LOL  JK…..

I would seriously consider putting in a complaint with the company’s HR department.  While a doctor’s note doesn’t prevent someone from being fired for absenteeism, most HR departments will honor them as long as it’s not done regularly.  Most places RECOGNIZE general illness and don’t want a CONTAGIOUS person at work, infecting other people.  Plus as you are in the food industry, it’s bad for business.

Wow, first thing that popped into my head was “is that even legal?” as well.

Hope you start to feel better ASAP especially if you have to work.

I can’t stand retail/ food service jobs. At least with a traditional “9-5” job, if you’re sick and can’t get your work done, you can do it the next day. Customers DO NOT stop coming to stores or restaurants. I will not work if I am sick. I interact with pregnant women all day (I work at a baby store), and I don’t think it’s right that I come in to work and compromise their health and possibly that of their baby. Fortunately, I have some leeway with my bosses.

Gah, that’s terrible! Not only is it terrible treatment of you, but terrible for their customers. Who wants to be served by someone with strep? Definitely sounds like an awful place to work all around 🙁

                        gahhhhhhhh

I cried enough yesterday (crying as in whining and complaining) to be sent home an hour early. I told my boss flat out I can’t get better because I am not resting and it’s not fair that I am coughing and hacking while making food and beverages.

I am still sick, now it seems to have turned into some sort of sinus infection so it was a viral infection all along? I don’t know but the doctors key words were to REST and drink lots of fluid, not be at work running around like a maniac.

I’m not going to school today, I emailed my teachers, I have my doctors notes. I wanted to get a bale of hay today but maybe tomorrow.

boo! that sucks! you’re def not going to get better really fast if you can’t rest. gross that they’d make you work serving food and drinks while sick. when i was working in food service it was the managers job to fill in if a shift couldnt be covered when some one was sick. aside from the obvious health concerns t’s just not good customer service to have front line service employees coughing & sniffling & germing up the place.

glad you’re staying home from school. hope you get lots of rest & feel better soon!

Thank you! I am hoping that someone will complain in our customer voice survey.

The store is in shambles, another 3 people actually quit/moved on. 2 are moving and the ASM was actually fired!!! YES!!!!!! It took 4 months but it finally happened. That woman was HORRIBLE. So we are short staffed again. I am so so so happy that the ASM is gone though you have no idea how much crud she started when she first transfered here. I was so mad …I have worked there over 2 years and I have a tiny diamond nose ring…so tiny you can almost not see it …she made a huge stink about it to our store manager and made me take it out. She tried to get another girl fired for not setting up the pastery case how SHE wanted it done. I mean it was CRAZY all the crud she was doing when she first got here…all this tiny stuff blown out of proportion. My manager just gave me that mom look and told me just to take it out so she didn’t have to hear about it from the ASM. I think I posted about this ASM before….she was really gross with her questionable panties always showing which is very inappropriate at work……. She would always make everyone feel uncomfortable about her weight and make fun of herself and it’s like ok…..what do you say …she called us girls “skinny beezies” ….she was insane i think…anyways …. GLAD she is gone.

I would really like to work at a feed store but they aren’t open at night to work at after school Although….could you guys see me trying to load hay bales for people….no not really.
