What’s up this weekend for you?
Wine tasting! (assuming Hannah eats this afternoon)
A girl at work set it up – she rented a house, worked out meals, got us tickets (its a special wine tasting weekend where you buy one ticket to taste at a bunch of places and they give you free stuff), got a bus to drive us around, and all for very little money. I love any cheap vacation that I don’t have to plan! It might be a little awkward because we don’t know anybody except the girl who set it up and one other guy, but I’m sure with enough wine we’ll be best friends 😉
How about you, Sarita?
You and wine…what a surprise :~) That does sound like fun! I hope you can make it.
Me, tomorrow my mom is coming to help me decorate for Christmas (which I hate doing but she likes it so I indulge her) and then we are going to a friend of mine’s Women’s Gift Exchange Party which sounds like fun. Etienne made his famous Shrimp Ceviche style for me to take.
Sunday, I rest :~)
Yeah, I’m sure you’re all shocked that I enjoy spending a weekend drinking wine. lol
I wish I had someone to help me decorate! It’s always much more fun when you have someone who enjoys it.
Tomorrow my daughters are in a Christmas piano recital. Then we have to finish hanging ceiling drywall and 3 doors. Then the basement should be done! Sunday we’re going to look for either a real or artificial Christmas tree to put down there for the girls to decorate however they want. =)
I should find a little tree this weekend if I can. We don’t have room for a full size tree like we usually get this year, due to Squirrel taking up it’s space, but I can clear a spot on my jewelry table in the living room for a mini tree I suppose. Wouldn’t be the same without a tree, so I better get on that
I’m also going to call my hair salon and see if they do the Locks of Love thing, as my hair has started to annoy me, I ant to get it chopped off. It’s down to my butt, and gets in the way of everything I do… ugh.
MB – that sounds like a nice thing to do for the holidays…how long did it take you to grow it that long? I could never ever grow my hair very long – I have crappy hair – I would love to have had hair down to my butt.
Oh, about 5 years., give or take. So I guess in another 5 or so years I can donate it all again lol.
I’ll make my hubby take before and after pics ![]()
I’d love to see the before and after!
@Monkeybun- I have another alternative to locks of love I thought you might like to look at. I’m a licensed cosmetologist and one of my clients was telling me (as she was getting her hair cut for donation) that she found she didn’t quite like some things she heard about locks of love and she told me about Pantene Pro V’s hair donation program (http://www.pantene.com/en-US/beautiful-lengths-refresh/Pages/default.aspx) and I thought I might pass it on to you. I’m not an expert on locks of love, nor would I slander (Dad and brother are lawyers
) but I thought I would throw that out there.
As for my weekend, I have my aunt’s memorial (which I need), teaching myself some complicated math, and spending time with family while trying to get well fast lol. But all those things you guys said sound fun ![]()
FrankieFlash, I miss complicated math a little bit 🙂 What are you working on?
MB, can’t wait for before and after pics! My hair is pretty long and I think I need a cut, but it’s only halfway down my back – not nearly as long as yours. I bet it won’t even be super short once you get it cut. My friends did it once, but their hair was only about my length at the time, so to cut the required length off they got it super super short.
I like Locks of Love because it goes to kids, and well, to be honest kids do need it more, if only for the fact that other kids can be cruel and its hard enough being a kid that has a disease of some kind that makes them lose their own hair, never mind have to deal with other kids cruel taunts. The Pantene program goes to adults, who can get away with wearing store bought wigs or scarves easier than a kid can, and don’t have the cruel taunts every day aimed at them. Just my thoughts ![]()
Elrohwen, I am working on two-sample inference for my statistics class. I missed the in-class lecture due to me being sick this week and that always makes it a little more challenging to get through the unit.
and monkeybun, I totally understand. I haven’t looked at locks of love website in a while. I will just say is that the rumor I heard is that they sold the wigs they made, not donated like pantene. BUT things could’ve changed. Either way, its an awesome thing to do- donating your hair. I also wanted to but I couldn’t stay away from the haircolor ![]()
They sell hair that is too short, or hair that is grey, but not the full wig from what I understand
This weekend is… um… probably staying home and playing with buns and playing video games. So normal day. ![]()
MB, 5 years ago I donated to Locks of Love. My hair was only just past my shoulders, but it’s so thick that they got 2 ponytails out of it. If they sell some, maybe it’s to offset the cost of making the wigs? Oh, and after I got my hair cut short, I was told I looked younger!
