  Hey everyone,
  
  Brand new to the website.
  
  I just bought my 7 week old male rex rabbit, Danzig, last week. He’s got a great, inquisitive personality and even though he’s still young, is starting to litter train already!
  
  I’ve noticed over the last day or two his coat has been becoming greasy. At first only a couple of what looked like lick-marks, has now nearly covered his full coat. I haven’t noticed him cleaning himself.
  
  He’s also acting a bit strange. He is currently lying in front of the fire, fully spread out, and often gets up and just flops back down in weird positions. This could just be part of his personality coming out, I’m not sure. This morning he was also running under and hiding in a gap he found under the oven (wasn’t turned on) and has been a bit skittish around my husband.
  
  He did eat about a 2inch piece of our peace lily when he ran into the wrong room yesterday, but his faeces seem fine and he’s drinking his water. He is eating a little less than usual. (He eats only oaten-hay).
  
  Any ideas?
  
  I’m still monitoring him at the moment, but I am a bit concerned about the oily coat.
  
  Any thoughts would be appreciated!

  Do you have a rabbit savvy vet Hannah? A vet visit would be my first recommendation especially after he has eaten a highly toxic plant. Poisoning does not always manifest immediately it can also shutdown the liver and kidneys slowly so that by the time you notice the problem it is too late.

  I haven’t taken him to a vet yet, but I believe there is a rabbit clinic just over an hour away. He seems to have really picked up, but his tummy is growling a lot. I’ll definitely follow it up tomorrow!

  If his tummy is growling it may be onset of GG stasis, and there’s most likely gas. You need to deal with this now. Do a gentle tummy massage, elevate his butt slightly so gas can escape more easy. If you have simethicone (baby gas drops) or can get some, give that to him, it’s bunny safe and breaks up gas bubbles. And make sure he keeps eating, drinking and pooping: if he stops eating and/or pooping it’s a veterinary emergency.
