New year, new chat thread!

 

So, any good new year’s resolutions out there?

I decided no resolutions this year. They require too much work :p

But I have started a new job search! I’m rather excited about getting a new job.

I ended 2013 sick as a dog. Been bed ridden for the past three days and for New Year’s Eve I was sleeping by 9:30pm. But my husband was kind enough to wake me up at midnight with a New Years kiss. And then I quickly fell back asleep after my moment of pure fear from someone yanking me out if mid sleep to kiss me lol! but today was my first good day again lol finally got to let the buns out to enjoy some free time. Poor fellas haven’t had much out time the past few months. I’m feeling quite guilty. But with the Christmas season behind us, things will finally get back to normal

My birthday is this month and we’ve managed to save quite a bit to get me a car! But I want to wait a little later in the year to get a car. But it’ll be my late birthday present

I keep thinking about the minister’s speech at my college graduation (I went to a religious school for undergrad). Note this was over 3 years ago. Essentially, he said that the future isn’t written yet and we all have been given a pen. We should use those pens to write a story for ourselves and make a lasting impression on this world. Yep, I can’t say I have accomplished much. Sounds weird, but I really do want to make a difference. I just don’t know where to start. Perhaps that should be a new year’s resolution. What do you think?

 

Sorry to hear you were sick for NYE. 

My husband has had a terrible cough for a few days now and neither one of us gets much sleep. We ended up not doing anything last night, even after we got some special food to make at home (still haven’t made it because he didn’t feel well).

No resolutions for me really. I started a new job a couple months ago and it’s been going really well. I enjoy it a lot and the environment is just fabulous. I also ended 2013 sick! It seems to be going around. :/

Congrats on the car NBO! Our second car broke down this last year and we were sharing one which was fine when I wasn’t working but now it’s becoming a bit more of a nuisance. Car shopping for me soon! What kind of car are you wanting?

I’m hoping to find a good part-time job this year. I’m also hoping to do more things with my bun! Hopefully we will work on some tricks, and we are working on a few house renovations to make her more comfortable.

I thinking of getting something that is gas efficient but still says that I’m young so something that looks a little sporty. But I hate cars that look real sporty at the same time so haha we only have about 10k saved up for one so it’ll be a used car. So uh, reliable is most important and I just won’t know what kinda car I’ll be getting until I find it! When we drive through town and I see a car that looks like something I wouldn’t mind driving I always point it out to my husband. Since he’s the one who knows car names and such :p if I’m patient enough I’d be able to get a new car. Put enough money down and the car payments are dirt cheap. That’s what we did with the equinox. Put 20 down and the monthly payments were less than $100. But at the same time, I don’t want to see all that money disappear and I find myself thinking ‘we’ve shared the equinox for the past 3 years no problem, why get a car?’ Lol I can be so stingy with spending money, hence why I’m still wearing clothes from high school :p

I need to stop shopping for clothes. and handbags. and shoes. and…well you get it. I have 4 closets. It is sad really. I think I need to stop teaching and become a personal shopper. Oh how I wish I lived in a big city so I could make that happen. Shopping for other people is so much more fun. Plus then I’m not spending my money or taking up my closet space. LOL. Sad. really Sad. I think this is one of the reasons I don’t have kids. One, I would need to give up closet space and two, I would just over shop for them too. Ha! Good thing rabbits don’t wear clothes. ha!

I got a 2001 VW Beetle. Great on gas, very cute. If you want something kind of different, that’s a good choice. In general, I think coups look a lot more sporty and young than fourdoors, and the smaller cars are usually more gas-efficient. Unless you’re planning on having children soon (or already have them) I think that’s a good way to go. Remember that gas miliage (lower) is more important than how old the car is. So if you find a car that’s old, but maybe the previous owner was an 80 year old lady who drove it to church and back and nowhere else so it’s got low miles, you can get a really good deal. Don’t rush it! Take your time. Finding a car for me takes months lol.

Kbana, you’re a teacher? I’m thinking about going back to school and becoming a teacher…

Zombie-Sue, Yes, I’ve been teaching elementary school for 10 years. I have taught both 1st and 4th grades. I love the children and 4th grade is really a perfect age group for me. Are you in the states or somewhere else? The teaching situation in IL is horrific at the moment. My colleagues and I were just having a discussion about how the profession has changed in such a short amount of time. I know other states aren’t struggling as much as we are, but sadly, nationally, the perspective on teachers and teaching has shifted dramatically for the worse in the last few years. There is nothing like it though and I encourage you to spend some time in classrooms if you can. Do you know anyone who teaches that you would be able to shadow for a few days? That would be a great way to get a better feel if this profession is something you want to get into. I only say this, because like everything else in life, you never truly know what something will be like until you in the midst of it. I’m not trying to discourage you in any way. It is truly one of the most rewarding things ever. I just wish someone had given me this advice so I could have been more realistic about what teaching is really like. Maybe my first few years would not have been such a rude awakening. I loved my student teaching experience, but looking back, my cooperating teacher really didn’t let go a ton so I didn’t get a full idea of what it was like to run my own room until I was fully teaching on my own. This is why when I have student teachers I tend to throw them into the deep end quite quickly. LOL. The general consensus I hear from student teachers is that schooling doesn’t really prepare them for the realities of running a room. So as much “field time” you can get the better. Also, there are many programs that can allow you to earn your masters degree in teaching (MAT) without having to go through several years of schooling. My program was 15 months and was specially designed for people who were switching professions and had a bachelor’s degree in something other than education. Ok, novel over now. LOL. I’m in the states, yes ma’am. My friend just got a job (high school English) in Chicago lol. I want to talk to an adviser before I quit my full time job and take the plunge. I also work with a girl who got all the way through school, went to student teaching, and failed that. I guess it’s really common to get really far and then not be able to put the theories into practice.

What I’d really like to do though is ESL…. I think.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I’m not in IL lol. I’m in Des Moines. I don’t want to work in a state where I have to pay into social security but can’t receive it if I can help it.

You should have a far better chance in getting into a position if you go ESL. Plus Iowa is an a better situation than IL so that is good start! I know a few people who have gone through student teaching and then have decided that it isn’t for them for sure. But that is why I say that it is good to get into classrooms before starting a program. I have been thinking about transitioning to high school for a little while. Only because I ultimately want to teach art. We shall see.

So we finally moved the bunnies into our tiny spare bedroom. They’ve finally graduated in 4 days it’ll be Sally’s one year gotcha anniversary so I think this is a great early birthday present. All that’s in there right now is their open cage and the maze haven though lol not much else can fit in that small room. We’re still keeping the cage though and just having it open and using it as their bathroom and feeding/watering area

They looked somewhat confused and kept running back to the kitchen where their cage used to be. We put the baby gate up and locked em in there. Probably stay like that for a few days before letting them out that way they’ll know that’s where their cage is at and it’s staying there lol I can hear them running around playing in the maze haven as I type this though so I don’t think they’re having much fuss about the changes :p

Wow, lot’s of new year’s resolutions! Sounds like a lot of people didn’t do too bad in 2013. Wish I could say the same! LOL I suppose 2013 wasn’t horrible, but I certainly could have done better.

Is it cold for everyone else? The high today was like 12F or something, but the windchill was below zero. I knew it was cold because my hands kept getting stuck on things when trying to do waters outside. I really don’t like winter.

Omg it has snowed so much! I was so afraid driving home from work because it stuck to the street and I’m not used to driving in snow and I was sliding freaking everywhere on the highway! To me it’s a lot of snow when really it’s not to every one else. But I’m from central Texas so this was the first time I’ve ever had to drive in snow. Usually when it snowed here the passed few times the highway was always still good. But not this time so yeah, freaked me out lol. I will say Brevin LOVES it! He was like a wild child when I let him outside.

