Hi everyone! I recently discovered the Binky Bunny site, and it looks like a great resource. I’d like to introduce myself, and my bunny, Captain Danger.

Captain Danger is a smart, energetic, sweet, and stubborn Holland Lop.  He’s 1.5 years old, and we adopted him one year ago from a college student who no longer wanted him   He immediately made himself at home, let our two cats know who’s boss, peed on everything (until we had him neutered), and generally began filling the enormous hole in our lives after our previous Holland Lop, Mr. Hop Hop, passed away, leaving us completely heartbroken

Captain Danger has had lots of health problems in his young life–within the first six months we had him, he had pinworms, fur mites, scabbing and fur loss under his chin (we never figured out the exact cause of this), and then E. caniculi, which caused a cataract in his eye.  All of the minor conditions have been treated and have cleared up.  Under the care of our vet (who we see a lot) and our vetrinary opthamologist, we’ve been treating the E. caniculi with fendbendazole–successful so far… but I’ll be posting soon for some advice from other people who have dealt with E. caniculi before…

Throughout all this, Captain Danger has been as spunky and happy as could be–he’s so energetic, and he brings a lot of joy to our lives

(Oh, and I’m a graduate student working on completing my PhD. I enjoy cooking, traveling, gardening, hiking, canoing and gardening… )

Welcome to the forums! Thank you for adopting Captain Danger and being willing to stick with him through his health difficulties. In what area are you pursuing your PhD? You should post some pics of your bun, just sayin’…

            Thanks!

My PhD is in Conservation Biology – I study restoration ecology and invasive plant species.
I tried to include a picture of Captain Danger in the original post, but the photo doesn’t seem to have posted… I figured maybe it was one of the “glitches” the website is warning us about? My avatar picture is of Captain Danger, though that’s too small to fully appreciate his cute-ness

ETA: Added the picture!  I posted this too late last night and missed the last step of adding the picture to my original post.  I’ll post more when I have some free time…

Welcome to you and Capt. Danger! He’s adorable! In that last photo of him sleeping on his side, he looks like a toy rabbit, I almost thought it was! I’m sure, however, you have the poops to prove it isn’t! LOL

Welcome! He is adorable, and lucky to find a family willing to go through so much for him.

Your PhD sounds fascinating – I am in my first semester of an Ecology/Evolution master’s program – my bun has already been “helping” me by chewing the corners of papers I’m trying to read (my office mates find it hilarious that my bunny eats my homework!).

@ lashkay – I know, he totally looks like a little stuffed toy bunny when he conks out on his side like that. I always want so desperately to sneak over and pet that fuzzy belly, but I know he’d jump right up and run away and look at me all indignantly if I tried a mean trick like that

@ Molzy – congrats on starting your Masters program! I think if I could go back in time, I’d opt for a Masters instead of a PhD… 8 years in, and the novelty of the PhD has totally worn off But I do really like my research topic… just VERY ready to be done with the PhD process. And yes, between my bunny chewing and digging through my stacks of papers, and my cats constantly walking across my keyboard and knocking pens to the floor, it’s no wonder it’s taking me 8 years to finish! Good luck to you!
