Pascal the Rascal is settling in well. The campaign to get him a forever home starts in earnest. I am going to set up a FB page. Diary of a Foster Bun.

My aim is not only to showcase Pascal but to raise awareness of Fostering and Adoption… I will send a link once it is up and running.

He has already pulled a few surprises. I went to freshen his breakfast salad a while ago thinking he had not touched it but was suddenly showing interest and didn’t want him eating wilty salad. When I upended the bowl I discovered that the apple slices and mint had been expertly removed from beneath the other greens and consumed in total.

Pascal also has a novel way of eating his cecals. Some he eats direct from the source at other times he deposits them in the chew and poo tray then delicately lifts them out so he can “Dine” at leisure. It’s really revolting.

Yes, seeing a movie is insanely expensive. They don’t even have student discounts anymore. Admittedly, I’ve been milking the student thing for a long time now, but come on! It was $20 just for the tickets. Don’t even think about stopping at concessions. I was uncomfortable sitting there during the movie. My legs were bothering me and when we got up to leave my knees hurt really bad. I was fine by the time we made it to the doors that led outside though.

I saw The Hobbit yesterday also!! AHHHHHH. I literally squeeeled in delight when I saw the bunnies!!!!! My friend sitting next to me was like bunniessssssss and immediately turned around to see me pretty much dying in my chair. Ha! We went to the mantee which was cheaper.

Yes, the movie was pretty good. I didn’t feel like it was all that long. I remember there was a review of it saying how it had painfully boring scenes that seemed to drag on forever. I guess I didn’t really think that at all. I remember it was over and I was thinking “that’s it?”. I loved the bunnies too! It was so cute and they were even thumping when they sensed danger. Although that’s not really how our bunnies thump. LOL

How is everyone’s New Year going? Mine started off by Chacha flinging the bathroom door spring. It woke me up and I had to rescue her. SHE GOT HERSELF TRAPPED IN THE BATHROOM!!! After the rescue, she thumped at me. I went back into bed and 2 minutes later, I get thumped at again for breakfast pellets.

Hubby and I went to see the Hobbit with my mom and step dad.  Our theater here is still fairly cheap, $6.50 a ticket for the matinee.  The concessions still kill your wallet though.   When Radagast came on screen with his sleigh my mom looked at me and said “I don’t think your bunnies can do that!”.  I so wish they could!  Would give me an excuse to get more too!

I started off my New Years by applying to be a volunteer at our Humane Society for the Bunnies!! They call them Bunny Buddys!

Had a great new years and threw a party together with my boyfriend. We had a blast!

but maaaan, PEOPLE THESE DAYS
This girl crashed my party. We have not gotten along before, and my first encounter with her was her backtalking all of my friends, and I told her that those were my friends she was talking about. Since then whenever i’ve seen her around, I’ve gotten the stinkeye from her. That incident is now 1,5 years ago, but she is now my best friend’s other best friend haha. So now we kinda have to get along. She was explaining herself (not very well though, lol), and asked to see my bunny. She has two buns of her own, and calls herself this huuuuge animal lover. She kept saying over and over how much she loved animals and they had so and so many animals etc. Well, the kicker is that she keeps her two female buns (not spayed) in a VERY poorly constructed pen, outside! For the whole year! It gets freezing here in Norway during the winter! I WAS SO MAD AT HER. I wanted to kick her in the face, and I’m really not a violent person. She was even telling me like “did you know that rabbits like to be pet over the nose like this” and demonstrated it on my face…..?? I was just thinking to myself “Well. yeah I know. Better than you do probably.” Maaaan, people! I kept my mouth shut though and just hinted to the fact that maybe she should bring them inside. Ugh.

Aww Svandis, that’s one of the difficult things about having bunnies – since so many people still do not take care of bunnies properly, it can be really frustrating to talk to other people with bunnies .

Finally back at my place after being home with my parents for a week..time to lose a bit of weight! I usually eat alright by myself, but at home, having plates of delicious food put in front of me just is not conducive to self control heh.

Peppypoo, I swear I gained like 10 pounds this holiday! I feel your pain. I’m attempting to do the same.. starting tomorrow. I needed that one last infamous hangover brunch to get me through today!

Svandis, that is horrible! I probably would’ve been rude. I never knew these things about buns but since we have had our buns I go absolutely ape-nuts when they aren’t cared for properly. It really breaks my heart.

Oh! LoveChaCha, I feel your pain… almost! This morning right after we dragged ourselves out of bed, our fire alarm went off in our building… AGAIN! After the stressful week of Christmas excitement, us having people over practically all the last week, and then our New Years Party last night… my poor bunners had to be hauled up into the carrier and dragged out to the car so we could go around the block a time or two until the fire department came. Low and behold, it was just someone who had pulled it again…. All the buns were pretty angry and horribly enough, two of them fought me tooth and nail when I had to put them in the carrier but I was more worried about all of us getting trapped on the 5th floor if there really was a fire so I had to just be a little man handley and get them in. Not anything to hurt them but when they fought I just couldn’t let them go like I usually do if I don’t have a good grip. Thankfully, everyone went in without injury to them or me! But boy were they just a digging apart the carrier… so we finally get home. And to make up for being a mean momma I gave them all their favorite – craisins and Nibble Rings. But Tanger refused to eat them. None of my buns have EVER refused a treat before. So I instantly had a mental breakdown. He wouldn’t take the craisins, the Nibbles, or his favorite veggie, endive. He was REALLY stressed and Tanger is usually the one who copes the best! I don’t know if it was the loud sounds of the alarms or what… but we could tell something was wrong with him. I was really freaking out. I put a bunch of new hay in with him though and he nestled in the big pile with Fleury and started munching.. so THANKFULLY, I stopped freaking to bad. When we came back from brunch though, he was perfectly back to normal. Phew. I’ve never had a bun not eat before, especially his treats… and all the stories sometimes gets me really worried!

lol, Peppy. I feel you. I totally gained about 5 lbs because of the holidays. Seeing as I’ve lost over 40lbs in the past 7 months, it depressed me a bit. Time to get back on track….

