The first time I let my adopted rabbit Afroditi out of the cage (We wouldnt let her go out of the cage until 3 days after the adoption), I always said “House” as well as pushing her glently and slowly to her “house” which was her hole but not her cage actually. It took several weeks for her to understand the word of “House”. When she did, she would sometimes go to her “house” on her own but at most times, she woulnt so I have to just tap her back/butt as I speak “house” and she would go to her “house” immediately.
Another thing, if I grab my rabbit (Her sides) and guide her towards to the cage door, I would let her go and she would often jump into the cage, perhaps she would understand what I want.
So, what my concern is, what else can a rabbit be trained? I mean, dogs can be taught the very basics (Such as, come, sit, open the door, speak and sort of). My rabbit knows “house”, when I move her to the cage and that’s it. I always and always call her “Afroditi” but I feel she doesnt understand that it’s her name but I dont mind, she does understand that I talk to her and how I love her.
She always runs to me when I am seated on floor or when I hold a very nice treat. But If I call her name or tell her to come, she won’t come but just pay attention.
Any tips?