I drove all the way home (10 – 15 minutes) and the little light that tells me that the engine is cold didn’t go off until I parked again.

If you want a car that goes good in the snow, learn manual transmission lol it makes a big difference!

We have a Chevy equinox. Thought those would be pretty good since they are heavier :p when I do get me a new car if there’s snow in the forecast, I’ll be driving the SUV! :p

Omg high of 7?! Good golly! Its gonna be a high of 20 and low of 9 tomorrow with a windchill below 0. I think I should quit living in denial that I’m not in a southern state anymore and actually purchase winter clothes lol

My mom has an equinox. My dad complains because it has a 4 cylinder engine. Being such a big vehicle, it really should have like a 6 cylinder or something.

They said a high of 2 on Monday. Glad I’m not working in that! Today was bad enough.

Yes, we had windchill warnings today and between New Years Eve, yesterday and today we got 15 inches of snow! Ugh. Winter needs to be over already.

Monkeybun, I dabbled in handmade jewelry as well for a while and would host jewelry parties, take custom orders and such. I needed to put my art degree to use LOL! In the end, I just didn’t have the man power or the time to really pull it off long term. What kind of jewelry do you make? Have any pics?

I work at a bead shop here, and teach classes on some stuff. It’s hard leaving work without getting something! lol. 

I did a recent piece custom for someone, with wire and lapis lazuli. Was a fun project!

Panny Pants is going really well. Her coat is now soft and glossy and the hair is growing on her back where she pulled it from her back for the nest (being so malnourished she still doesn’t have a dewlap) I was worried the first few days as she was not producing milk but after a few huge feeds of the all you can eat bunny buffet that was resolved too…. Now she is the perfect Mummy Milkbar and almost willing to feed on demand, Currently she is having some alone time to play and nosh, bubs are sleeping as they were fed before she had her afternoon salad.

AND if any one who is not aware of the history see’s this I AM NOT A BREEDER !!! Pandora is a rescue rabbit abandoned in a school yard and left to starve and survive the Australian Summer, pregnant, dehydrated, malnourished and neglected….. Breeding or dumping is NOT acceptable especially when you see little girls like Panny.

I finally remodeled the bargain cage I bought last year. Necessity is not only the Mother of invention it is really good at forcing priorities too.

Does anyone have a Hoover/vacuum that doesn’t get clogged up when hoovering hay and bunny pellets?! Mine gets blocked EVERY TIME
I have a wooden floor so I can sweep but a Hoover would be better… I don’t know how you guys with buns on carpets manage!
There must be a Hoover out there that can cope with hay and droppings… Anyone??

Tessie – What about a shop vac? They tend to have more powerful suction. Since you have wood floors, it wouldn’t be difficult to use the hose with an attachment. Might need something that won’t scratch the floor though.

I second the shop vac idea! I always go in with that first and then go in with a vacuum otherwise the vacuum will just clog.

I’m seriously hoping that 2014 will be better than last year. The only bright spot of 2013 was getting Ox.

Tessie-The other vac I have found that works well is the shark pet vac. I use it to clean up the stray poos and hay in my guinea pigs cages every day.

Ugh, I’m so annoyed right now. More than annoyed. I don’t know how to describe it.

We had to go to an anniversary party last night. These were my husband’s family, the side that we don’t see very much of. I only knew a few people there that were outside my husband’s immediate family. Well anyway, my mother-in-law said some things that were rather hurtful. I don’t think she knew I could hear her. She was talking to someone while holding onto my nephew. She pointed to my brother-in-law and said that he was her oldest son and this was his son. Then she pointed to my niece and said she was his daughter. Then she pointed to my husband and said he was her other son and…….. they have rabbits. o_O Keep in mind that she was saying this in a very sarcastic tone and she got a good laugh out of this person. She made no mention of me that I could hear. Wow, it sure is nice to know what an embarrassment my husband and I are. Is she really that ashamed of us?

If she has a pet, tell her that you love your rabbits just like she loves her pet and you don’t think you should be looked down apon because chose to care for a unique pet.

When my Bella passed, I had a close friend that told me “Its just a rabbit, why don’t you just get a new one?” This person owns a cat, a dog, and a mouse. I asked her how she would feel if her dog died, I said that was the same way I felt about my rabbit. Just because it’s a smaller pet, doesn’t mean I love her any less. That is like loving a 7 foot person more than you love a 4 foot person. No fair.

No, my in-laws don’t have any pets. I don’t think it would really matter what kind of pets we have though. They aren’t real grandchildren like the ones my brother-in-law has provided her. I think she was embarrassed because she was having to point out her childless son.

I can’t believe someone would say that to you about Bella. Especially considering they had pets of their own.

LBJ10- I’m sure it was an oversight. I suspect that if you brought it up to her, she’d be horrified that she’d been so insensitive.

My mother-in-law drives me crazy with the grandchildren instance too. She’ll say things like “when you have kids…” even though I’ve told her clearly we WON’T.

I think you should say something, or your husband should. There’s no sense in letting things simmer between family, you should be able to resolve conflicts.

Ugh! I am so sick of the whole pets vs “real” kids debate. I get it all the time. I hate it because people always say, “but you’re a teacher, why don’t you like kids?” Why should the fact that I don’t want kids of my own have anything to do with whether I like them or not? I love kids! Hello, teacher here! I just like to come home to a childless house, especially after being with kids all day. Or, if I had kids I would “understand.” Um, I do understand. I spend my life studying children and what they need, this is why I choose not to take on that responsibility. Goodness LB, I feel your pain. What does your husband say? Mine doesn’t really care what anyone thinks. He doesn’t tend to let people bother him. It is harder for me though, maybe because I am the woman and people look at it more like my decision rather than a joint one since I’m the one actually capable of bearing children.

I spoke with my husband about it. He says she tends to act that way towards that side of his family (technically her in-laws) because they make her feel uncomfortable. Some of this has to do with the fact that my husband’s dad married outside of his ethnic group. I know, really stupid, but apparently this has caused tension with some people from that side of the family. So he thinks she said the things she did because she was trying to appear worthy to them.

Kbana – Oh, I know! I hate it when people say stuff like that. I have very mixed feelings about having kids of my own bad enough as it is. But we are just not in a financial situation where we could even seriously consider it. I think most people don’t understand that because they have absolutely no clue how poor we are. LOL

I think that most people don’t understand that because most people who can’t afford kids have them anyway. When I told my mother-in-law this, she said “If you wait until you can afford kids, you will NEVER have them.”
and I’m like yeah, that sounds exactly like something a woman who had four kids she couldn’t afford would say.

Sorry, just sometimes my in-laws make me mad too. Like, for example, there have been MANY Christmases where they haven’t gotten my husband, their oldest, anything at all. That makes me so angry. I’m not trying to be greedy, but she could at least scribble on a card for us. this has kind of turned into venting LOL

Seriously though, I don’t think it is fair to intentionally bring children into the world when you can’t afford to care for them. To me, that is being insanely selfish. I worry about being able to take care of my pets sometimes, I just can’t imagine it being a child. Hopefully that makes sense, I don’t want anyone sending me hate mail. LOL

I wouldn’t say she is a bully. She just feels an urge to dodge negative attention, even if it is at the expense of others.

I think it is super smart to know where you are financially. Just like us, though we may be able to afford it financially, we can’t afford it mentally or emotionally. We aren’t the right couple for children and rather than bring children into a situation that isn’t right for them, we are choosing to not have them. People who choose to wait have their reasons for doing so. I think it is anything but selfish. You are actually thinking about the welfare of children and making a smart decision and what is right for you. No hate mail here

ZS, oh bother. Doesn’t that just kill you? People say you’re never ready. In my mind, then why have them if you’re not ready? Just because it is the next step? Goodness.