I was pretty much drooling over Kili… My fave type of movie has long haired guys and horses.  And this one just happened to include bunnies! So extra points there. All the horses were weird looking though, look like they have Cushings disease. I actually heard that two horses died in the making of the movie which is just awful.

Mike – That looks like something mine would do. They are so sweet! The second video that shows a close up of them shows their fur is scruffy. I assume they are mixes of some sort. What would cause that? It is too long to be rex, but too short to be a wooly breed.

OMG, I hate the news media. Telling people all this garbage about milk prices going up. Put people in a panic and they raided the milk at the grocery stores around here. I went to the store to get some milk because we are out. The entire case was empty. They carry 5 or 6 brands too. They were all gone. I asked the girl at the checkout when they would get more in and she said they didn’t know.

I really reccomend Being Human though! Mitchell (Kili), is a vampire who’s a nurse, and lives with a warewolf and a ghost. It’s a dark but really fun series.

This is going to be my vege/bunny garden. I’ve had the frame for a few weeks and today I bought 10 bags of potting mix and 1 of compost to fill it in, I then put a heap of shredded paper on the top to keep in the moisture until I get to planting.

Hi Toady, That looks great. I received two of the square ones for my birthday, I am currently composting bunny waste (uneaten veg, hay, poop, pee and newspaper) in mine. Once it’s settled a bit I am going to top fill with potting mix and soil conditioner. I hadn’t thought about mulch but I might just take the newspaper out of the bunny waste bags and mulch with the hay and poop.

Roberta – This is what happens when the news tells people that milk prices will more than double overnight and then nothing happens. But people are crazy and they buy it all up anyway.

ChaCha – I guess it depends on where the milk is coming from. Some places are better than others. I toured a local dairy and the cows had their own pasture that they could graze in and an indoor barn they could go in if they chose to. They didn’t use hormones there. I know what you mean though. Some of those operations are terrible.

Roberta – I should look into a compost bin to for composting bunny waste instead of throwing it into my green waste bin. Good luck with your little gardens. I’ve now got to look after my other gardens, including spraying the hundreds of ‘farmer’s friends’ that have popped up with round-up

    Farmer’s Friends ??? I’m guessing a weed…. Not fond of round up, I use one of the weed sprays that doesn’t leave residue in the soil…Just    trying to remember what the Roundup ingredients are…

Mmmm I LOVE milk. Love it. Seriously I can drink a quart by myself in one meal.

For the sake of less calories I’ve switched to using unsweetened almond milk for cooking. I don’t like the taste of it much on its own but it acts like heavy cream and is a great replacement

Also known as Cobbler’s Pegs, burr marigold, pitchforks, stick tights, sticky beaks etc. Round up is Glyphosate, out of the weed killers out there it’s one of the safest. 

And Longhairedmike, rounding up is great for those nasty decimals!!

my goodness.  tom the neighbor worked on my brakes 2x.  after a few days my bike brakes would go out again.  I told him I bought bike to ols.    His wife says you are not working on that bike.

wayne fixed my brakes 1 screw not all of them like t did.  they work great n he taght me a couple of things too

Bunnytowne – yeah, I was really mad! I hope she did something about it, but i really really doubt it.. I also told her in a lighter tone that it is so much fun havng them inside, that they can use a litter box and that it’s kinda like having a cat around. Also that you really get to know their personality better when they are inside. I wanted to make it sound really fun to have them inside, so that when she moves out of her parents house – maybe she’ll bring them with her.

It makes me so angry when people put bunnies in water, think it is cute and take a photo. The same goes for trancing. I only trance Chacha when I clip her back nails (otherwise it is impossible to get it done) and let her go. I don’t want to humiliate her by taking a photo of her while she is on her back

 

Man, I have been waking up with a runny nose  I have been taking Vitamin C for the past week or so.

So I am a little confused right now. My HR manager approached me today at my retail job and said she wanted to talk to me about something. I went down to her office and what she said was entirely not what I was expecting. She wanted to know if I wanted to work in the cash office (you know, where all the money stuff is taken care of). Here’s the thing:
1. Doesn’t pay anymore than I am already being paid
2. It is fewer hours than I already get (I only get like 10 per week anyway)
3. Means I would be there 7am every Saturday and Sunday
4. If I want more hours, I can be scheduled to work on the floor the same day

I don’t know what to think. On the one hand, I would be dealing with customers A LOT less. On the other hand, I wouldn’t see people I like very much. And it is 7am! I have a hard time getting out of bed. LOL

Right now it’s quite warm here and of course with the dry weather I’ve had fleas everywhere in the house, everything except the bathroom and kitchen is carpeted so lots of room to hide and breed. Because of bunnies, fish and kitties I can’t use flea bombs and don’t want to use sprays around them either, so I’ve vacuumed, sprinkled and worked borax into the carpet in the study (other half of the bunny alcove) and I’m waiting to see how it’ll go, probably the safest thing I can use in the house

I can’t trance Finn. The second I try to lay him on his back he freaks out so i let him go. It makes nail clipping really difficult :/

Oh, i saw a baby chacha at the pet store the other day

I start classes tomorrow. I’m not excited. I’m already wanting to skip my Thursday class so I can go to a men’s derby practice!

I’ve been sticking with my New Years resolution. I’ve been walking every day, jogging when no one is watching (lol), and I’ve been watching what I eat. I’m down 4lbs already! Only 20 more to go….

The rabbits were SUPER hyper last night. We let them come out into the living room. They haven’t been out here in awhile since we were afraid they would chew on Christmas stuff. They were running around, all giddy. It was so cute. Leopold came up the doggie ramp 5 times to see me. He has a short attention span, so he didn’t stay up with me for very long each time. He’s so silly. Wooly was a little overly excited about a reusable shopping bag on the floor that had some work stuff in it. He had the handle between his teeth and he was tossing his head around. Hehe!