Elrohwen, please send the bus by my house. I want to come! That sounds like a blast. I have never been to a wine tasting, and really want to lately.
(In Florida it’s just a never-ending food tasting instead, thus Weight Watchers every other year.)
If you ever want to see a great dvd on wines, rent the one by John Cleese. It’s really good. He explains about all the types of wines, grapes, tasting and pricing. It’s very down to earth and dispels the pretentiousness in typical humorous fashion, but makes you want to try it.
ooo, it’s called Wine for the Confused, and here’s a clip:
I’ll have to look that one up on Netflix!
Most of what I know about wines was from my college wines class, plus a little reading recently. I’m so glad I had the chance to take that class or I don’t think I’d get the enjoyment out of wine that I do.
And I’ll ask if the bus can swing by your house!
Yep, got it from Netflix last year.
“I enjoyed his liver with a nice glass of Chianti. Pffffffffttttttt.”
Going to find a Christmas tree tomorrow
Then spending time with my grandparents and spending some quality time at the stable. Sunday going out with my boyfriend.
Yeah, thats what they do. Sell it to help with costs. They won’t have to sell much of mine though lol
I need a bang trim. I’ll be hanging out with my friend next week who has her cosmetology degree so I’ll be asking her to do something about my bangs, haha.
As for the weekend.. nothing. Just working. I work from 1 pm-9pm today, and 9 am-5 pm tomorrow, and 9:15-6 pm on sunday. There goes my weekend. I feel married to my job *puke*
CRAZY weekend lined up
Tomorrow we have a walk through with the home owner (Because he’s crazy and wants to show us his house or something) inspection later on, then we are going to an AWSOME engagement!!
Dave’s friend has rented an entire movie theatre, is playing his girlfriends favorite movie, invited all their friends and family to the showing (in disguise) and will then propose!!! The media is hounding to come film!! How cute, aweswome, thoughtful and romantic!! I think I will cry when it happens.
And then Sunday ….I am going to see another movie…erm about a vampire who marries a girl and then she gets pregnant *cough cough*
((looks around nervously))
Sounds more fun than my weekend. After I finally come out of my ‘was worried about bunny all week’ recovery coma, we’ll be battening down the hatches for yet another blizzard strength snowstorm. People are being urged to come home from the boonies (WHO may I ask is that hard core up here this time of year??) because it’s supposed to be so bad no one will be able to help them if they get stuck. 0_o
MB…I’ve been so ready to cut my hair (not quite as long as yours, but close-haven’t cut it since finishing chemo 6 years ago) that I’d almost consider being bald again. I’d like to donate to LOL too, but not sure my hair is good enough condition. Very thin and brittle…not to mention the random greys. ![]()
Is it true that you can’t donate hair that has been colored? I like to highlight mine, but I have never dyed my whole head. My husband wanted to see me with really long hair, so I am growing it out, and it is about to my mid back now. I am going to have fun with it and let it grow out until I am pregnant, then I am going to cut it all off like drastically short and maybe dye it then. I like to have fun like that.
They accept colored hair as long as it isn’t bleached. And they do take hair that is gray, they will sell the gray hairs to offset costs, and use the non gray ![]()
Lol…I can’t imagine who would BUY grey hair? 0_o
STUDYING! Vet school finals are coming up, and I’ve got to do well. EEEK! Cross your fingers, everyone.
just to throw this out there but highlights are typically bleached unless you have light enough hair that they can life it with a color developer and not need to use a lightener.
and i’ve known a couple people who have come down with cancer at a later age and will look for a wig with gray hair so they can match their color pre-chemo. and there’s a big difference between real gray and fake. Gray is hard to duplicate because it is hair with loss of melanin so its hard to artificially create that with adding color (or melanin).
sorry to get all nerdy on you but hair is my thang.
and good luck emkvet! we need more good vets out there