That’s what bullies do, they solve their discomfort by putting down others. Maybe she’s not a bully usually, but she was the other day!

IMHO, “affording children” is a lot.. I don’t know, deeper than just feeding and clothing them, too, and a lot of people don’t THINK about that. They might, for example, need braces someday. Or they might have a really expensive disability, you just never know.

I was discussing my plans to adopt someday (looong ways away) with a coworker and she said “Why would you want to do that when you could have your own?” obviously, they would still be my own if I adopted them, and second, because the idea of being pregnant does not appeal to me qqqqqqqqqqqqq

What a lovely community here! I’ve just gotten my bun Brenna about a month and a half ago so am new to the bunny forums. Nice to see such awesome people on here (not that I’m surprised) and always love seeing fellow Iowans too! (Ames for me).

Boring resolutions for me this year…fitness, money, the usual.

I’m bored at work so I decided to join the chat. lol!! I think I’ve bored the ears off most of my friends with my bunny stories so this is the only place where people can understand my bunny love.
I recently visted a friend who just purchase a mini lop (fixed male). I didn’t realize what an uproar this visit would cause when I got home!! Ziggy (intact male dwarf mix) was NOT impressed I smelled of another bun. He was chinning and pooping around my shoes and bag to reclaim them as his. Then he started to chin me and lick my clothing. After he was all cuddly and wanted head rubs (finally got to hear him “purr”!!!). Such a man, make him jealous so he knows how good he has it at home. lol!!

New years resolutions – 

1. fit into all my old clothes again

2. but not obsess about not being able to fit into my old clothes

3. actually do my work for dissertation so I can get it over with

4. Find time to care and bond with all of my creatures, 7 rabbits, 2 parrotlets, 1 hedgehog, 1 pony, 2 little dachshunds and coming soon one mini donkey as a pasture mate for said pony

5. Get to know everyone and learn as much as possible from bb.com about rabbits

It’s really nice to read about everyone and their lives and experiences with rabbits. I love that everyone here has learned so much from caring for rabbits as I have. My rabbits teach me something new about life almost every day. I think what amazes me the most is their ability to find joy, in the moment, every day, relentlessly, even in the mundane little things. They are truly an inspiration to me.

@LBJ: These sort of things always happen at family gatherings. One of my uncles has 3 adult children, each with their own family and kids now. At Thanksgiving he was chatting with me about how blessed he was to have TWO successful children. He said that because two of which are doctors, while the 3rd is only a paralegal lol.

@marshmallow: Wow you’ve got a whole zoo there! I’ve got enough to handle with just one bun lol. Also try not to stress out about losing weight. Once Jan is over all of those gym and diet ads will go away. Just resolve to have a healthy, active, and balanced lifestyle. I ended up losing +20 lbs last year because I suddenly was interested in working out. Which got me to try out yoga and various fitness classes. Now I can’t imagine not being active lol

OH MY GOD IT IS SO COLD ISN’T IT. The whole Metro (Des Moines, WDM, Altoona, Ankeny, Johnston, DCM, the whoooooole metro) canceled school today and many will tomorrow too.

It’s not just Iowa. I’m in Canada and we are having the coldest winter since 1893!! -51 when I woke up this morning! Sorry don’t know what that is in F. But it’s freaking cold!!! On NYE we kept boiling water and throwing it in the air outside. Turns to snow instantly. lol!!! Yes, lame. I know. But you gonna find some way to enjoy it!

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words! I think I just needed to vent about my frustrations. I know my husband gets really annoyed with my mom as well. He has good reason to be though.

It was so cold here today! I really didn’t want to go outside, but I had to get rabbit food and pick up Wooly’s refill from the vet. Sadly, none of that could have waited another day. It will be better tomorrow. We are supposed to make it to 30F. I imagine it will still be pretty cold in the morning though since the arctic air has to push out of here yet.

No, actually, her problem is kind of the opposite. She tends to make molehills out of mountains. I don’t talk about this a whole lot, but I was in a NASTY accident when I was young while the neighbor should have been watching me. It’s caused problems to this day, and she just DOESN’T GET IT, and no one was punished for it like they should have been.

My mother-in-law is extremely sweet too, Monkeybun. I love her to pieces. She’s also annoying. LOL. In fact, I think it’s the fact that she’s so sweet that makes her so annoying. Like, how she can’t seem to cut the umbilical cord for instance =/ You can have my annoying MIL and mom and my cold weather Just kidding. Except about the cold weather QQ

Like, right in the middle of boding my trio, I got way sick, got better, and then it snowed like 200 feet and my room mate’s car died behind mine, So I had to help shovel him out and then push it up the driveway before I could go to work for 11 hours and I just undid all the progress I’d made and got super sick again. I got to experience my first snow earlier this week! I was super excited… At first. We got 6 inches. I thought it was cool until I had to drive in it. They never plowed my neighborhood and after a couple days the snow got so packed down it was just ice and I had to drive like 5 Mohawk to prevent from sliding everywhere. And then on the highway they didn’t plow until the next day and when they did they didn’t really do the turning lanes or the middle of the intersections. Cars kept getting stuck. I had a SUV so I was able to get through it but it was freaky sliding :/ soooo, yeah, snow is over rated haha

Ugh, I keep asking myself why I live in the midwest. This is our second day off of school (we were supposed to go back Monday) since the temps are -50 with the windchill. I can’t even get the dog to go outside and potty! Plus, we’re stuck inside since cars don’t start well in this weather outside the garage so it isn’t like we could go anywhere. NBO, driving in the snow is the worst! And this year due to budget cuts or something they just aren’t taking care of the roads like they should. My commute is an hour to and from work so I’m glad I didn’t have to go in these last two days, even if I am going a bit stir crazy. I know the parents of my students are probably going mad right now ha ha! At least I don’t have to deal with bored kids too! I want to move south so badly!!

I went to the Pet Shop to buy some toys for the bunnies, and normally when I go and look at the rabbits there I’m left heartbroken, but today the 2 they had in were actually binkying in their cages :3 Whilst their set up still isn’t great it’s nice to see that they can still find some pleasures in life!

I don’t even mind driving in the snow so much as I hate OTHER people driving in the snow. Okay, I know that there aren’t a lot of people moving from warmer climates to Des Moines, IA so every time I drive by 459305247 accidents I’m like, what, did you tards FORGET? It never fails-either someone thinks it’s still appropriate to FLY down a busy street, or people will panic and go waaaaay too slow (and simultaneously pay no attention to what they’re doing, funny how that works out)

Finally warmer tomorrow    I can let Cotton out for a run.  I am sick n tired of the cold.   For a week now.  The 20s at nite.  40s during the day. 

AND we have rats in the living room.  Mom is putting poison out under the recliner at nite.  During the day i pick it up in case Cotton gets loose. 

Scares me to death if he gets loose n eats it.  She has had rats before and a snake.  They are hibernating right now tho.  I want to get outta here before something happens to Cotton   Come on jan 24.  We fly out on 24 with Cotton in the cabin with me.  His cabin carrier came in today.  Isn’t as small as I thought but is within the measurements required by airline.

Cotton sleeps in my bedroom with me so I don’t worry about rats bothering him at nite.  They  come at nite under the recliner. HE gets revolution too for fleas etc. During the day he is in the living room in his xpen.  The rats aren’t to be seen or heard or pooped from during the day just poop at nite.  Oh I hate this.

Gosh he is trashing his phonebook.   Having a blast.  Bedtime Cotton Boo.  Phonebook will be there tomorrow if not I have another one for you. I brought him 3.   lol. 

OH NOOOO!!!!!!    I forgot I laid my phone down in the xpen with us,   I heard funny chewing noise.  Little fuzz himself just chewed almost all the rubber off the bottom of my phone case.  Good thing the sides are plastic.  I will need a new one before too long I keep forgetting it.  Cotton !!!!

