› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › Is Frank a Harlequin or a Rex?
So on my other post(pictures of my bun buns post) someone commented and thought Frank was a Harlequin. now i am confused! we rescued them from a pet store(they were dropped off with their cage sometime in the night in front of the store and they were adopting them out)
They thought that Frank might be a rex rabbit. the other day we went to the pet store and they had this BEAUTIFUL rex but it was larger then frank. we were told frank was a Standard Rex but this rabbit was bigger then frank!
I also havn’t seen a lot of ‘tortishell’ rex rabbits..
So is it possible? is frank a Harlequin or a Rex? also, what would his color pattern be called?
Looks like a rex with harlequin coloring to me.
i’ve been looking around, rex and harlequin both look pretty much the same to me..head shape and all but he is black and orange like a harlequin.
possibly a mix of both? i doubt it…
but look at him compared to the bunny in this website, they are almost the same(if you dilute the coloring)
http://www.petplanet.co.uk/petplane…lequin.htm
they even sit the same
He has a furrowed brow which is a characteristic of a rex. What are his whiskers like? Curly?
That is a crazy website – it says Harlequins only live up to 5 years….huh?
Yeah..i was just using that website for the picture. His whiskers are not curly, at least not more then my dutch and hers barely curl.
Then I think you are correct that he is a Harlequin.
Rexes have very dense velvety fur and curly whiskers. They do have the furrowed brow though that he looks to have in the photos. He’s a very handsome rabbit.
I think it’s possible he’s a harlequin breed (he is for sure the pattern). What does he weigh? There was this woman who did excellent “what is my rabbits breed?” videos on youtube. I can’t remember her name though :/
he weighs about 5- 5.5 pounds
He doesn’t really have the traditional markings on the face – half black/half orange however he certainly has the coloring. Harlequin can be breed and it can certainly be a coloring as well. LPT’s mini rex, Stormy has harlequin coloring.
I should take a picture of his back , he has the opposite markings on his back to an extent, more then his face. but he is more of a tortishell so it is hard to tell. give me a minute
LOL – I’m no breed expert but I would imagine he is a Harlequin. Even though he doesn’t have the breed standard markings on the face, doesn’t mean he’s not a Harlequin. If he were my rabbit, I would call him a Harlequin and be happy with that – or I would call him Frank :~)
Can you get a clearer shot of his whiskers? They kind of look rex-ish to me, but they are fuzzy in the pics.
I thought that initially as well MB because of the furrowed brow.
He has some bent whiskers that caught in the door before my sister left, honestly, don’t know how that happened really. needless to say, a certain bunny got quite a few treats!…but that’s why the one side is weird. i will try to get whisker pics
MB = Monkeybun ![]()
Those look like rex whiskers to me. What is his fur like?
Also, the harlequin coloring can happen on many breeds ![]()
His fur is soft like a rex but it’s not as short as a rex, his fur is almost as long as mimzy’s fur. i’m confused :p
I might be wrong but I believe true harlequin the breed not the coloring are 8 lbs +. It was in one of those youtube videos I watch. But I love how the harlequin pattern can be in many breed. I mean I have a harlequin that’s mixed with a dwarf!
The rex hair is a definite difference to me. Feels like velvet or velour. But he does have kinda rexy whiskers. It might always be a mystery what he is. I would say he’s Frank the harlequin/rex mix. ![]()
Yes, I was going to suggest a rex mix.
He does look like he had the body/face shape. But his fur doesn’t look as dense as Lolli’s. I can’t get good pics of her cause she normally turns out as a black, dense blob. LOL

That’s exactly what i was thinking. but what is the likelyness that someone is going to breed two breeds together that look so closely alike? hes beautiful ![]()
Yeah if its soft but not quite rex like, I’d say a mix as well
Theres a gorgeous lop/rex mix at the humane society here right now that I want to just pet non stop… zomg.
He’s definitely a cutie ![]()
My guess, Rex Mix with Harlequin colouring. He definitely has the look of a Rex to me. Hes such a handsome fella!
This is my Harlequin Mini-Rex, Stormy:

aw hes so cute!
I’d say he’s a Rex and a Harlequin and thoroughly and completely adorable! I just want to bury both hands in his soft plushy fur.
he is SO snuggly! hates being picked though,i love him! when you rub his face,he puts his ear down.=heart melted
