Sorry guys. I haven’t been around in forever. I wanted to update you all on my furry and feathered family.
Unfortunately I’m down to one rabbit. Acorn is still running around my house like a crazy bunny but I lost Henri to an abcess a few months back.
Acorn is happy playing with and cuddling with the cats though. I wake up just about every morning to him binkying around the living room. He’s completely cageless now too. He spends most of his time in the bird room. I think he likes it in there because the birds throw him food, lol. I’ve got a little bunny garden for him downstairs too. There’s a few different kinds of herbs and lettuce growing down there as well as some grass and he goes down and feeds from the bunny buffet whenever he wants.
My flock has grown though. I think the last time I was around here I had two birds…. There are 6 now.
This is Sage, my gold capped conure. He’s the only baby in my flock and is a total sweetheart to everyone he meets.

This is his buddy Boomer… You might actually remember him. He’s my 2 year old sun conure.

This is Sky, he’s a 23 year old Bare Eyed Cockatoo.

And Sydney, my female Bare eyed.

And for some reason I can’t get the amazons pictures to upload…. I’ll have to figure out how to add them later. Peppers is the first bird I got though so you guys might remember him. Right around Thanksgiving someone gave me a Double yellow headed amazon who is 15 years old named Hans. Hans and Peppers are absolute best of buddies so it worked out great.
The cats are all doing great too. Trinity my calico loves cuddling with and playing chase with Acorn which is nice to see. Other then that they are all pretty much just normal cats. Bentley and Mercury are my lap kitties and Nemo is my scaredy cat, nothing has really changed with them.
How is everyone doing? I miss you guys!
Got it!
Here’s Peppers

And here’s Hans

Oh Angoragirl I’m SO SAD about Herni – he was such a wonderful rabbit.
Your birds are amazing. Are they noisy? I have one little cockateil and he’s very noisy.
Give Acorn a kiss for me – I’m glad he has the cats to cuddle with.
I’ve been thinking about getting Acorn a new buddy but honestly I think he might just be happier being with the cats. He always has been a bit of a brute and the cats can take getting bossed around a little better then another rabbit could I think.
Birds…. noisy?? Lol! Go to youtube and look up Stlbirdlady. You can see vids of them all there and it should give you an idea of the noise level. The amazons are actually very quiet, the conures and cockatoos on the other hand, not so much. The Toos are hilarious though. If you look me up on youtube you’ll see several vids of them dancing. Sydney is the most trainable bird I’ve ever met too I think. I need to get a new one posted of all her tricks. She LOVES performing.
I will do that. Sydney is a very pretty bird – very unusual – in that picture she reminds me of a Harlequin for some reason – I guess the patch around her eyes (looks like a mask) and the comb is diamond shaped (in that photo anyway).
YEAH!!! So happy to hear from you!!! I’m glad your well. I’m sorry about Henri
Your birds are GORGEOUS!! I love Conures and cockateils-and well any pretty bird whos big!!
That sun conure is BEAUTIFUL!!! WOW!
Welcome back. I am heartbroken to hear about Henri. He was always one of my very favorites from my first days on BinkyBunny! That’s very sad. I am glad Acorn is holding up well. I think if he’s happy just hanging out with the cats and you, I wouldn’t rush out to get him a new friend, at least not right away. You always can later on down the road.
Your birds are amazing! Thanks for sharing the pics! Do you have any recent pics of Acorn?
(((((((((((Binky Free Henri!)))))))))))
Oh my…my mom has 15 birds. I swear it seems like she’s always cleaning someone’s cage, but she’s fanatical about it. She can’t stand a messy cage and, well, birds make messes. :0) I guess it’s not unlike me shop vac-ing my bunny cages twice a day.
You have beautiful birds, I especially like your sun conure.
shop vac-ing bunny cages twice a day……………..can I adopt you?
I have to, my guys have horrid litter habbits. At least the ones on the same level as the dog. If only they would understand that the dogs think bunny poop is the BEST. SNACK. EVER…

Here’s another pic with her crest. You can see the yellow under her wings in this one too.

The bare eyes aren’t very common in the pet trade. That’s pretty much why when I saw Sydney and Sky being rehomed, I had to bring them home. They really are a joy to be around most of the time but they are also very high maintenance birds. I could have 10 more conures or amazons and they still wouldn’t take as much work as the Toos.
I like birds… OTHER PEOPLE’S birds. They are messy lil things and I cannot handle that. The buns can be messy, but it’s in a way I can deal with. For example: I LOVE lifting up the maze and picking up 8,000 chewed up bits of cardboard by hand to prevent it clogging my vaccuum… seriously, it’s great! ;o)

Big?? Lol, if you think the tiels and conures are big birds then you’d think most of the birds I work with out at the rescue are HUGE! The amazons and cockatoos are much bigger then the conures are. I’m a mess in this picture so please ignore me but this should give you a good idea of how big the toos and zons are.