Anyone know some good remedies to remove lots of static electricity out of carpets that is bun friendly? We moved the buns into their very own bunny room and the poor fellas are battling A LOT of static electricity! When I walk into the room, Sally runs up to me and when her nose touches me it shocks us both. And when I’m petting them their fur stands up. But lots of little shocks while we are all interacting with one another. I feel bad haha DOesn’t help that since moving them into their own room I feel the need to vacuum every day, sometimes twice. It’s no longer a cage anymore, but a room. And a room must stay tidy at all times. It’s just the way my mind works. So I’m in there multiple times a day tidying up. Because I hate walking by the bedroom and seeing little stick crumbs from them chewing the willow sticks or the phone book shredded again… And I just have to vacuum because Sally is shedding like always and the color carpet shows it VERY WELL. and the vacuum can’t pick it up! the carpet is too short and. It’s really bothering me :/

NBO – You could put a little humidifier in their room. I imagine you have the humidity turned down since it has been so cold though. We had to turn ours WAY down because the windows were sweating so bad on the inside that I had a few puddles on the floor from them.

A quick Google search said you can use vinegar or vinegar and baking soda (mix 6:1). Not sure if you want to spray that all over your carpet though. =\

If it’s getting staticy, especially when I am trying to groom, I rub my hands on a dryer sheet before I start petting and brushing. You don’t want to get a lot of the chemicals on them, but a little is harmless.

Well today was a good day for cotton.  I told Mom why I didn’t let him run outside yesterday.  Then I thought.  I can call animal control there is a leash law.  Walked down there and got their address.  The lady looked outside the window and made the dog go inside. 

The dogs stayed laying on the street in front of their house after I chased them off from the street in front of our house. I just shout go home and when I raise the broom in the air they run home. 

Cotton had a good time  I have to be careful and not let him get to winded. He is  6 years old after all.  And bunnies wear themselves out fast.  I have lost 20 lbs. When I get to florida I may continue to let him run outside I can stand to lose more weight.  Cotton is having fun and helping me lose weight lol.

Hmmm interesting lol I wonder how long the vinegar smell will take dissipate? And if I’d have to spray often lol when I was growing up I remember my mom cleaned the carpets with vinegar added to the cleaning solution to rid my brothers room of urine from a puppy that peed all up in there. It smelt terrible but it did work. I don’t remember how long it took to rid the vinegar stench though. They don’t have static when in the rest of the carpeted house. It’s just that room. I think it’s just that type of carpet or something. Just walking in there the hair on my arms stick straight up haha.

I’m so freaking tired! And I’m annoyed. We are doing inventory at my retail job. I was scheduled Friday night and did not get home until 11pm that night. I had to come in Saturday morning to do my usual stuff. Then Saturday night, I was “asked” if I could come do inventory again. When I say “asked” they pretty much just assumed I would come. We were there pretty late, like after midnight. Then I had to come in this morning to do my usual stuff. At this point, I’m pretty cranky. LOL Well I’m scheduled to do inventory tonight and my manager called not even an hour after I got home this afternoon. She wanted to know if I could come early. I’m working 2 split shifts in a row and she wants me to come in early tonight? AGH! I told her I didn’t know if I could, but I would come early if I could. She said okay and hung up on me. o_O

I wanted the extra hours, but I’m tired and I have no time to eat anything at a reasonable hour. =\

Well I still didn’t get to do the room today. I’ve been couch ridden because when I stand up I’m cursed with so much pain in my abdomen that it makes me drop back down. And then crying makes the pain worse so I cry because I’m crying lol. If I stay laying down though I’m good to go and barely feel any pain. Just slight little shoots. *sigh* maybe tomorrow. But for now, I’m stuck laying down lol don’t know what on earth I’m going to do when I have to get up to use the restroom… Maybe crawl, idk lol hopefully Advil will kick in soon and I start feeling better. If it ain’t one thing it’s another! It’s annoying because the pain is almost completely gone when laying down and so After awhile I decide I’ll try and get up and then I’m back to square one because of the pain.

I don’t know the cause but I’m thinking it was a cyst that ruptured or something. I was debating on if the act of getting up and going to the ER only for them to give me meds and go home would be worth all he pain it would’ve taken to do it.

Anyhoo, I did up needing to use the restroom and I was able to make it to the bathroom on my feet but had to crawl back to the couch from the pain. But now, 7 hours later, I’m at least able to walk short distances. My tummy feels very sore and tender to the touch and if I keep hunched it’s really not as bad. The pain hurts if I straighten my back though. Tender right over the right ovary area. But I’m sore like everywhere lol luckily I’m off the next 5 days so I can just chill out and rest. I know I wouldn’t be able to stay on my feet to fulfill a shift lol. Maybe tomorrow I’ll call my doc though since I’d, maybe, be able to get in a car and handle the bumps of a drive. I just really have no faith they’d be able to do anything so eh, idk. Lol but I’m feeling better now.

Are you doing better today NBO? If not, I would see if you can get in to see a regular doctor today. One time my hip joint popped in and out. It caused swelling there, which put pressure on the nerve there. I had shooting pain all the way up my side and all the way down my leg. I don’t know if that is a possibility for you. I do remember being fine if I was lying down, but if I needed to walk around it was insanely painful.

OH NBO, I hope you start to feel better. When my close friend had her appendix out it presented itself as just pain with no other symptoms…might be worth checking out just in case. I know that the last thing you want to do is head to the doc just so they can send you home, but if it is something serious better safe than sorry? Anyway, I myself am home from work today. On my way to the chiropractor for the first time in weeks due to these unrelenting migraines. I’ve had them forever and this seems to be the only way to get relief but he is over an hour away and the roads here have sucked. Plus I just paid off my deductable and now that it is the new year I will need to start all over again. UGH! Three straight days with a migraine and here I go back again. Why do Drs have to be so expensive? Why can’t we all just be healthy? LOL

NBO – If it’s a cyst it’ll be lower abdomen, either side, right around the ovary. For me, when they burst, it hurts like crazy laying down helps and there is a slight cool sensation as the liquid spreads throughout my abdomen to be absorbed (doctor said that is what hurts the most, the liquid until it’s absorbed back into my body). It hurts for about a week and all they will give is pain pills and an antibiotic. Appendix will hurt on your left side, slightly higher. Gall stones will be a bit further up as well, forget which side though. If it’s not stopped hurting within a few days though, it might be something more serious. I get cysts popping a couple times a year, first one was so bad I couldn’t stand without wanting to cry it hurt so bad, but after that it wasn’t ever as bad.

Ooh, so it is. When my doctor tested it I guess they used this test since they pushed on my left side Though, then they also did a battery of tests and scans too.

Brevin is going in to get neutered tomorrow morning. Even though he is a dog, I’m very nervous! I look at his naive self. He’s having so much fun laying on his back holding his toy between his two paws and chewing on the squeaker. Man do I feel nipped by the clinic. First, they advertise the neuter for $59. But you HAVE to buy a cone and you HAVE to buy extra pain meds. but if you have no choice, then why not include the $ into the price of the neuter instead of advertising a price and then upon check in get bombarded withh all these hidden fees. Pretty misleading. Not only that but They said since he only has one teste it was an extra $40 no matter what. Even it was just RIGHT there. And an extra $90 if they have to make an incision in his abdomen. So I’m paying 99$ Guaranteed for his neuter. If they need to make an incision in his abdomen it’ll be $150. Yet their dog spays for the same sized dog is only $70. Why not just charge the cost you’d pay for a spay. It’s still an incision in the abdomen just like a spay! It makes no sense! Pretty upset I go in thinking I’ll only have to pay $59 and I leave knowing I’m almost out of $200. Just feeling quite cheated.

