  So in my Equine Reproduction and Physiology class, we have these mares we watch and we are supposed to be out for the birthing of the foal. But, last night, our mare foaled without notice the day of. She showed absolutely no signs of foaling that day, but when the manager came to the barn, she checked her security cameras in the office and saw that there was a white spot on the floor of the stall of River. When she went outside, she noticed a little filly still laying on the ground. Her nickname is Gem. Still trying to figure out her registered name. I took quite a few pictures and a cute video of her trying to lie down (sorry if the quality of crap and it is rather dark in the stall area). Anways, here is Gem and her mommy River!!!

  Awhhh oh my goodness, you are so lucky you get to be around that! I’ve never seen a foal in person before. Adorable!

  There are going to be so many others and they get to be turned out altogether soon in the big pasture to play! There are 6 other pregnant mares!!

  Aw, she is beautiful, just like her momma!!! The way her mom walked around with her at the end of the video is adorable. I bet she is going to be a good momma.

  She’s beautiful! It’s so amazing how quickly they can stand up and walk around.
  
  I’ve only seen one foaling in my life and it lucked out that I bought the filly when she was weaned so I knew my horse since the second she was born. I really wish I had pics of the foaling but it was just coincidence that I happened to walk in the barn while her foot was sticking out of Mama. It was scary when she was born, her tongue was all hanging out of her mouth, we thought she was dead. Lolz, my Mom was freaking out.

  Elrohwen – she has finally figured out how to lay down, though, its still not graceful looking… she just puts all feet in one little area and then folds her legs and plops down hahaha she is just a doll.