I can’t trance Huck either. She gets out of it in no time and I usually end up bloody. I’m beginning to think she has rebroken my nose (the previous break was not due to her and it was a while ago). It makes a weird noise when I press on it and it HURTS!

Well, another semester started up today. I don’t know why, but this one seems different somehow, and I am not very excited about it. I was really enjoying my time at home.

I’ve noticed that since I brought Huck home, my eating habits have slowly improved. Today, I packed a lunch from the left over things in my fridge… A salad, carrot, applesauce, filtered water and a boiled egg. I never used to keep salad in the house, and if I did, it was the worst kind. This was some romaine, at least. I just packed it while I made Huck’s breakfast, which is a lasagna pan of veggies. (I’ve cut her pellets and upped her veggies a bit bc she Is really packing on the weight and she eats the veggies slower than the pellets)

Zoologist, you saw a baby Chacha bun? Chacha was so cute as a baby.. then she eventually became a brat

A few of my customers and my coworker gave me a total of 4 carrot tops the other day hahaha! So my vegetable crisper is full of bunny greens. No joke, it is overstuffed. My customers are happy to give them to me because the green will not go to waste I also picked up some dandelions and cilantro today, so the diva will have to get her greens on a bigger plate tonight! Such a brat :p

Winter quarter has begun here o_O

The semester started today here too. No more classes for me. I have a meeting in a week. I need to prepare myself so I can get chewed out and then be on my way. Not looking forward to it. I have to get my comps and stuff scheduled though, so unfortunately it is a necessary evil. **sigh** And I so was enjoying my break too. I didn’t want to have to think about all this stuff, so I didn’t really. Without a class to attend though, the beginning of the semester doesn’t feel real to me.

Monkeybun – Yes, no idiots. I haven’t had a lot of trouble with customers lately. Well, except those girls that were stealing stuff in the fitting room. I stood outside the door listening to them shuffle things for quite some time. Checked on them three times and they kept saying they were doing fine. I hate shoplifters. You can’t do anything about it and they know it.

Being there at 7am Saturday and Sunday…. Or rather, 7am, period! Lol! That’s the part I would be shaking my head st going “Nope! NO! NO Way!” But that’s me. It also sucks that it isn’t a pay raise… My managers like to hand out new jobs without pay raises and it kind of irritates me because its usually more work/responsibility with out any reward. But, again, that’s just me!

LBJ, I really do hope that whatever you decide, you are happy! That’s really the most important thing… Unhappiness is the leading cause of being a grump at work, so I’ve found out lol.

Ughhh. I’ve been so bad at keeping up with the monthly threads this month! And the picture one!

I’m so tired lately too. Blehhhh.

And of course, Fleury has gone on some dominance rampage. No idea what is up with him but he’s been trying to dominate the other buns and being just, well.. a big ole brat! He peed on the floor yesterday. And the other day he got really frustrated that Sidney wouldn’t groom him. He started pushing her around and being a bully until she finally did. And then he nipped Tanger on the butt today. And you can tell he’s being all…. well, it looks hormonal or something but he’s neutered! I don’t get it. The only thing I can think of is someone brought in a scent he didn’t like during all the holiday comings and goings. OH, and he’s been pooping ALL over the place. All over inside his house, all over outside.

Mike, tell me about it. Shoplifting has become a thrill for teenage girls especially. They take all sorts of things and they are extremely bold about it. Makes me angry.

Huckleberry – Yes, 7am is not a pleasant time to be anywhere. At least not for me. I am like a zombie that early in the morning.

I am going to go Saturday to watch someone doing all that stuff. It is to see if I like it and think I can do it. No definite decision yet on my part. I just wish I would have heard back about that one job prospect that has left me hanging. I understand why they want to wait and see if they want to hire someone. It wouldn’t be a good thing to be offered a job and then get laid off a short time later due to lack of funding.

ChaCha – Oh of course! Sometimes it seems that the rabbits would prefer rabbits over people though. LOL

ChaCha – Frequently…. Although Grotty Blossom Destructo Bun and Finn Gall Whingy Mouth (but why can’t I go out at night Mum ?) kitteh are pushing their luck lately.
Luna kitteh is running a close 3rd with the “Don’t go anywhere without me Mum” howl everytime I step on the patio for a cigarette.

Oh dear, Chacha, everyday… All day…

I get so tired of people. At least with Huck, I KNOW she only likes me for the food I bring home. With people. I honestly can not tell who is the friend and who is the frienemy…. It feels like most are the frenemy.

 

I went to Tractor Supply to buy wood stove pellets. It really confused them that I only wanted to buy one bag of the stuff. Then, when they told me they had sold their last 50 bags to some guy, I said “oh, that’s ok, I’ll just get that Equine Fresh”. The cashier then got EXTREMELY confused and said “those aren’t the same, you know? You can’t burn it, it’s just horse bedding”. I laughed and said ill take one bag. When the woman continued to look like I was crazy,I explained it was for a house rabbit. Boy, nothing to get weird looks like telling an Okie that you have a house rabbit. I imagine it would be like having a chicken indoors in the heart of New York City. Oh well, they were very nice about it and laughed. I had fun.

The weather is a bit warm down here (has kept below 100F/40C locally though) so I’ve been putting bottles in with the girls and Loki, although yesterday I stuck in a freezer brick which is pretty much a plastic container with coloured water in it in with the girls and when I picked them out last night the darling girls had nibbled a corner out of it… so no more freezer bricks for them!!!

Wow, my mind has been racing for the last few days. Does anyone here work with kids? Particularly, teaching them about nature stuff? I am finding it difficult sometimes because I am exposed to a lot of different kids from a lot of different schools (both public and private). I have to be careful because certain topics are off limits at certain schools. It is starting to become frustrating because kids are smart and sometimes they have serious questions about things. Does anyone know of any resources for tactfully answering those types of questions without pissing any teachers or parents off?

