Irritation after genital shave @ vet check up

I rescued Precious 2 yrs ago and knowing nothing of her past and she’s always been on the heavy side but still able to clean herself but just not well. I took her two weeks ago to the vet for a check up before moving to a remote small town with zero vet services. While there the vet found a few ear mites & prescribed Ivermite and also decided to shave around her genital area between her butt and tail to assist with the cleaning aspect of things (which she hadn’t had done before).

I noticed last week after the move that the area was a bit red & I suspected maybe a bit of a combination of the medication, razor burn & stress from the move so I cleaned it a bit with just water & soft towel & dried well. I honestly forgot about it until today when I went to cut her nails and as you can see from the picture it’s gotten really bad really fast. I can’t get her to the vet for 2 weeks since we’re way out here and I don’t want it to get worse or for her to be in more pain. Anyone have an idea what this is or how I can ease her symptoms or some prevention to make it the 2 weeks?

All I can find on the web is syphilis, vent or scalding. She has nothing wrong anywhere else. Her nose and eyes are clear with no issues. But because there are so many factors here with the meds,stress & the shave I’m not sure which direction to go to at least prevent it from getting worse. I’m not sure if I should wash her with some antibacterial soap or keep it dry with corn starch or both.

I have a call in to her old vet but without being able to see it I’m not sure how much help I can get from her. Any experience or info anyone may have would be so helpful as I’m really worried.

Oh my goodness! Is it possible to send this photo to her old vet’s e-mail address? Getting a professional opinion is very important. Additionally, I know you say the current vet is out of the way, but can you call that vet as well? I don’t think vets would be upset if it’s something you believe is an emergency.

I know some users here have experience with necrosis in skin and butt-shaves. Unfortunately, I do not, so I have no gauge on how common or serious the image may be.

Try and email the picture to the vet that did the shave. It’s a good picture so they should be able to tell you what you should do. Meanwhile you can clean the area with saline eyewash for humans, pat dry and apply triple antibiotic cream/neosporine cream (without an added painkiller) or if you can’t get that, fucidine cream.