I am nervous hope this works out.  Nervous about layover of 1 hour.  Gotta run from arrival to departure to change flights.  Got screws in my back body jewelry Cotton microchipped i have his paperwork in my purse on his microchip   plus my meds to check in .    Hope that can be done and I don’t miss the flight.

Had a nice visit with aunt and uncle.   Uncle Paul looks a lot like my Dad.  Dad passed away about 13 years ago. 

I remember when I was about 13 and Dr. gave Mom wrong med she was allergic to.  She had to go into hospital.  I was alone.  Was scary. I couldn’t find Dad or my bros #.  Dad lived in Texas My bro in another town 

My Uncle Boo (Paul) lived in Westlake that I knew. Couldn’t find Boo in the phone book.  I called operator and she said you sure his name is Boo.  We have nicknames here in Louisiana and I never knew his real name til Dad passed.  Was so funny.  Was asking for Boo and his last name.  lol.   OH dear.  We laughed about that. 

Cotton gobbled all his greens up. He is relaxing.

OH dear.  Drama drama drama.  Mom was on my case about hubby.  We live in an apartment.  There are roaches.  Bugman comes every other month.  Sprays we see no dead roaches.  We buy Bengal bug spray  we see dead roaches.  Now tell me which is better.  Bugman isn’t working out too good.  This is the 3rd one we been thru. 

One month he sprays outside the apartments next month inside. Mom says you want to go back to that.  ETc etc etc. And all that clutter etc etc etc.  I got to learn not to let that get to me and come between hubby and I.  Guess Mom was in a bad mood yesterday. Usually she won’t say anything.  But oh she did yesterday. I want to respect my mom and not argue with her.  Not worth it anyways. The argueing. So I don’t.

She has rats last 3 years in the winter.  Mom has huge collection of cooking gadgets all over. Granted they are organized.  I am not a good organizer.  My son now he can organize. Our kitchen in the apartment is super small.  Hard not to be cluttered. Oh whatever. 

Just wanted to grype.  This too shall pass.  You know I am very grateful mom and Buddy are paying to send my stuff home.  What I need.  Then I send $ for my cd’s  fake jewelry photo albums and such.  Mom even wants to send my shampoo and shop vac. Plus my special mop and bathroom cleaning tool that is easy on my back. I am very thankful for that. 

She will sell my bike and the tv and the ceramics to reimburse for the $. Sounds fair.  I respect that and don’t want to argue with her. Just wish she wouldn’t think hubby will be mean when I get home.  He said where are you getting that. I am not that way.  Sheesh.

So I was again reminded why I hate water bowls today. I go to check on the buns and what do I find? A water bowl full of brown sponge cake! I think what happened was Leopold was trying to place the food bowl on top of the water bowl again. However, this time there was food in the bowl so it spilled into the water bowl. Then the food soaked up the water, broke down, and expanded. It looked really weird. I dumped it out outside. LOL

Bunnytowne – I’m glad you were able to work things out with him. I know things were rough between the two of you for awhile. It sounds like you mom is at least partially supportive since she’s helping you send all your stuff back.

So the past few months we’ve been battling trying to get Brevin to stop chasing his tail all the time! He just runs in circles five minutes straight trying to catch his tail. He does it when he notices it wag or sees it out of the corner of his eye. Once he actually caught his tail, and continued walking in a circle with his tail in his mouth, bumped into a wall and tripped over a toy falling over and rolling on his back all the while not letting go of his tail! He’s still doing it and now it’s getting worse and he’s starting to chew his legs and back leg elbows. He’ll lay on his back and wave his paws around trying to catch them. And then when he caught he’ll knaw on them. He also chews his dew claws too. I just don’t know what to do with his awkward behavior

LOL LBJ, Starsky does that with his pellet dish since he has been on a diet… He has figured out the water dish gets filled frequently but the pellet dish only gets a meager ration in the morning. Starsky’s solution is to put it on top of the water dish so I can see that it is empty… If that doesn’t work (which of course it doesn’t) he pushes the pellet dish up the ramps to the top level so I can see it…..

Hi Bunnytowne, When there is a persistent bug problem that is being treated regularly the problem usually comes from an external source… Especially in a complex of units or apartments… I suspect you have a neighbour that has an unchecked bug problem that is overflowing into your place. I am currently dealing with roaches for the first time in ages… It should be noted that this follows the departure of neighbours in the next duplex property. A group of young men from India awaiting citizenship and to bring their brides over…. It is a 3 bedroom house but there were up to 15 of them living there. (they start with one property and as they earn enough to buy a house they move on to the next, buy another and they move to the next leaving that house to the purchaser and his new bride) subsequently many curries were cooked and the house was in such a state required a team of professional cleaners for 3 days. I now have cockroaches. Don’t get me wrong, the previous Indian families were lovely and kept the house clean, we are still in touch though they have moved South of the River and started families.
Prior to the young Indian chaps was an Australian couple, both with drug problems… The lass decided enough was enough and wanted her life back and moved out, unfortunately she did not take the fleas from her untreated pets with her and a dog and one cat remained (his dog and I spent quite a while trying to get the cat for her as she had not intended to leave it behind) Well, he commits suicide due to drug debts that he could never repay and when the place was cleared the fleas were so bad they could not enter the house without wearing long pants and socks and wrapping the joins between…. Subsequently it took us two years to get rid of the fleas and it was only after the property owner repeatedly bombed the place every week for a month that the problem started to come under control…. So, if the roach problem persists look to your neighbours, one of them is responsible for the problem and no matter how much you treat your place if the source of the problem is not dealt with it will just go on and on.

Oh yes we redirect his attention all the time. It’s just ALL.THE.TIME we’re trying to redirect him lol he isn’t hurting himself when he’s chewing or anything like that. His skin doesn’t look irritated or anything. But we don’t want him to develop a compulsive disorder so we’re trying to break the habit before it gets to where that’s what he does 24/7 or something. When we direct him to his toy he’ll play for awhile until he sees his tail wag or something and decide that’s more fun. It’s just weird. It’s like he doesn’t think that’s his tail the way when he sees it move he’s like, “what’s that?” And stares at it, daring it to move, and it does, so he starts chasing it lol I mean it’s funny when you think about it. But it’s gotta be stopped lol

Everytime I clean Cottons cage since we been here he pees in his food dish.  I caught him about to do it once and stopped him.  However every saturday  clean cage day the next day or that night Boo has pellet mush.  I check it before he goes to bed at night so he has decent pellets to eat. Don’t know why he does that.  He never did it til we moved here. 

Yes Roberta thats true about the roach problem.  I suspect it is the downstairs neighbors. 

NBO your dog is nuts.  Just kidding I bet it is funny to watch.  Yes worrisome tho you dont’ want a neurotic dog.  You need the Dog Whisperer Ceaser Milan to come for a visit.  I wonder how much he charges.     Probably an arm and a leg.    He is cute too.   Shhhh I didn’t just say that lol.

I am so tired of packing boxes.  Sheesh.  Had to open a new bag of pellets for Cotton.  Going to mail that and other Cotton stuff Monday. Will put some pellets in a ziploc bag so has some to eat this week and for a few days after we get home.  His special hairbuster comb is going too. The one BB used to sell til they stopped makin them   Love that comb.  I think it is called hairbuster.  I will keep the rubber one that attracts loose hair.  I brush daily

Stuff be mailed out monday again.  Mom thought this was Friday I said I thought it was Saturday she said it is Saturday lol.  Had me confused. lol. 

Yes if one neighbor dirty we have to deal with their overflow of roaches bug man did say that  couldn’t be helped.  I just buy Bengal and keep spraying.  Shame. 

