Irritated left eye. Advice?

I came home to find my bunny’s left eye shut, or at least with a droopy eye lid. It seems like that eye is being really sensitive right now and she doesn’t want to keep it open…

Her eyelid looks somewhat swollen, and I’m not sure if it was from a bug bite, or perhaps because she’s been rubbing it a lot? Hopefully not something worse…

Her eye has been watering up like crazy though, since the fur underneath her eye is constantly wet. I’ve been trying to check it out today but it’s very hard to get her to open her eye fully. I just know that the area, the eyelid and flesh around the eye, is completely red.

Any advice as what it could be? I’m considering seeing a vet later today…

See a vet as soon as possible. Rabbits are usually good with getting eye irritants out with their systematic multiple eye lids, but it’s clear whatever this is cannot be solved on your rabbits lonesome. Eye problems can either be something has entered the eye from the outside, or more invasively, something in her mouth is growing into her skull, now poking and invading her eye.

A vet will be able to get a good look at the eye using the necessary lights and scopes to see what may or may not be there.

Other members may be able to provide advice on safe eye solutions, but I really think a rabbit vet is the best and most ethical option.

Plain saline solution meant for humans is safe. It probably wouldn’t hurt to flush it out. But I agree with Wick, it could be something serious like an injury. Rabbits can scratch their corneas relatively easily. All it takes sometimes is them running into something.