Do you have any recent pics of Acorn?
I do but they aren’t on my work computer. My home computer has been giving me trouble lately too. I think I got a virus
but I can definately get some new pics tonight!

I definately know about cleaning cages! If your mom doesn’t have one already, she should really think about getting a steam cleaner for her cages. I only have four cages and I’d be lost without mine!
Boomer is a gorgeous little guy. It’s been a bit of a long road with him too. He was pretty much taught that hands are evil monsters by the person who had him before me. As a result, I pretty much couldn’t touch him for the first few months he was with me without him trying to attack. The first time he actually wanted me to preen him, I cried. He still doesn’t really like hands, or strangers but he has come a long way in the relatively short time he’s been with me.
Well Sydney is quite the drama queen isn’t she! She’s just amazing.
Lol, I guess you saw her videos? Yes she is quite a character for sure. She’s incredibly smart too. I don’t know if you can tell a lot of what she’s saying in some of those videos but one of her favorite things to say is “I got it!” Since I first got her I’ve always responded to that by asking her what she has. She’s been putting together a lot of sentences now. Instead of saying I got it, she’ll say “I got the water” when I’m refilling their water bowls. And “I got the phone” when I’m on the phone or it rings. I’ve heard her working on a few more sentences too. There is no doubt that she knows exactly what she is saying because she only uses those words correctly. The intelligence of parrots is really what drew me to them when I started working at the rescue and there is no doubt that I got a smart one in Sydney…. sometimes I think she might be too smart!
How old is she? I see Sky is 23. Where they relinquished together at the rescue?
The only reason that I know how old Sky is even is that he is banded. When I got them, the woman I got them from told me that they were two and four years old. She had only had them for a few months and I don’t think she was intentionally lying to me about their ages, I think it’s more likely that she either misheard and they were at the time, 22 and 24, or she was lied to.
As far as I know, they’ve pretty much always been together and we think that Sydney is probably around the same age as Sky. Those two have had a rather sorted history though and I’m constantly amazed that they are as well adjusted as they are now. I found Sky’s breeder and was able to talk to her at length and found out that her birds were stolen from her when Sky was a baby. A honest man in TX who owned a pet shop called her when he realized he had received stolen birds and puppies. As a thankyou she gave him Sky. I believe that Sydney and Sky lived in a pet shop for many years. I’m not entirely sure how but eventually they ended up in IL and the man and his wife got divorced. The wife apparently sold off a lot of his animals, Sydney and Sky being two of them. I only found this out because when the woman who was rehoming them put them on CL she was contacted by the man who wanted them back but was not willing to give her the 400 she was asking for them so he told her to find someone else to take them. That’s pretty much where I came in. A day after I got them, a bird broker offered her 500 for them…. Thankfully they were too late.
Sorry, that was a really long answer to a relatively simple question!
Wow, they have had quite a life! I do believe that people do lie about animals when they bring them to a shelter or try to rehome them so it’s possible she was lied to or else Sydney is telling her stories :~) It’s nice though that you were able to speak with the breeder and get their stories – that’s probably pretty unusual – I’m sure she was happy to know how they were doing as well.
When you say banded are you talking about the silver ring that they usually have on their leg? My cockatiel has one but I’ll be darned if he lets me read it (I’ve tried many times) and it’s SO SMALL – it’s probably larger on the bigger birds though.
Yep, that’s the band I’m talking about. All domestically bred birds should have a closed band, imported birds (older birds, importation is now thankfully illegal) will have an open band which just means that there is a break in the band. Most bands have a breeder code and a year on them, lots of them have states too.
How old is your tiel? Is he tame and just doesn’t like you messing with his foot? If so, you might actually consider getting the band removed. It bothers some birds and most vets remove them. Sky still has his mostly because it makes it a lot easier for other people to know which bird is which. Sky is not a bird that people who are new to him want to mess with. He’s majorly bonded to me and he will attack other people once in a while. We’re working on that but I’m afraid that’s never really going to change. He has no clue whatsoever that he is a bird, neither does Sydney. They get majorly hormonal, but never towards eachother, always towards me and Matt.
Well, I’ve had him almost 4 years and I think he was only a few years old when I got him. He’s not very tame which is my fault – I need to get his wing clipped so he doesn’t fly (I have vaulted ceilings all over the house or else his flying would be no big deal) and also some large picture windows up high which is where he always flies too and it’s impossible to get him down and he won’t come down. When I first got him I had his wing clipped and he loved to walk around the carpet. I have to take a rabbit in tomorrow so I’ll ask if this vet can clip his wing and take the bracelet off – I’d love to know what it says.
I think the current vet I go to doesn’t mind seeing birds – my other vet prefers not to see birds although she did do his bloodwork when I got him.
OMG. My mother said she’s willing her birds to me, my brother, and my sister when my parents die…I just got to wondering where the heck I’m gonna put 5 birds. Gah!
They have an African Gray who mimics perfectly. He sounds EXACTLY like my dad and he does the answering machine complete with beeps. When I go over there I can never tell whether the phone is actually ringing or if the bird is ringing.
I’ll tell you what, though. Their house is not the place to be if you have a headache….
If you want to work on taming him, the best way is just to talk to him. Birds generally love to be read to or sang to. My Hans actually sings back to me! If he likes millet, and you can offer it to him from your hand that could do wonders too. I don’t have a lot of experience with Tiels but if they are much like their larger cousins the cockatoos he probably loves attention of any kind!