 

Oh BTW, I haven’t made a decision about my job dilemma yet. I went in to observe today to see what it’s like. Then I was told that well maybe I don’t need to be there at 7am, unless the store opens early or something.

It went AMAZING! It was such a great experience and it makes me SOOO happy I have my little hops at home with me where I know they are happy and are well cared for. It’s so sad to hear some of the bunnies stories but soo great to see them being given something better. I really connected with one girl, Ava. She is a GORGEOUS 3-year old mini Rex- broken black. Oh goodness is she just the BEST. I’m so addicted to her already. The Humane Society had a bunny romp so our first day was helping out with that. It was great! So Ava was the 2nd bunny we practiced on and the first one I picked up. And she snuggled right next to me the whole time after. I absolutely ADORED her. They had another Rex named Twilight, identical to her except bigger. She was my other favorite! Along with this old guy named Bun Bun who is just suuuuuch a cuddle bug! Okay… I’m in love with them all! AND they have three little babies who are beautiful also. They’re only 11 weeks old and someone just dropped them off about a week ago. All three are sisters and AWWWW, too die for in cuteness! So in other words, if you couldn’t tell, I had a blast! I’m heading back on Tuesday to volunteer again!

LBJ, I’ve worked at nature centers/marine science centers since I got out of highschool. It was much easier teaching the kids in our marine science camps, as the parents paid for them to be there so no topic was off limits. I honestly didn’t experience anything being off topic with the public/private school kids. Can you elaborate?

zoologist – Oh yes, that’s right you have some experience in this. The two biggies are sex and evolution. Kids ask questions related to these topics and I have to be very careful about how I answer. This is especially true with kids from a catholic school. I had one kid asking me all sorts of great questions but I found myself dancing around the subject. This just led them to ask more questions because I wasn’t answering them to his satisfaction. Then the teacher (looking annoyed) stepped in and said “you know why, REMEMBER?” Lots of emphasis there. LOL Then this kid had a disappointed look on his face and he said “oh yeah, because God made them that way”. Now I’m not trying to offend anyone here on the forum. I don’t have any problem with religious schools or anyone’s beliefs. It just seemed to me that this kid had been asking questions before and he is being shot down every time he asks them. It is scenarios like this that bother me the most and are very frustrating. I studied biology at a liberal arts college. I think I see things differently than a lot of people where I live.

I was very worried — but too really see how much everyone who volunteers there cares for them really helped me a lot. It helped me realize that really these bunnies are very lucky as soo many of them are just strays picked up and brought in. They have it soo much better than they ever did on the streets. The ones who are ill receive proper treatment and care. They all have towels laid down in their cages (one of my concerns had been their flooring). And I could tell the rabbit volunteers bring in toys and such for the buns as a lot of them have toys in their cages and lots of hay cubes AS well as hay. Although there are not a lot of rabbit volunteers there at all – it warmed my heart because the ones who ARE there are a very dedicated group. I’ve began saving some things around the house and I’m going to head over to our local grocery this week and see if they can spare any veggies to help the Humane Society. I’d gladly take time out of my day to pick the up and bring them over to Humane Society when possible!

I’ve never had to work in a situation like that, LBJ. But I can definitely see your qualms. As it seems like the childs curiosity and education is almost being held back by not being allowed to expand their minds. But from a religious point of view, I can see their frame of mind. Who’s to really say which is better though, although I can imagine it’s very frustrating for you as you’re teaching. It would be frustrating for me if i was in your spot also. Any ideas yet on the new job? Did going in and viewing someone doing the job do anything for you? Seem like something you’d be interested in? I’d really do what you think would be better for you or maybe they could even give you a trial period to see if you like it and if not, you can go back? Might be worth asking if thats a possibility.

Hehehe You might have trouble getting him back. The nurses there love the bunnies… Just make sure he has lots of lovely snacks for before and after his surgery. They probably already told you to bring a snack pack. I took a small bundle of hay a plastic food container of greens and a little container of pellets. Piglet recovered so quickly within 48 hrs you would not have known he’d been in for surgery.

Well I had my dreaded meeting today. Just about as bad as I thought it to be. I was expecting to discuss comps, but my adviser did another 180. Now I’m being told I have to have a thesis proposal before they can do comps. Then it seemed to be a free-for-all, picking apart everything I have already written on my thesis topic (e.g. papers for classes). Another 180, we’re back to my thesis topic not being good enough. No scratch that, it’s an okay topic but it will cost thousands of dollars to conduct and is way to “big” for a thesis topic. Maybe I could do something else. Something that I have no knowledge of and would be completely new research. o_O

Then I was told that maybe I shouldn’t do a thesis and do the non-thesis option. I would need two more classes, but the semester has already started and it is too late to register. I had wanted to do the thesis though because not doing one closes a lot of doors for you. My adviser was really pushing it though. He doesn’t think I’m capable.

Sorry, had to rant about that. I was this close to bursting into tears, but I kept choking them back. I hope they didn’t notice that.

Unfortunately, this has been the story for the last 2+ years. First my thesis wasn’t a good topic and I spent an entire summer trying to come up with something else. After coming up empty handed, I went back to plead my case. They decided that my original topic was fine. That was about a year ago and a lot of stuff has happened since then. Lots of things happened between then and now. I have been very distracted, worrying about money because it was last January when I lost my funding. I decided to focus on classes and at least get those done. Well I am done now, but apparently we are back to my topic not being viable again. There isn’t anything I can do about it really. Unless I could magically fund my own research. My adviser had originally said that they could find the money somewhere, but not he has gone back on that. So I am left with no choice other than to come up with a new topic or pursue the non-thesis option. Not doing a thesis though would make things very difficult if I ever decided to pursue a PhD later down the road. *sigh* I’m so sick of this back and forth. They wonder why I can’t make any progress, but then they flip-flop on everything they say.

I got my first blood draw ! Today I got 2 more blood from classmates the first try … with minimal pain. One of my classmates hurt me and my blood ended up splattering

Every place wants experience but sometimes you have to take that chance. People have to be persistent with certain things. My boyfriend’s friend got a Nursing job right out of school with no problem. Perhaps with her experience as a CNA helped her a little.

