Last week one of my rabbits died and ever since then the other hasn’t been acting her normal self… Is she lonely? What do I do?

Oh gee Tammy, I am so sorry you lost one of your buns – you must be heartbroken as would be your surviving bun. My boy is a lone bun so I’m not sure if she is lonely or grieving too?, but I’m sure other BBer’s who have bonded bun’s will read your forum and can/will offer their suggestions. I just wanted to post to say that I am sorry for your loss. Take care Tammy.

Rabbits will go through a grieving period, just like humans. Did your bun get to see the deceased buns’ body? I read an article not that long ago that recommended giving about three hours of time for the good bye. The surviving bun needs to be able to see and interact with the body or they won’t be able to move on (or will at least have trouble). It’s possible that she is lonely now. The best thing to do is to spend time with her and give her extra attention. Monitor her eating and bathroom habbits- if there is a problem, your vet should be able to help you out as to what you can do specifically to help your bun.

Hugs to you, We are sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your rabbit could be grieving, spend extra time with her, it should be good for both of you.

                Awww sorry for your loss!!

Your rabbit will definitely grieve, for how long is pretty individual. You can help by making sure your bunny is in an area of the house where people are-like a living room or bedroom so they don’t feel lonely. Try giving him/her more time out to run or to be held-whichever he prefers. Make sure hes eating and drinking -they can have a reduced appetite during grieving so providing lots of his favorite veggies during this time will help keep him eating.
