My bunny has been pretty gassy lately. She’s been eating and pooping however I can hear gurgling in her stomach and she grinds her teeth. She is on meloxicam and gabapentin so I was wondering if mylicon gas drops would be safe for her. I used to give her the ovol gas drops but I want to be able to get it in store so I can help her asap. The ingredients in the mylicon are different to ovol so I just wanted to check if the one I’m getting is fine.

Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium, Citric Acid, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Natural Flavors, Polysorbate 60, Potassium Sorbate, Purified Water, Sodium Benzoate, Sorbitan Monostearate, Sorbitol, Xanthan Gum

anybody know whys she might be gassy? It just started yesterday and she used to have gas problems in the past too. I would give her dried herbs to help with gas and digestion but I left them somewhere. Any grocery store herbs that can help with gas? I don’t even give her gassy vegetables, her pellets are the garden select oxbow ones, and she has access to hay at all times.

Mylicon is one brand name that makes simeticone. If it says its simethicone as the active ingredient, then it should be safe to use!

Meloxicam is often hard on the tummy, especially with prolonged used. Famotidine (brand name pepcid) can help with that. It’s an OTC med, but it comes in the form of pills, so it needs to be dissolved in water and dosed with a syringe. You could ask the vet that’s prescribing the meloxicam and gabapentin.

Is she molting? The most common cause for gas is molting though. Simethicone baby gas drops (any brand, as long as the main ingredient is simethicone, strength varies between 20-40 mg/ml but either strength is fine, you cant really accidentally overdose it.

Meloxicam and gabapentin won’t interact with simethicone baby gasdrops.

Mint is traditionally used for gastric upset, and most buns like mint leaves (normal peppermint).

              Thank you for the replies!
She seems to be doing a little better after two doses, massages, and getting her to move around a bit.

I did not know meloxicam was hard on the tummy, just that it can cause issues to the kidneys. I will ask my vet about that. She is molting and unfortunately I haven’t been able to groom her properly, just pluck at the loose tufts. (She is recovering from having multiple seizures some days ago, I will groom her tomorrow I just didn’t want to cause her added stress right away because that tends to trigger them for her.)

As for the herbs I’ve also read fennel helps with gas and bloat, will go to the grocery store to get some herbs for her.