I hope to get hired by my externship. I’m going to school to become a Medical Assistant. I want to test the waters before I make the big leap into more schooling. Nursing is a big field and there are many different types of jobs out there. What field are you looking to wanting to work in? I really want something with Oncology or Nutrition.

The blood drawing isn’t that bad. I learned how to do immunizations and injections last quarter and that is what freaked people out the most. The only downside to blood drawing is finding the vein. Some people have EXTREMELY hard veins because it is so deep! My professors give good advice on how to find a deep vein, and such.

My teachers are training me to do the blood draw where we switch vials I think it will benefit me more in the future My hand is very steady and it doesn’t bother me to switch vials while I am drawing blood.

Reading the few posts about drawing blood makes me agree that some people have the skill and some just don’t. My mother works for a pathology chain and her main job is taking blood from people for tests, some people find my veins easily and others can’t (my mother being one of them) and there’s people who are selective about who takes their blood, especially the older folk who have bad veins. Some of the people my mother has had to work with, let’s just say, I wouldn’t trust them to stick a needle near me! Especially the lady who somehow managed to miss one of those big ‘cord-like’ veins that some men, we know the guy and he ended up with a huge bruise from where she actually stuck the needle THROUGH the entire vein.

And ChaCha, have you ever read any of Kathy Reich’s books? Much better than Bones IMHO

At one point in my life I worked as a mortician…. the dead don’t bother me regardless of the state they are in (crawlies and all)… DRAWING BLOOD HOWEVER…… I couldn’t bandage a paper cut without getting woozy. They had to get me a chair and a glass of water at the vet when we discussed my cat Bilbo’s eye surgery. Being able to work with the living and do things like draw blood etc takes a special talent.

I was exactly the same Roberta when I was younger! My family had to call blood ‘blue’ as even the mention of the word made me feel ill/sick. I’ve grown out of it now, though very bad injuries like cut off limbs and gashes and such still make me feel ill – even if it’s somebody else’s injury! Haha!

I’ve missed BB so much! Skipper has had some stomach issues, which we figured out was due to her stomach not agreeing with pellets. I decided that with her stomach being a mess I wanted to spend as much time with her as can be before she got her spay done just in case she didn’t make it. Thankfully after having pushed off the spay two times she went through it great and is in the third week of her recovery. =]

I run over there, and I see Hubby in front of the open fridge, holding the cat up, her having latched on to his sub (still wrapped and bagged) with teeth and claws, growling like the lioness she is. We both had to wrestle her mouth off it, she finally let go after succeeding in ripping off a piece of paper and bell pepper, both of which she gobbled up ostrich style before her feet hit the ground.

Congrats on your spay going good, SkippersMama! Even my spay with my healthy girl was horrifying nerve-wracking. I can’t even imagine having one go through that had stomach issues. It’s all so scary. But I’m so happy she did so well! And you too!

As some of you may not know, we have a new bun! He was adopted (kind of) — we have him fostering with us to make sure the bond between the Tans and him go well! So far so good! Sidney and Fleury have been GREAT with him. Tanger and him have had a few scuffles but the bath tub cleared that up. It’s quite obvious they are the ones fighting for dominance. But it’s gone along great and at the end of the bonding session today, new bun flopped next to Tanger while Tanger groomed! Yayy. I sure did forget how exhausting bonding is with three, much less four. But it’s been going so well I can’t help but continue going headlong into making this work! Simba is a great bun! And the complete opposite of our little hellions. He’s cuddly and loving and we can hold him and pet him for hours with him grooming us back! Hahah, exact opposite of the Tans.

Awww, Bunnygirl! I’m sure Apollo will come out of it fine! I worried really bad also. Being a bunny momma can be sooo stressful! I’m currently being forced to sleep out in the dining room with the buns for the 2nd night this weekend because Tanger saw Simba while he was out playing and immediately began fighting with Sidney again. We did another bonding session as soon as it happened with Simba and Tanger and thankfully that worked. Tanger has stopped fighting with his sister but I’m sleeping out with them again just to make sure. They’ve been cuddling and grooming all night since the incident so I think everyones fine but I don’t want to assume. For now, Tanger can’t see Simba when he’s with his siblings and he breaks out fighting with them. No idea why, any ideas anyone?? But currently Tanger and Simba are the only aggressive ones towards each other — so I think it’s just a dominance thing between those two. And it stresses Tanger out when he’s with Sidney and Fleury and glimpses Simba. I assume just something to do with that. Once in the bath tub with Simba though there is barely any aggressive at all. And Tanger seems not to lunge at Simba anymore although he still won’t just let Simba hump him. LOL. Oy vey.

Apollo will be fine… They are all really nice at Vetwest and Phil and Adrian are excellent vets as are the others there. All the nurses are lovely and he will be spoiled rotten.

Skipper’s Mama – I use Turbo Tax online. It’s free and it is really easy. You just answer the questions and it double checks for deductions and credits.

I love ETax, I suspect its the Australian Version of Turbo Tax…. We do ours in July, our fiscal year ends on June 30.
Its so easy to do online, so much of it is automatically loaded, you just have to double check it. No messy paper work and errors are easily corrected before you finally go through the final processes, return is usually back in days (if you are lucky enough to get one) and if your getting a bill you know immediately

The shaggy remains of Mr RK Skunk who has travelled through the X Pen bars multiple times in the last week only to be dragged back again the minute the bunny in possession leaves it in Yoinking distance. It cost $3 at the local Red Dot, has no stuffing other than some crinkle paper and a squeaky bulb in its butt… It is apparently the holy grail of bunny toys…..

