I have an interview tomorrow. It was sort of last minute. They said they wanted me to come in, but when I called this afternoon the only time they had available was for tomorrow. I’m not sure what to wear. This is for a job with the public school system.

There is a lot of snow on the ground right now. We got about a foot of snow a week ago. It has been slowly melting and the ground is constantly wet during the day. They said we would be getting a rain/snow mix tomorrow. I was thinking of wearing pants and a cardigan. I don’t have a lot of dress shoes that would be appropriate. I have some flats. I’m just worried I’m going to ruin them. What if the parking lot is full of puddles?

I have a pair of black pants, but I don’t think I should wear them since they are a magnet for fuzz (rabbit hair, what else?). I have some gray “khakis”, would those be okay?

I would take your dressiest shoes and put them on inside. I think gray or khaki would be fine. A pretty blouse underneath your cardigan would be good.

Also if you don’t usually wear make-up a bit is appropriate as well. Tinted moisturizer, light blush, lip gloss and mascara minimum.

          Good luck :~)

I agree about wearing nice shoes, but putting them on once you get inside. I’m sure they’ll understand if you need to leave boots somewhere or something. For pants, I’d wear anything wool over khaki if you have nice wool pants – they just hang so nicely compared to simple cotton khakis.

Thanks! I haven’t interviewed for anything for a really long time, so I hope I don’t say anything stupid. I was just worried that it would look unprofessional if I came in there carrying my shoes.

Sarita – A blouse under the cardigan is a good idea, that will dress it up but it won’t look too dressy.

Elrohwen – I owned a pair of wool blend pants once. I hated them. So freaking hot! I would literally be sweating my buns off at work so I put them in the donation bin. Do you think khaki is too casual? The only other thing I own is black polyester dress pants. I was worried they would look too stuffy with my cardigan, plus I would be paranoid about fuzz on me. I have to wear them to work and I’m constantly attacking them with strips of tape.

I think khaki can be dressy, it all depends on the design, shade, and what you wear it with. I have a pair of khaki pants that are dressy looking and I have to wear it with collared blouses and dress shoes (school dress code).

I’d wear the black dress pants and run a lint roller over them when you get out of your car. If you don’t have a lint roller and don’t have time to pick one up before the interview, just use a whole bunch of masking tape wrapped around your hand sticky-side out.

Well, I wore the khakis (dark gray). I think I looked nice.

I guess I got the job. They didn’t really ask me if I wanted the job or not. LOL, they just took me to the HR office after my interview and next thing I knew I was filling out paperwork for payroll and taxes. They said I could do science, social studies, and.. math. Eeep! Math? I’m scared now because I suck at math. They were just going off of my transcripts.

                            Thank you ladies!

Elrohwen – I will be working with the gifted program. They will give me all of the materials that need to be covered for a particular student and then I will work through it with them at their own pace. It’s one-on-one teaching.

That sounds really fun! I don’t think I could manage a group of kids, but one-on-one tutoring/teaching is really rewarding.

I don’t think I could handle a group of kids either. I prefer working with older kids, middle school/high school. But if they need me for elementary, that’s okay. We will have to wait and see what happens. I have to wait for them to match my skills up with an appropriate student.

Is that like that TAG (talented and gifted) program?

bunnyfriend – It might be similar. They do things so differently now than when I was in elementary school. I just remember everyone being divided up according to their level so that way kids that picked up on things quickly wouldn’t get held back by kids that needed more repetition.

Thanks Pandorachik! I suck at math, but I can figure stuff out if you give me enough time.. sometimes. LOL I’m just not so comfortable when it comes to telling someone else how to do something. I would worry I’m doing it wrong or not explaining it right.