ONe neighbor in my building very nice very clean guy well nice til he starts drinnking lol.  HE had a swarm literally a swarm of ants tree ants coming thru his apartment going to his bedroom and living room from his window sill.  I saw it so did the other neighbors in our unit.  HE called several times and nothing to be done.  Other neighbors in our unit called it was weekend and WAS an emergency he couldn’t sleep in there with that.  Poor fellow they were just swarming thru and into his apartment I never seen anything like that before.  Finally housing send a spray man and got rid of them so he could feel at ease and sleep in his apartment etc.   Where his apartment is there are no trees there either.  Where they came from no idea.

When I was a teenager coming home from a date Mom would jump out of the dark shine a flashlight in my face and accuse me of doing drugs I wasn’t doing drugs I was drinking and I told her I was drinking.  sheesh I might as well have done drugs if I was going to be accused of it every weekend.   I don’t know my Mom can really be nutso sometimes.  

Already threatened to kick me out.  Used to threaten me all the time you get pregnant I will throw your ass to the street.  Then get mad cuz she found my birth control pills  what do you want me on b.c.  pills or pregnant.

Jessie 1990 – Rufus goes nuts when I jump up and down too, though I’ve bnever tried techno music! It’s so funny. His new morning routine is to run around and around and around my ankles honking while I’m getting ready. Then, when I’m about to leave he flops down against the bedroom door so I can’t get out. He even looks like he’s pretending to be asleep because he closes his eyes most of the way, whereas normally he sleeps with his eyes open.

My husband and I decided we’re just going to keep my dog, Abbie, on the raw food diet. She is just doing way too well on it to not. All her fluffy hair has grown back in.( she lost it all after her allergic reaction to rabies) Her black fur is even darker than before (didn’t know that was possible), she has lost all the tarter in her teeth (pearly whites again!) AND she is on track to getting back in her ideal weight. Plus I really enjoy seeing her eat her meals eagerly! Brevin won’t be on raw though. I don’t trust him to chew bones carefully lol I gave him a pork neck once and I was nervous the whole time lol every now and then I add some raw meat to his kibble as a treat though. Or toss him a frozen chicken foot but eh, maybe when he’s older lol

NBO – Yes, my dog always made me nervous any time she got a hold of a bone. We don’t give her a raw diet, but she does get grain-free food mixed in with here grain-added food. She developed a grain allergy as she got older, but completely grain-free made her digestive system go haywire.

Omg you guys. My furnace just copped out and it’s supposed to get to -20 over night with wind. The temp has already dropped below 60 in the house before we noticed the furnace wasn’t turning on. I provided the buns with my dogs small crate with a towel shoved in there to give them the option to huddle if need be. Do you think they can connect the dogs themselves and get in if they got cold? They keep going in there and exploring it because I just put it in there. Ugh of all days my furnace decides to stop in the middle of a winter storm

I think they’ll figure it out. As for you!! Make sure to turn your faucets on to a good steady drip, I’d even go as far as a constant small stream. Try blocking off non-essential areas (like hallways) to make yourselves a smaller area as well. Maybe the living room? or wherever the rabbits are? I hope you have a space heater at least!!! I recently went thru the same thing, but the temperatures were not nearly that cold. Leave the tv and anything that creates heat on. Use your oven to cook something if you can. I know this is frowned upon, but my husband would periodically turn the front burners on the stove top on for 15-20min at a time to help keep the temperature up.

Yeah I have my electric blanket for when I’m watching tv and we have a space heater for the bedroom as well as a nice heated mattress pad cover for the bed. The space heater is Too small for the living room. It’s actually in here right now pointed at me and the thermostat on it is actually going lower instead of higher lol! But the direct heat feels good. My nose and toes are cold :p the buns don’t seem phased at all with the chill they seem to be enjoying themselves, actually lol. I had to put in TWO extra heaters in my aquarium because the temp was dropping and I don’t want my fish to die! Poor guys. So they have three heaters in the aquarium right now. They shut off automatically when the water reaches the set temps but I see them come on every few minutes haha we’ll see how well they do when the temps drop even more. They better work. I have a lot of money in that tank right now lol

Tomorrow is my birthday and all I want is for my furnace to get fixed! Lol

Hey everyone, long time no see!
I just wanted to jump into the thread and introduce our new girl! She is a 1,5 years, lionhead and 1/4 angora, spayed girl named Lola, previously Mira she is a whirlwind of energy! She is like the opposite of Bosse. She is constantly running around, getting into mischief. She is really like a dog. Her energy is so outward while Bosses energy is very inward. Bonding them will be interesting.

She is a little bit territorial. Territorial poops all around. Even territorial pee. And her pee STINKS SO BAD WAH. I hope she’ll get better litter habits as she get used to the place.

I decided to call this person I had been talking to about my now cancelled workshop. The topic was sort of what they do for a living. I wanted to let them know it was canceled and to thank them for helping. You guys probably don’t remember, but I actually interviewed for a job where this person works a long time ago. They have a new “internship” listed, but I’m hesitant to apply. I can’t tell if it would be a very good fit or not, plus it is only for a year. I wanted to ask them about it, but then chickened out. I thought perhaps I would come across the wrong way since I had been asking for help with this other thing.

For those that have 3 buns… Do you get comments are judgements at you for having 3 rabbits? I’ve been looking into getting another bun to add to my pair. They have an entire “bunny room” and a spare cage if it doesn’t work with bonding them. Just curious on how people look at you when you have three rabbits living in a house lol my husband is hesitant to add another. Although he wants one. Sally and Harley are already taking up the spare bedroom so I don’t see how one more would hurt lol

Alright, I’m really getting sick of this rollercoaster weather. Today – 16F for the high and mega below zero windchills in the AM. Tomorrow – 55F. It’s supposed to be in the 40s then for the weekend. I bet you can’t guess what’s going to happen Monday though. *sigh*

Yeah, it was so cold this morning. Why does it always have to be super crazy cold whenever it’s my turn to do outside animals? My hand got stuck on the metal frame of an enclosure door today! I had to peel it off. =\

I think that there should be licencing requirements for certain numbers of animals. You can’t enforce laws that are as subjective as “as long as they’re well cared for” very easily.

But rabbits are kind of a special case. You can care for 15 rabbits easier than 15 cats I think, which is weird because I think that 1 rabbit is actually more work than 1 cat.

You know what I meant lol like if you have more than two of any animal people start thinking you have a zoo. But honestly if someone were to have 15 rabbits and took excellent care, I mean veggies, exercise, cleanliness, attention then I don’t see a problem. But usually when someone has TOO MANY animals it’ll show in the lack of care of the animal like being unsocialized or timid because they were neglected in attention even though they had plenty of food and water but the owner didn’t have time to give them proper attention. Or the owners give the animals so much love but neglect grooming or something because they have so many but everyone is still being fed and watered. Ect. But I think I have plenty of time to care and spoil a third bunny it’ll probably be my limit in animals though. That would bring me to 2 dogs, three rabbits, and an aquarium. ( don’t judge, my aquarium requires a lot of care! Lol)
I know there are laws in some places where there is a limit of the number of dogs you can have though.

Every individual has their limit to the amount if animals they are able to provide and care for. Some are only able to take care of one while others have no problem taking care of 6 or 7 ect. Just depends how much time you have on your hands. And of course financially as well.

A very stringent routine is required when dealing with large numbers…. Even though 7 of mine are really in their Mothers care I still have to clean up after them… I currently rely on a roster system for cleaning bungalows and enclosures and have devised a way of lining areas so that any unscheduled emergency cleaning can be done just on the affected areas… Tonight is grooming night and Pascal and Nermal cage cleaning, after I sweep out the 4 main play areas.