I am officially in the bunny bad books! I just had Belle on her back for some nail clipping (I prefer to do it this way, I know it trances her but I think it is the least stressful because it’s out of the way quickly) and while I was at it I looked at her feet because I found some feet fur on the floor the other day. The fur on her feet always seems a little matted (nor sure if normal or not) but when I touched it today little clumps came out, pretty sure she’s about to have a fairly large molt!! While I had her like that I brushed her feet to get rid of the loose fur and clear up a little of the matting.
Now that it’s all over she keeps running up to me like she wants pets and then I think she remembers she’s in a bad mood with me and runs away again with some little feet flicks! . She’s such a little diva!

Well, Apollos been done! He came around from the anaesthetic pretty quickly, and he’s eating and pooping and peeing, which is fabulous! He’s still a little grumpy, and it met be uncomfortable for him because it took him six hours to pee and then he did this huge pee that soaking the freshly cleaned litterbox so much that I had to clean it again!! Haha! He’s doing brilliant though, eating the veggies when my mum put them in, but ignoring them when I do it! -.- little fusspot!
Roberta, I went out and bought the brown rabbit looking one for Apollo, I’m going to give it to him soon! I think he’ll enjoy it aww Piglet! He’s such a little cutie! You must post pictures when he’s been done!

Semi new to the forum and this is my first chat post

I just wanted to say my little guy makes me laugh so much!
His personality is really starting to show.
He knows that he gets out of his xpen when we get up in the morning, so as soon as he hears me up he starts chewing on it and jumping around.
I let him out this morning and he was zooming all around the living room. He has claimed my son’s little pop-up tent and he runs in one side and out the other.

After the whole thing with Corrina… have you thought about a sending an application to Rabbit Wranglers for fostering? I know the lady who runs it really well, Alyssa. She gets back to me very quickly. I mean, we had Simba being fostered at our house the day I e-mailed her to say we wanted to meet him! LOL! I pushed a little hard for it but she pulled through for me. Let me know if you want to get in touch with her. Who did you e-mail about fostering? Or you could always message the big rabbit lady in Pittsburgh, Mary. She has been great with me also and is also very quick to respond. She works with all three rescues in Pittsburgh. And is GREAT.

Oh god, Judges Park. Yeah, I sent them an application for a bunny named Gizmo. Still haven’t heard back. But luckily I didnt, as we now have Simba.

She is great! She told me if Simba didn’t work out — she’d help us foster to adopt as many others that we are interested in. Until we find the perfect one. She really is an amazing person! You should talk to her about it. It can’t hurt to inquire and since you’ve already established a relationship with her, even better!

The grant money goes toward tuition, books, materials, lab fees, classes, etc. There is no leftover money at all. The other expenses are for me to pay for like my own food, transportation, etc, which isn’t bad!

 

This is going to be dinner tonight! I’m thinking of cutting carrots into ‘carrot sticks’ as a substitute for fries, since I don’t want to be eating fries every time I eat a burger

Wow ChaCha! That is so awesome! I remember you saying your tuition was paid for, but you have the whole package! I suppose that really simplifies things for you. Wish things were that easy for me. Even when I had an assistantship, I still have to pay all the facility fees and books. Just tuition was waived.

When I go for further education, some clinics or hospitals will assist in some form of financial help, which I am grateful for. I don’t mind having to pay something to better myself. I’m very grateful that I have a boyfriend that will support me when that time comes.

Paying for your education is okay as long as you can realistically pay it back in the future with a well-paying job. I will be paying off my student debt for the rest of my life. It has become very clear that I have no hope of finding a good paying job. I have been looking for over a year now. I’m glad you didn’t fall into the same trap I did. Not that I went to school for medical assisting. But I have heard of people falling into a trap even with that. Some of the programs where I live charge an outrageous amount of money for tuition.

They run as soon as they realize I’m going to do it but now when I get a hold of them they don’t struggle and fight so much? Odd. I wonder why. So I wanted to share with you guys an interesting story I heard from a lady that I get my hay from. Apparently she had a potential customer call her to ask if the hay that they grew was on a farm that also raised livestock. The lady replied that they did not and the that the hay was grown on a farm which grew only vegetables. She then went on to ask the customer as to why they were inquiring. Apparently the customer had ordered some hay from a different company who grew their hay along side livestock. When the customer went to open up the newly delivered hay and inspect it they found half of a sheep lying in the middle of their hay…

Mean while…. BUGGER…. For years I have avoided Jury Duty because military personnel past and present were not elligible based on the being classed as government employees and ergo biased. (That’s the abridged reason anyway) two years ago they changed the eligibility criteria and today I got the letter. Have to wait till tomorrow to check the dates as no one else can do my job and with my luck I’ll end up with some sort of marathon case that goes on ad nauseum. Deferring doesn’t help as they just shuffled back up in 3 months. Short of getting myself involuntarily committed between now and then I can’t avoid it. Not that I don’t want to do my civic duty I just have so many commitments out of work with animals etc.

Well I just submitted my application to foster for Ohio House Rabbit Rescue! I wasn’t sure if it would be approved because they said small children in the home are a possible limitation, but the representative said that it should be fine since they already have a bunny and know how to behave around him. I am excited!

Tanlover-I talked to Alyssa about fostering for Rabbit Wranglers but she said I was too far away. So, I went the Ohio route. Didn’t think I would be approved since they are in Columbus, and I am about 3 hours away…but they don’t seem to be bothered by that. We’ll see what happens.

LBJ, the profession I am going into is changing their job requirements this July, which gets new grads ahead in the job game. The AAMA (American Association of MAs) is changing so that the people who are currently MA’s have to graduate from an accredited school (which mine is) and there are MA’s that are currently working who were trained on the job rather than receiving the accredited education. I don’t know why it is changing, but I guess they want all of the MAs to be well trained and graduates of an accredited institution.

That is the thing with all things, you don’t know if you’ll get a job with any major or AAS degree until you search. My boyfriend didn’t think he was going to get a job out of school and he is currently working. I am fortunate to live in a city that has an abundance of clinics and hospitals.

 

My class has been doing blood draws for 3 weeks and some of my classmates are still freaking out when they see the vial fill up with blood. It hurts when they try to get blood on me because their hand is shaking which causes the needle to move while in my arm .

