Is it okay to be part of this forum?

I want to get a bunny (larger breed) as an outdoor pet. We rent our house so cant risk a bun chewing up the rug etc.

Is it still okay to be part of this forum even with outdoor buns? He will have full access to our yard when I am outside, which I love to be.And will have a large homebuilt house with a ramp and bun proof yard of his own so when I cant let him out he can still have running room. We do have a nice cool garage and if he is well trained we have a great big basement that is nice and cool he can run around in during the hot part of the day.

Anyway what do you guys think?

Everyone is welcome here at BB! We will try our best to assist you with your questions, but keep in mind that most members have house bunnies. So our advice will likely be based off of that.

It sounds like you have put a lot of thought into this. I just want to make sure that you are aware of the dangers of keeping a bunny outdoors full-time. There are a lot of things to consider like weather, predators, security (hutch, pen, yard), etc. Plus you have to be more wary of fleas, parasites, and (depending on where you live) mosquito-transmitted diseases. This isn’t an easy decision to make, so it is good to play out all possible scenarios in your head beforehand.

I also live in a house where I can not risk my bunny chewing up anything. If you would like to it is possible to have a house bun His free time would just have to be outside Just a thought in case the only thing preventing you are the chewing possibilities.

But I don’t think anyone will judge you, Everyone here is friendly so far and while we keep our rabbits inside the community doesn’t shun those who don’t. its all about caring for and loving rabbits here.

Everyone is welcome here! But like LBJ was saying, it being oudoors is dangerous and keep in mind our advice is from indoor bunnies, and if you want tips on keeping your bun indoors we have plenty of advice!

As LBJ and Whobott have said, there are many reasons for keeping your bunny inside rather than outside. Living outside poses a variety of dangers to them, no matter how safe you think their enclosure is. This might not be what you want to hear, but I would advice you to wait to get a bun until you live somewhere where you can keep it indoors. I know you said you will let him out/spend time with him whenever you’re outside. Are you going to spend several hours, every day, out there with him? Even in the winter time? Rain or shine? In a perfect world you would, but in practice, it’s not likely to happen. I never really saw the point of having a pet that stays outside like a lawn ornament rather than being indoors and a part of the family. You won’t get much joy out of this arrangement, and neither will the bunny.

I don’t mean to sound harsh or mean, I can tell that you want to do what’s best for your future bunny with the resources you have. I just want to caution you before you jump into bunny ownership and end up in a situation that doesn’t work for either one of you.