Matt REALLY wants an African Grey. They are incredibly intelligent birds who have a vocal range that very few animals can rival.
What other birds does your mom have? …. I wonder if she’s on the bird forum that I mod on.
It’s true – he loves attention – he loves when we talk to him and come to his cage.
I only wish I could get him on a better diet – I did find a place on-line to get the roudybush pelleted formula which I understand is the recommended diet – I used it in the beginning with the other stuff to try to wean him off the seeds but I was not very persistent like I should have been.
oooohhhh, that brings up a thought, AngoraGirl. I wonder if my kids worry that I will leave all my bunnies to them if something happens to me! Maybe I need to write NTRS into my will so they will come take the buns….lol
Roudybush is good. Do you have a Petsmart by you? I usually see Zupreem pellets there. I use them for most of my flock. Harrisons is another great food. Check out theperchstore.net for their foods, they have a great selection if you have to order food online. For the little guys like tiels, some seed in the diet is still very acceptable, my zons don’t get any though because they are predisposed to fatty liver disease. thePerch is a great bird forum if you want to learn more about your little guy. We have tons of tiel owners there!
I do have Petsmart – I will check for Zupreem – I’m glad to hear that some seeds in the tiels diet is okay too. Is that thePerch.net?
I’m going to join…thanks!
What’s your user name too so I can use you as a referral.
I’m redpeppers over there. ![]()
My mom isn’t on any forums. She has the African Gray, a Sun Conure, a Cockatoo, some cockatiels, I think there’s a parolet (or there was at one point), a pair of love birds…She didn’t start getting the birds until I moved out so I’m not sure what they all are, I just know I counted 15 of them. :0)
hey there angoragrl! so very sorry to hear about henri. i remember him well… he was a real cutie.
beautiful birds! you have some great pics of them ![]()
Man, I love this site. Love that people share about their awesome pets! Your flock is stunning! From what others have said, your buck Henri sounded special. I look forward to seeing pictures and hearing more about him. Binky Free Henri
I’m very sorry to hear about Henri. He was sweet.
This was my favorite picture of him. Didn’t you get him out of the mud the night you took him home?
Binky free, Henri.
Hello angoragrl! Gosh you have been missed here!
I am sorry to hear about Henri. So sad!
Glad to hear Acorn is still here. I will never forget the photo of his most disapproving look. ^_^
I love your birds… but oh my goodness about Henri! He was one of my absolute favorite buns on here! I used to show him to EVERYONE!

I love that pic too! The mud I got him out of was actually in my house! Lol. I had some dirt in the basement and he got himself wet somehow and then went rooting around in the dirt which made for one very messy bunny! The bath pictures were great though I’m not sure he was too happy with me about the bath itself.
Here’s one of him with Acorn. I actually gave him a haircut right before I took this one!

You mean this one?

Lol, I get this look a lot still.
ooooo! Acorn looks like Sammy. I forgot. I always loved his looks too.
Um *gulp* Noo..no that’s not the one but…yikes! 0_o I think I just lost about five inches in height shriveling under that eye. X_X
lolz…I’ll have to look in my rouges gallery of BB.com to see if I can find it. Henri was in the photo, but all you could see was his furry bum next to Acorn’s face. ^_^