Oh no! Now I’m worried about what I might find, as the farm we buy our hay from keeps pigs. Our rabbits don’t even like Oxbow thta much anymore, the last bag they had was brown and yucky so we stopped buying it. We haven’t had a chance to go to the farm, so we bought them a bag, and boy id they turn their noses up! They use to go bonkers for it, but this time around they just nibbled at it. 

On a different note, my mom ran into someone from my old elementary school, and they got to talking: turns out the school got a rabbit for their preschool  The lady who told my mom this knows we own rabbits, so she suggested that we come over and do a info session with the kids! I did something similar at the Humane Society’s camp this summer, but that was with ten year olds not preschoolers  I’m hoping to encourage the adults there to get him/her neutered, as I don’t think he/she has had a single vet check up! Classroom pets larger then a goldfish make me so mad, as they are rarely kept properly and not given the time out that they need. Anybody got any suggestions on how I should handle the discussion? I’m pretty confident in my ability to teach in an age friendly manner, but there’s probably tons of ideas I haven’t thought of.

Roberta – That’s funny because my husband did everything he could to get out of jury duty. It wasn’t too difficult though since he was enrolled in school at the time.

ChaCha – Yes, it is that way with anything. But at least you won’t have student loans looming over your head when you’re done. So not finding a job the very second you are done with school isn’t as urgent, I suppose you could say. You are very very lucky. I am concerned about this lady that I work with. She bought into the hype of those TV commercials. Anyway, she enrolled in the medical assisting program at Kaplan. Total cost to complete the degree is over $36,000. She may have gotten some grants with that, but she is still going to owe a lot in loans. It just doesn’t seem very wise (financially) considering the starting wages around here.

Roberta I’m surprised you get drawn up again in three months! Have you tried writing them a letter to let you get out of jury duty? Maybe writing that there is no one to replace at your job or something like that? My bf’s mom writes letter for her boss to get out of jury duty all the time. Citing “religious” and “biased” viewpoints as to a reason as to why he would not be good to have on a jury. I know it may seem like cheating…

Snowytoshi have you tried getting hay from somewhere online or at a local feedstore? BB sells great hay that is nice and fresh. And KMS and Sierra is great. I found that Oxbow is not quality hay. I end up throwing out money and hay when I buy it. Buying hay in bulk really helps with saving money.

Skipper’s Mama: my rabbits use to love Oxbow, but it got to expensive (almost $10 a bag!) so now we buy a bale from a farm. LBJ, my former friend did the Kaplan program for Medical Assisting and is now $30,000 in debt. The community college I am going to offers it for $10,000 or less. I don’t trust many online schools as some are for profit and are diploma mills. I’m actually going to search for jobs before I am done with school. My brother is getting married next year and I’m part of the wedding party, so I will be actively searching soon.

Ouch. The bag of Timothy hay that I got is a bit dusty and giving me allergies. So I have to keep the bag out of my room at night. I’m sneezing and have a slightly swollen/painful eyelid.

Jury Duty in Australia is pretty much NO ESCAPE these days. As I said before having been Ex Military I was exempt under the government employees clause.
It’s not that I mind doing it but there are other issues and I am finding that less than 24 hrs after receiving the summons the anxiety and and depression I have struggled with for the last decade and more is raising it’s ugly head. I am back to fully functioning without need for medication and can actually accelerate my car to above 80 KPH, I went for 2 years unable to accelerate beyond 40 KPH without getting violently ill and stamping on the brakes. So anything that resembles a relapse or might cause a relapse will not be tolerated. I am going to see my doctor next week with a letter from the psychologist that managed my anxiety when it was first diagnosed. Just the prospect of trying to drive into the city and find parking is making me physically ill. Don’t get me started on public transport, they remodelled the train station so the platform is 3 stories underground and travelling down the extremely steep glass sided escalator does nothing for anxiety fuelled vertigo. They had to physically prize me off the hand rails where I had collapsed in a sobbing heap.

ChaCha – Exactly! Places like that are so evil. They charge students way more money for something they could easily go to a community college for. I just don’t understand it. These for-profit schools prey upon unsuspecting people. Half the time they didn’t even earn their accreditation either. They simply buy out another school that already has one. That is what happened with the one that is here. It kinda makes me angry. You are so smart to have done some research first and you got into a program where you won’t have to pay anything. =)

Speaking of school.. Ugh. I am having a lot of difficulty focusing on stuff. I am told I need to come up with a new topic. I was given a few names of authors. I can’t seem to find any journal articles, but perhaps I am not searching using the right keywords. I picked up some books, but when I try looking over the information inside my eyes start to glaze over. It is difficult to explain, but I simply become overwhelmed even trying to read this stuff. I don’t know what to do.

So I had an interesting day today. I ordered a jacket on sale, all sales were supposed to be final since everything was really cheap. Well the jacket came today and one of the drawstrings was completely missing. I asked if I could return it and they said it was fine since it was defective. I didn’t receive my return label (email), so I contacted them again. They said they decided there was no reason for me to send the jacket back. So.. they are going to refund what I paid, but I get to keep the jacket! =D

I am also finding a little bit of direction with my thesis. Well maybe. Does anyone know anything about benefits-based management? In parks and recreation, I mean. LOL

Happy Australia Day to the other Aussie Members… Piglet gets his hair cut tomorrow and not a day too soon as Mother Nature postponed last weeks heat wave till this coming week. Poor little man is already miserable with is long coat… I am going to prepare an area in the sunroom so they can have a bun500 day too. Until they are all fixed I can’t give them free range and I know this miss doing zoomies. I have covered the new sofa bed I got as part of my birthday present for being OLD, so as long as they don’t have a pee fest on it we should be good.

LBJ… Excellent score on the Jacket… I love a bargain.  On the thesis are you allowed to use international projects. Our mining and resources sector is doing some interesting work with conservation and restoration.

