        Hello

So some of you may or may not have seen my other post about my baby bunny Clark having suspected E.Cuniculi.
If not, the short version is I brought him home and he got sick on day 6 so had to rush him to the vets, they think e.cuniculi but yesterday he’s had bloodwork done to confirm this (awaiting callback)

I’m just wondering if anyone knows of any insurance policies or anything for rabbits ehich would cover “pre-existing conditions” as despite insuring my bunny the week before I got him but having the policy cover start date the day I brought him home, my insurance won’t cover anything to do with this illness as it happened “within the first 14 days of the policy start date” and the vet has told me this could be a lifelong condition so basically they’re telling me he’s NOT insured for life as it advertises and I don’t work an amazing job so this is seriously breaking my bank

          Where do you live?
I’m insured with Petplan in the UK. They offer ‘cover for life’ as you have said but it depends on bunny not having any heath issues in the first 14 days (presumably to prevent people from insuring their rabbit if they think they’re getting sick).

It’s purely going to be on the insurers discretion whether they will cover your rabbit or not. I suggest ringing round/enquiring online with a few providers and seeing if any of them will cover you. I’m afraid that I doubt you will easily find cover for a bunny with e.c. but I could be wrong! The other thing is that if someone will provide insurance it’s likely to be at a very inflated price. It’s probably best to wait until you’re sure if it’s e.c. or not before doing this though.

I feel for you, it is a very unfortunate circumstance that anyone could end up in!

Took him to another vet and had bloods done, some sort of infection (but still may have stemmed from e.c.) on the mend now very happy boy and won’t stop licking me ?
Couldn’t find insurance which would cover existing conditions unfortunately but I’ve stick with the provider he’s with still for future reference

If you are in the US, try Pet Assure. The supposedly cover rabbits and pre-existing conditions.

Great to hear he’s doing better now!

I think Pet Assurance is more of a discount program (getting 25% from participating vets); Nationwide Insurance is the pet-insurance carrier. That being said, I intend to get both, as I’m still unclear as to whether Nationwide’s program covers routine wellness checks and such or is limited to emergencies (I’ve read it’s emergency-centric but the brochure I got in my Friends of Rabbits adoption bag says it covers wellness exams and routine procedures, so ??? )
