Unfortunately my dear Chewuby might be entering his last days.So I took my rabbit to the vet yesterday and he was going into stasis. They took him out of it but as they were trimming down some of his teeth under anestisia they found an abcess that could only be taken out through surgery. I decided agaisnt the surgery because I could barely afford it and I was concerned over quality of life.Chewuby’s vet said that the decision didn’t have to be made immediately and pain and inflammation could be controlled with medication for now. I could either go through with surgery later or enjoy his last days and have to decide to put him down. While I’m making my decision whether to invest the money for the surgery or have to humanely put him down I’m having trouble getting him to eat. I offered pellets and he ate most of them but not all of them as he usually does. He has left his lettuce untouched and as usual ignoring his hay(though I have caught his nibbling more often before this incident ) I have critical care but I’m not sure if bunny is just full or if he in fact needs to be fed with Critical Care. I was able to get him to eat a strawberry treat from Oxbow but I only offered one because he had some banana yesterday

He could have mouth pain due to the abscess. Is he on pain meds? What dose is he on? Sometimes vets prescribe too low a dosis, rabbits metabolize metacam much more efficiently and quicker than cats and dogs.

He is on pain meds as well as antibiotics. 0.5 mL of Meloxicam once a day. 0.2 mL of Marbofloxacin once a day and 0.45 mL of Tramadol twice daily. Since this morning he has eaten the rest of his pellets but his hay and salad are untouched.
