I love my little bunneh, currently named “Ganache”. He is so cute, plush, and adorable. But OMG…he seems to be rather, well, uhm…dim.
Does that make me a bad bunneh-mommy for saying that?
Some very recent examples of his not-too-smart behavior which has caused me to laugh to tears and nearly fall over:
– One night, as I swept the floor of his room, my rabbit decided that he couldn’t wait for me to give him his nightly treat, but would help himself, thankyouverymuch. The bunneh-basket of treats, brushes, and other maintenance items is on the top shelf of a bookshelf in his room. He periscoped and, reaching with all his power, managed to get the tips of his front paws even with the bottom shelf. He gave a little hop and OMG! managed toget his front paws on the shelf…but his hind legs were just barely not touching the floor. His eyes got huge and he hung there, frozen in the moment of what seemed like a good idea going horribly wrong. I came to his rescue, but couldn’t stop laughing for the next half hour. He never tried it again, to my knowledge.
– If I am holding a treat for him and he sees me across the room, 3 times out of 5, he forgets to stop as he runs to me, sometimes ramming his head into my hand if he moves too fast and I don’t have time to react. If I do, he doesn’t stop until he is up on my lap, head well past my outstretched hand, wondering where the heck the treat went and wondering what the heck I’m laughing at…usually responding by head-bumping my nose or cheek.
– He has not yet grasped the concept of begging, usually grabbing a mouthful of hay on his way to me if I am anywhere near his treats. He will periscope, ears back, eyes pleading for me to feed him, the poor, innocent, starving bunny…hay hanging out of his mouth as he chews on auto-pilot.
Am I a mean mommy?
