I went and picked her up on Sunday. She is such a sweetheart! She is a little cage protective around feeding time, but no where near as bad as Nova. Needless to say, I’m used to it. She does move a little faster than Nova though, as Nova is kind of chunky right now.
Her name was Arsenic, but I kind of want to change it to something else. Preferably something space themed like Hubble and Nova are. I know I’ll come up with something, I just have to do a little more research! (Plus it helped that I was in Astronomy class when I got my other two…) Suggestions are welcome though! She is super sweet and actually comes up to me when I go into the room, instead of hiding like the other two do. Which means that I can actually bend down and pet her! My other two could learn a thing or two from her.
Bonding is going to be difficult though. Her and Nova are already giving eachother the eye and are VERY curious about eachother. I’ll post about that in the bonding section though and just post pictures of her here!

(Notice Nova sitting in the background…)
Wow! She’s so beautiful! What breed is she?
What about Nebula? That’s a pretty name : )
Oops. I did forget to post her breed! She is a mini rex. She seems so much bigger than my other two, but she is still very small. I do like Nebula, but it reminds me more of a spotted rabbit with all the stars and such.
She’s soo pretty. Is she a mini or regular rex? I love her coloring and her little white belly!!!![]()
Aurora! She’s beautiful. Makes me realize just how overweight my “cough” mini “cough” rex is.
oh she’s beautiful!!!!
i love her coloring. she makes me think of a milky way bar, but that could just be because i’m hungry ![]()
OH and just so you know (as you probably do…) her coloring is considering “silver marten”. looks like a rex version of my max!! ![]()

Aurora, that’s ezactly what I was going to suggest. LOL
Very pretty bun.
Oh, wow she is beautiful. And I had the same question as she looks like a regular rex in those photos, but I also know photos can be deceiving.
I also like the name Aurora! (MUCH MUCH better than Arsenic – what in the world was up with that name anyway – I wonder why she was named after a poison?)
I love her coloring – it’s like she glows around the edges.
Moonbeam?
Aurora has also been one of my favorite names. She glows like an Aurora Borealis.
Arsenic. Really. That’s like calling her Angioplasty, or Angie for short.
Ok she is so on my bunny-napping list!
So adorable!!!! She looks identical to the bunny I started to get before Marshmallow
adorable! And I agree the name “Arsenic” does not fit at all. It is not a pretty name- it is a poison- and what would you call her for short “Arse”? Arse in German means a** if I remember correctly.
I agree though you should go with constellation/space type names! – Aristotle, Orion or Galileo are quite boyish names. But I am sure you will be able to come up with a name that “fits” her.
So far I’m stuck between Aurora and Eclipse. She kind of looks like both of those awesome phenomenons. I like Moonbeam as well, but I had a pure white Angora when I was little named that. I was actually planning on getting a male rabbit so I was definitely thinking of those names Katnip (well, not Orion because I had a g-pig named that), and had kind of decided on Apollo. So much for that! I was also thinking Athena, though I don’t think it fits her. Andromeda is cute too,
I think she was named Arsenic because the other rabbit was named Toxic (a male and they weren’t bonded). Idk, I guess it was a theme kind of like what I have with my rabbits. She is too sweet to be named that though!
OH and just so you know (as you probably do…) her coloring is considering “silver marten”. looks like a rex version of my max!!
This actually was a surprise as she was listed as an Otter coloration. So I spent a few hours trying to figure out the difference between a silver marten and an otter since they looked the same to me! This is all I could find, but it is certainly interesting to me!
The tan patterned colors – tons, sliver martens and otters will show a solid color and the body along with the pinky white belly. The best way to tell the difference is to look at the triangle color. Gold or fawn marking color and it is an otter. Silvery white marking color indicates a silver marten, sable marten or smoke pearl marten. Only the otter; and tons will have the gold or fawn trim color.
I love the otter markings. I was going to buy one but then I went a shelter instead and got Mops!!! Well, the breeder at the time told me that she had never in twenty years been able to breed an otter mini rex, only standard rex. The one i liked was more chocolate than black with the gold markings you mentioned. Yours is definitely a silver marten. Boy is she gorgeous. I love the name Moonbeam…
I love the name Aurora ![]()
I think Silver Marten is actually a breed, the coloring if I am not mistaken is called “black and tan” if it’s on another breed of rabbit.
Alicia, technically, you’re right, Silver Marten is a breed of itself but since most breeds, including the Silver Marten, have been “rexed” , She would be considered a Silver Marten Rex.
Well my boyfriend has started calling her Eclipse. I’m not sure if that means it’s her name now or not, but he does seem to like her more than my other rabbits (not that they’ve ever done anything for him). To be honest, if she gets him to enjoy rabbits then I don’t care what he calls her.
She is not a black and tan in color (see picture), and silver marten is a color that is found on other breeds (though yes, it is a ‘breed’). It’s like harlequin, both a breed and a color. Gosh I wish they’d come up with different names! Anyways, I found this site, which lists showable mini rex colors. Since she was show quality I am guessing that she is in fact otter. I think my camera also makes her look more washed out than she actually is as well. I still need someone to explain better what the actual differences between the colors are!

Whatever she is, just enjoy her, she is really lovely. congrats! ![]()
Beautiful is what she is! Congratulations!
The brown colour bteween the black and white areas does point to Black otter colouring. I found this page (link below) but the descriptions and pics don’t quite fit – they mention cream whereas I see white. Maybe your girl is a Silver Marten Rex(breed) in black otter colouring – is that possible? http://www.nationalrexrc.org/black_otter.htm
Ok “Arsenic” is a sucky name for a rabbit – sorry to anyone reading who loves the name. Your alternatives are much better suited for such a beautiful rabbit. Aurora is pretty but for name to suit her look – Eclipse wins! She’s like a solar eclispse. That’s a nice name, there may be other terms that mean the same thing too but Nova, Hubble and Eclipse sounds nice.
i bet max is an otter than as well!!
his triangle is just like aurora/eclipses- tanish, not white.
She’s stunning. Her fur does glow – it’s a rich coffee bean color to me. She looks like she’d be soft to snuggle with – if she would let you do that. My rex isn’t much of a snuggler but she doesn’t mind pets.
CUTE I love the coloring! Congrats on the new bunny!!
Astronomy names (I like moons
)
Rhea
Dione
Ariel
Charon
& non moon name Hayley ![]()
Okay, maybe they named her Arsenic cause she is soooo pretty, that with just one look – you fall over dead!
I love the Astronomy themed names!
Thank you Jerseygirl! That website explained it well enough that I think she is for sure an otter. I think my camera makes her look more washed out in some pictures. The flash makes her belly look whiter than it actually is. I will take her out on the lawn tomorrow and get some pictures in natural light. Hopefully that will help and I’ll get a cute one to match Nova and Hubble in my signature! You’re right Petzy, I will just enjoy her, though I did kind of want to know (and be able to explain it) so that when people ask I can answer. Plus There’s the bunny color survey coming up!
After looking at pictures of eclipses I think she really does look like that. Eclipse it is! Now on to bonding!
What a beautiful rexy!!! Having 2 myself I am pretty bias!!! ![]()
