It’s a girl!

Just came back from the vet with Nixie. She’s a girl!!  Very excited and also nervous about the actual bonding now with two females..

I was just wondering though…Nixie seems to enjoy, or at least not mind, car rides. Is that possible or does it really stress out all rabbits? Most of the time she’ll sit right in my lap with her ears up, checking everything out. Wen she was in her carrier after the vet she just laid stretched out and looked comfy. I just want to make sure I’m not really freaking her out cause I like taking her around places.

Some bunnies are more laid back than others. I’ve heard that it’s a general trend among large breeds to be calmer… what breed is Nixie? I have a mini rex and he has a quirky personality, but he loves car rides. He likes sitting in my lap when I’m driving too (though… as much fun as it is to let him ride in my lap, I usually keep him in his carrier for safety ) I’ve taken Leroy to the pet store a few times and put him in the baby seat of the cart! He seemed to like riding around and looking at everything. I’ve taken him to my parents’ house and he just checked everything out and then settled in… The amount of traveling and such that you do with your rabbit really depends on the rabbit’s personality – some people even take their rabbit camping. When you do take her out, just make sure that she’s safe (ex: don’t let her eat grass that you even suspect might have been fertilized or sprayed w pesticides, and be careful around unknown dogs and cats) and if she does start to get stressed out or too hot/cold, take her out of the situation. And good luck with the bonding! One tip… are they going to be spayed? Usually spayed/neutered bunnies are easier to bond.

Her mom is a rex I think, and her dad is half angora. So I’m assuming she’ll be a pretty good sized bun. She’s still too small for the harness I have but I’ll probably take her out more places once she can wear that. I take her to the place where I got her every so often and the woman who owns the place lets her run around with her last two siblings and mother that are still there. It’s so cute

Thanks for all your good advice, I really think she likes traveling around so that makes me happy. And I think it’s better cause she’s younger and pretty much has no fear wherever she is..haha :p
 

Oh, and I will be getting her spayed when she’s old enough. Marlee has already been spayed.

My rabbits travel with me a fair bit (going to be more next year pretty much half the week spend in a different town) I have taken them on a few trips the vet is a good 1/2 an hour away and neither really cared about that and then the other day i took them on a 45min ride to a friends house and then let them out and they had a play and an eat and then back in the car to come home and neither seemed stressed. I met a lady in the USA who traveled with her rabbit on a airplane every few weeks for work and it was a 9 hour flight and he would go in a carry cage under the seat in front of her. She was telling me that she started him young as her last rabbit did the flight once and was so stressed that he had to spend time in hospital at the vets after doing one 9 hour trip and would freak out after if he ever saw the carry cage she rehomed him with her sisters child and he is loving that and she got another rabbits and this one started traveling at 9 weeks of age and is old hat at it now. So I guess it really does come down to the rabbit itself

Wow, I can’t imagine what an airplane would be like to a rabbit! I bet Nixie would be fine on one, but Marlee would probably be like that other rabbit..

Pepper doesn’t really LIKE car rides, but she loves it once we get there – new places to explore and sniff and people to fuss over her.  She just sort of zones out in the car and naps and then stays up all night in the hotel room bouncing around.  I even took her camping with me and a bunch of other buns last summer.

So the bottom line is – you know your rabbit.  If it bothered her, you would know.  So enjoy your travels with bunny.

we brought mj on a car ride for the first time last week and while he was pretty angry with us on the way there, he stretched out and took a nap on the way back. so perhaps they warm up to it a bit! we’re taking him with us wednesday for the christmas visit so i’ll be interested to see if he’s more excited this go around.

I can’t wait til Nix fits in the harness I have so she can explore. I was wondering, if car rides don’t really seem to stress her out will it work to take the two on a car ride when bonding? Or should I choose another “stressing” method? Marlee freezes up in the car so I think it stresses her out..

Also, I think I’ve asked this already, but, should I start bonding them now? They’re living right next to each other and are def interested, Marlee is even grooming Nixie sometimes (and nipping at her the others :/). I just feel bad because I generally give Marlee all day out of her cage and I’ve just extended a xpen to the end of my bed to lengthen Nixie’s cage, but I wish she had more time out in a bigger space. Oh, and when’s it okay to introduce them both in the open where they’re at now? Marlee probably thinks its all her territory so I don’t want her attacking the baby.

Some rabbits are cool with traveling and going to new places.  Cotton has gone places with me.   When I put him down he springs back into my arms.   Once I put him on a cardboard box at the pet store and he started chewing away. 

I learned never to put him on the ground or floor when I go someplace for he has panicked and I nearly lost him.  His harness started coming off.   Scared me too.

Ruby her   after I take her somewhere once we get home and later I go to get her she hides cuz she doesn’t like going places.   She doesn’t show fear or anything but she make sit clear she likes to stay home. 

Laith he hated going places.   He would hide his head behind something and his whole body would be visible  lol  except his head.   That was his way of showing me he wanted to stay home too.

I stopped taking him out cuz he would get so scared he would flatten out on the ground and hiding his head was a clear sign hope me stay home Mum.