A,righty that’s what I was curious about is if when you say you have 2 dogs and 3 rabbits if that sounded like you have a lot of animals lol and if they gave you an odd look for having so many of a “pooping machine farm animal” inside your home. Because to the general public they see rabbits as nasty smelly rodents (I knew they aren’t rodents but people seem to classify them as such. Even though I don’t mind rodents. I used to have a rat :p ) Yet when people come they get startled after being in the house for a couple hours only to finally see the rabbits and be like “oh my gosh you have bunnies?!” Because they didn’t even notice their “stench”

Someone on a different forum was hand-feeding a wild cottontail and asked if they should keep it as a pet and I was really surprised/embarrassed by how many people who really thought it was a good idea.

Well. I had a “pet” deer. Raised him from a bottle. But he stayed outside on 800 acres of land. He’d hide in the woods and every few hours I’d go out shake the bottle and call him and he’d come out of hiding. There was always the risk of him getting eaten by hogs or coyotes but that’s nature and I wanted him to be a part of nature. Then he grew up. He would run off during deer season for the rut. He’d be gone for months at a time before coming back home when the rut was over. He slept in our front yard every night with the other wild deer and by morning he was off again going wherever he could. Our 800 acres was deer proof fenced in so he couldn’t really go anywhere lol but even as an adult I was able to pet him and rub his ears. Sometimes when the deer lice was bad I’d even give him a spray down to ease him up. But he was able to act completely like the rest of the deer. But he was tame I guess. I guess he wasn’t really my pet lol but I loved him and put a lot of work raising the orphan lol every morning I’d wake up at the crack of dawn and go walking around the land with him when he was old enough to want to naturally follow momma around everywhere ( when they are young they spend most of their time hiding and playing by themselves only interacting with mom during feeding time) anyhoo, when he was older he’d follow me everywhere around the ranch. It was funny because I naturally don’t enjoy running into pigs and so when I’d run into a herd I’d freak out and run away because they are MEAN (They’ve chased me up a tree once) and Bucky would kind of catch my anxiety and freak out too and run from the hogs and so we both avoided hogs at all cost. I think that’s why he survived all those nights out in the woods with so many wild hogs around. (I’m sure most if it was instinctual but I was only in 6th grade when I got him and like to think I helped haha!)

I think that size makes a big difference.

I don’t imagine anyone thinking, for example, that 5 rats is a lot of pets. But 5 dogs and they’ll be like “are you on a farm!?”

Zombie-Sue – That doesn’t mean they want to protect biodiversity. It means they want to keep “cute” wildlife as pets. Some people have trouble understanding that a wild animal belongs in the wild. And if an animal isn’t cute or cuddly-looking, then a lot of people don’t see them as being important or having value. I can’t tell you how many people have told me stories about how they kill all these snakes (or a number of other animals) because they don’t like them. It’s incredibly sad. =(

Tessie – I’m shooting for August. I was supposed to be done last year, but a lot of things got in the way.

NBO – I think it’s nice that you saved an orphaned fawn. He did go back to the wild though, he just liked to return to the place where he grew up.

Okay, weird question. I will be attending some careers fairs over the next couple of weeks. Shound I bring copies of my resume to leave with companies/organizations? If you feel that I should, how should they be printed? On plain paper? Fancy paper? Single sided? Double sided?

When I was taught on how to do resumes, I was taught that you use that fancy heavier “resume” paper (with a faint pattern on it). You print it single sided, but your resume can be no more than 2 pages. The pages should be paper clipped, not stapled. Note, this was a long time ago.

Things have changed. It seems most of the resumes I have submitted over the last few years were submitted electronically because this is what the potential employer requested. So if I brought copies of my resume, would they even get looked at? Or would they be shoved into a pile, never to see the light of day again?

Perhaps I should get business cards from employers and email my resume to them afterward?

No, I’d just use regular printer paper and definitely staple it. But I think that your hunch that they’d get tossed in a pile is correct. I’ve always heard it’s best to avoid job fairs. I think your idea to get business cards is way better.

LBJ, I work part time for my university’s career centre, so I can help

– you can bring a resume printed to the fair, but make sure it’s not a general resume. You should have an idea of what kind of opportunities you’re looking for, so tailor you resume for that specific are. Printed on regular paper, single sided and stapled is fine. Unless you’re going for a environmental firm, in that case double side it. And max 2 pages, no weird fonts, and font size not tiny

– Collecting business cards and emails is a great thing to do either way. You can then write a specific cover letter and more tailored resume. Just don’t wait for too long to follow up. That’s what I usually tell my students to do. Look for pre-fair panels, where you can talk with employers one-on-one. I know my university is hosting one.

– Also, don’t forget about your appearance and body language. Open body language (no crossed arms), smile and look professional

Zombie Sue – Yep, makes me want to cry. This is something I have to deal with on a daily basis. I don’t think I really dislike any kind of animal, but I understand people have their fears. I love all the snakes where I work, so sometimes it is difficult to imagine someone not likely them. They are all sweeties. Well, except for Mr Grumpy-Pants (not his real name), but I still like him. We actually think he has PTSD, if snakes can have that.
I was suspecting that regular paper was fine. Things have changed a lot.

BubblesJo – Oh boy, expert advice! Yep, career fairs have never produced anything for me. I thought it would be helpful to talk to people though, just in case I see them again later on down the line. They might at least recognize me. I like your idea! If I get business cards/emails, then I can email these people more tailored resumes. Not that most of them are going to be there with a specific job they are looking to fill, but it’s nice to know what they are looking for.

It really depends on your area. Career fairs tend to be very industry focused. But you never know who shows up Yeah, it’s great to have contacts! It shows initiative and interest with the employer. If you’re looking for a job I’d advise you to “stalk” the job opportunity pages for the places you’d like to work. I have emails sent to me anytime there’s a change in a “career” page of a company I’d like to work with. I want to do science outreach or environmental education, so I get WWF, CPWAS, Let’s Talk Science, museums, science centres… It’s worth keeping an eye out!

One tip I was told, is that even if it’s regular paper, print it out on a different color. Not like bright pink, but a soft cream color or a soft yellow. People who have to read resumes go for the ones that draw interest. Boring white is… boring. They skip through a lot of them.

Bubbles – That’s a good point. I do stalk some places, but I didn’t know I could be notified if something changes on their site. I do have a keyword thing set up with my university’s job site. Any time something is posted with that keyword, I get an email.

So I bought a PC game yesterday and I have been playing it nonstop lol I remember playing it growing up. Last night I stayed up until 6am playing it haha simcity is probably one of my all time favorite games I’m taking a break right now because I feel like an addict haha!

Yes, where you build the cities. It’s been a long time since I’ve played mine, but the last couple months I’ve been considering dusting it off and giving it another go. I liked the original sim city better, I think, but the last one I played was simcity3000. It seemed much harder. Well.. no harder isn’t the right word… it just seemed to take a LOT longer with having to also work out the water pipe system.

I’ve never played sims! But I really wanted to try the rollercoaster one!

It’s the simcity from 2013. Not sure but it’s new. I used to okay the older one but it got lost. I definitely like this one more. You don’t have to deal with pipes or anything but there is more to the game now and more challenging lol I’m still figuring it out but you can work with your neighboring cities so one city can be tourism focused another can be lots of jobs and shopping another mining it’s a crazy balancing act. I’m trying to still figure out. It’s pretty cool!

It’s definitely not like the sims (I have that game too haha) its a but more complicated because you have to balance our industrial, commercial, and residential. I find the newer one more complicated than the older version. But it could also be because it’s been forever and I’m still trying to work it out a bit. But I’m having loads of fun. I’m getting nothing accomplished at home. I’m just sitting at my computer playing my game teehee!

On the sims I made this old haunted house and I tried killing every sim that lived there a different way so it would have different colored ghost floating around! It was hard doing some of the different ways. Drowning, fire, electrocution and starvation were the easiest ones. But it was hard doing the flu death and death by satellite and such. (I eventually got the satellite but I have yet to die from the flu hmpf)

I’ve always had a hard time staying interested in Sims-like games. They tend to get monotonous, which is why I prefer action or racing games lol.