Also I just picked 4 beautiful figs from the tree by the back door…. Can bunnies have figs ?? If not they are going on the fruit platter for the Long Weekend Breakfast BBQ we are having on Monday with the neighbours. We set tables up under one of our carports and bring out the BBQ’s or in this instance fleet of electric fry pans for scrambled eggs etc and basically have a good time and eat lots of food.

We have a bunny romp every Saturday and today afterwards I was waiting for my BF to come pick me up. So I was walking from cage to cage petting and talking to the bunnies as the place was closing down and I realized a good half the buns had no hay! As it was obvious the buns were done for the night, I found someone and asked them to show me where the hay was so I could give the bunnies hay. The girl I asked said she was always trying to get the staff to realize that the bunnies constantly need hay. And was really glad I noticed. She told me where to go and I got all the bunnies heaping piles of hay, just in case no one looked for a day or two. UGH! I’m going to have to make a point to check every time I go in now.

Australia Day was originally called Foundation Day to celebrate the arrival of the first fleet and settlement in Port Jackson. In 1937(I think) they unified the holiday as it had previously been celebrated on different dates in each state. These days it is more a celebration of the Australian Spirit and encompasses the history of our indigenous people as well as the contributions of those who have settled here. There are still protests from some curmudgeons and there is a movement among some recent arrivals to change it to Citizens day… Personally I have a suggestion for those that have come to our country and are opposed to celebrating it to the point of removing our countries name from its own celebration.
There are many organized events all over and nationalization ceremonies where many new Australians are sworn in as citizens.

We’ve had almost constant rain since Saturday afternoon and wind, thankfully we’ve only suffered minor flooding locally but last night the damaging winds came through. In other news, there is a job fair at school that is actually (for once!) for people in my area of interest. I hate going to those other job fairs because they have nothing for me. So I was thinking of popping in. It’s this coming Wednesday. I don’t know if I should dress nicely or not. Employees at these places don’t usually dress nicely. I don’t want to look weird. Oh well, I suppose it doesn’t matter. I always have such terrible luck making first impressions anyway.

These days things are changing and the power suit is a thing of the past (unless you’re a lawyer). If you can pull together an outfit you feel good in you will find that your stature and bearing will do half the work for you as you will be feeling relaxed and confident. You need to be “comfortable in your own skin”, granted not so comfortable that you look like you’re ready for a nap on the couch. Your favourite pair of trousers (be it jeans, chino’s or whatever) team them with your favourite cammy, an over shirt of a vest and a jacket you feel makes you look comfortable but in charge, and some great accessories. Trust me it makes a much better impact than someone who is dressed to impress and falling short becuase they are oozing self doubt.
You can find the right job and nail it, you just have to start believing in yourself.

This past Friday was mine & my boyfriend’s 3 year anniversary so he took me horseback riding! Was a lot of fun. And since paying for horseback riding, we got to go to the petting zoo for free. They had baby bunnies for sale My boyfriend was almost going to get me one but I had to beg him not to! Don’t have the room or money for 2 bunnies and my mom would be so mad We went on to feed and pet some goats and ponies, and then got to more bunnies! They were adults but poorly cared for They were all in their own cages, outdoors in Texas heat (they at least had a lot of shade though). probably about 15 bunnies. Cages were raised off the ground, wired bottoms only SOME of them had a ceramic tile to get away from the wire, the water provided was just a pipe that is on the wall that has a tiny spicket for them to drink from, only some of them had hay. It made me so sad to see!

Probably going to search around to see if there’s anywhere it could be reported. But I don’t know how concerned my city is about bunnies =/ Don’t think they would do a whole lot about it. But it’s worth a try!

 Yesterday in class, we learned capillary punctures! I was taught how to do a cholesterol test, glucose, iron levels, etc. My cholesterol has gone down quite a bit, and my iron levels are excellent I feel proud of what I have accomplished in terms of healthy eating.

 

 

Washington has been very cold.. so that means soup tastes delicious.

 

I made taco soup for the first time (vegetarian of course) with white beans, pinto beans, and black beans. The soup is so delicious, filling, and doesn’t cause bloating

I wouldn’t think so… Tell them that’s what you intend to do perhaps. When you wrap up talking with them say you’ll send your cv thru that arvo and that you’ll put your name in subject line. Even the fairs name plus your name so they make connection later that its someone they’ve met that day. You could ask for a confirmation email that they’ve received yours.
I would let them know you intended all along to stick with electronic version of your cv.

Okay so I went. I talked to a few different people. Most of them weren’t what I was looking for or they were too far away. But I talked to them anyway. I did approach one table that was for a place I had applied at awhile back. The two guys standing there were the two of the three people who interviewed me. Awkward. They gave me information for the next internship they will have available this spring. Not sure if I should try applying for it or not. =\

ChaCha – That soup looks good, but I can’t eat a lot of beans.

It snowed last night. The weatherman said up to an inch. I woke up this morning and it was 5 inches. Stupid weatherman. I was not happy having to shovel my car out all by myself.

Today we’ve had a bit of a scare, our eldest dog, Pepper, went missing. We normally let him outside to do his business, and he walks right back up to the house once he’s finished. Well, he wandered off (Of course the time I forget to put his collar on, he goes wandering off.) and apparently he went up past a bar in town (Which is about 5 blocks up the street.) and was almost hit by 5 different cars, until this girl took him in, gave him a bath, and actually clipped his face (He probably got burs on his face, he gets into the bur bushes occasionally.) Almost 20 different family members posted it on facebook and the girl who found him brought him about an hour after we posted everything. I could have given her a huge hug. I’ve had Pepper for almost 7 years now, and I don’t know what we’d do without him. He’s currently curled up on my lap (Normally Lucy’s spot, so she’s laying beside me and pouting) I was worried out of my mind, I ended up walking around town looking for him in the freezing cold; hoping that he wasn’t in the cold too. I was bundled up and shivering, and he’s got really thin fur due to a skin allergy, so he technically had less on than me. So this taught me that he’s not as easily trusted as we thought. I’m just glad he’s back though.