I don’t play pc/xbox games very much, mostly because I play a mmorpg on my pc… hmm at this point that label really shouldn’t apply anymore. Talk about dated? NexusTK was created in 1996 with US release in 1998.

I started playing in 2003. At that time you could see 1,000 people logged on at one time. Today it can be anywhere from 120-350. Very nostalgic with much of the game being player run. The community is what makes nexus different than other mmorpgs My hubby and I took a 3yr break from it because some programming changes were not dial-up friendly and caused us to not be able to do what we liked to do. But thankfully, our neighborhood is finally covered by high-speed. Literally the day we were connected, we both re-registered our nexus accounts. And while the game is dying, we’ll be there until the end. New people come to check it out quite often, but as for becoming popular? It’ll never grab the attention of the masses again.

This is embarrassing. So we went to a movie today (American Hustle) because they are having $5 Tuesdays at our movie theater. We went to the 3:30 show thinking we would avoid the crowd later tonight. Well, we were probably the youngest people there by a minimum of 25 years. o_O

Hi Guys,

Not been participating as much as I would like lately… Those who know me on Facebook would have seen my posts… Aside from being kept busy with Pandora and the bubs (who are almost ready to go to forever homes) I recently was advised that what started as a tooth abscess on my sweet 14 yr old cat Jebediah is actually an extremely aggressive form of cancer, Fibrosarcoma… We are currently treasuring each moment and I am spoiling him with what ever he wants…… I lost my 24 yr old kitty Twinkletoes last year as well as my Father so it makes this doubly hard as Dad loved both Twinkers and Jebbers. If I am absent or grumpy at times that is why… I am dreading the moment when I have to help Jebediah over the bridge and I know it will be very soon.

It must be sad knowing that soon you will loose him, but he’s clearly had a long and wonderful life, and at least you get to spend this time with him now, giving him lots of love and attention.

Roberta – I’m sorry to hear about your kitty. Both of my childhood kitties ended up with tumors in their mouths and both had to be put down. The vet tried to remove the tumor in my one kitty, but they we’re successful. =( Spend time lot’s of time with him. I’m sure he knows how loved he is.

I took Wooly back the the vet again today. I should start a thread about it.

Right now all you can do is spoil him rotten with lots of his favorite treats and give lots of love. I too had a cat die of an extremely fast growing cancer and all I could do was make her last days happy ones. You are in my thoughts.

Omg you guys. I heard some concerning news today. My sister-in-laws roommate the same guy that photographed my wedding went crazy he started meditation to try and open his “third eye” and she said he listened to this cd or music thing that releases a high vibration to help you along and while he was listening to it his eyes were like bulging out of his head and he got very wide eyed. She listened to it too but didn’t really feel anything or see anything either. Anyways, since listening to it over the course of 10 days he started going absolutely crazy. His sentences started not making sense. His perception of the world was changing and was warped. My sister in law got concerned because his state of mind demonized so quickly. She called his parents and they flew down and found him in a bar and he was saying stuff like “mommy! Daddy! It’s my birthday!” And he was talking like a little child. He was acting and sounding like a 2 year old. He’s been committed into a mental facility and he’s been there a few days. My sister in law went to go see him and she says he’s slightly better but he’s still really off. He’s making full sentences now but it’s not really making sense what he means.

It’s so weird how something like that can completely change you. Who knew your mind is so fragile. He is normally very smart. Like intelligent. And I went on his facebook and I saw over the course of a few days how his statuses changed. He posted one night about the vibration and how it got him thinking and then over the course of the week his statuses were changing. They didn’t sound as intelligent as he used to. I hope he gets better. He was very sweet.

And I’m not sure if he had a seizure or not. I’m sure they are running some brain scans and whatnot. They asked what he saw and is seeing and he just keeps saying “I saw love, let me show you” and “I feel love, I can show you” idk. And saying “that’s amore” Something weird happened while he was meditating. He isn’t doing it anymore since being commited. He seems happy though. Like really happy. He just isn’t making sense with what he says most of the time. It’s terrible. He was so intelligent and now he’s so childlike I guess you can say. It’s so scary, really. He was so normal and smart and something made him just go crazy over the course of a week. Hopefully since he can’t meditate anymore he’ll snap out of it. I’m not sure. He was talking slot about cymatics on his facebook. Something about “seeing sound” and that’s what he was listening to.

Blah, Ashe has had a relapse on her bonding with humans. Ever since I have started trimming her nails she has started associating us with unpleasant experiences. Basically what is happening is when I let her out, she runs back in her condo any time I come near UNLESS I am sitting at the computer. I can pet her if she comes up and nudges my foot, but the second I come off the chair, she shoots back into her condo. So, I feel like we are starting all over again. She’s even suspicious when we offer raisins. She is due for another nail trim too >< I can see her nails clearly. Grr

My bunnies do the same thing, Jessie. It’s just the norm, typical behavior for a bunny. They are grumps sometimes, other times they act like spoiled kids, sometimes they’re more playful than other times. Don’t take behavior like that seriously…it’s really just your bunny being..well, a bunny.

It’s kind of late to post my New Years resolution, but hey. My New Years res was to try to spend more time with my kids and hubby than our rabbits. Unfortunately, I broke that resolution. But we always have lots of family fun time. Mostly it’s with our pets. In the summer we always spend lots of time outside going and traveling places. But for now we just spend family time indoors with game nite, movie night, whatever. ‘Sides, who honestly wants to be outside this time of year? I envy you Aussies and those who live in the warm states like California or Florida!

finally home.   louisiana iced over jan 23.  interstate bridges were about to be salted so we stayed at buddys.  jan 24 went to airport flight cancelled due to bad weather in lake charles and houston.   rescheduled for jan 25 5:40.   called to change cotton to my flights.  

jan 25 went to airport 5:40 a.m.  went thru security.  then was notified that flight cancelled.  back downstairs to be rescheduled in houston to orlando and lady called to change cotton to my new flight.   Ok back upstairs.  Just before flight no security opened.  WEnt downstairs was delayed again.  de icing maching froze.  have to wait on mother nature the sun to melt the ice on plane n runway.  Ok 8 comes back downstairs rescheduled again lady calls to add cotton to my new flight schedule.  delayed again repeat process.  9 comes repeat process.  10 comes finally take off. 

houston guy pushes me quickly to my departure after going on tram and didn’t have to wait in line. first flight was short and cotton got his wings so to speak.  I stuck my hand in there and petted him.  that plane was smaller so take off and landing was rougher.  2nd flight flight attendant told me twice to put cotton under the seat.  2nd time I figured I better leave him there.  The guy by the window says he is allergic ( yeah right no symptoms whatsoever) wanted to move.  He was probably getting squished.    The guy to my right reminded me of the dad on that show frasier lol.  

I kept calling and texting hubby about flight changes and landing time changes.  Finally I just texted delay delay delay will text n call when I am in the air.  He thought I wasn’t coming.   When I landed he wasn’t there.  A few hours later when I didn’t hear from him I called his  sister.  She called him too.  finally we woke him up.  He said I thought you weren’t coming with all the delays and cancelation.  He came right over to get me. We stayed at his sisters that night.  

Came home Sunday.  Set up Cottons house n litterboxes.  Let him out.  HE ran this way.  Little later he would streak across the floor the other way.  Little later he would run the other way kicking up his legs.   Back n forth lol.  He was so happy he stopped n chewed his toy.  He has  2 boxes He stopped to chew on.  

He is eating good again as of yesterday.  HE was eating and pooping good so I knew he would be ok.  HE ate all his pellets yesterday so I am happy he is ok now.  HE is so happy to be home.  ME too.  Hubby glad I am home too.  And that Cotton is too.
