hey! my bun, liefie , was a bit over excited today and took a tuble. i checked her legs etc and she was fine and started playing soon after! i did notice a cut on her lip though. its 2 small lines with no active bleeding, just looks like bruises(like when one bites your lip by accident) i gave her hay and she eats it and small bits of carrot, but refuses the larger pieces (i think it still pushes against the lp and it might be uncomfortable) i checked her teath and it seems fine. she is still bouncing around fine. should i be worried? i attached 2 images… its a funny angle, but you can see the nose and lip. please help!

Its upside down… So the black hole at the top is her mouth! The cut is to the right…

I can’t tell anything from the picture but if it’s just a lip bite, keep an eye on it for the next week. If it starts to show signs of infection (redness, swelling, discharge), take her in to your rabbit vet for examination.

Thanx so much… Its seems ok still, but will keep an eye on it… Someone said to put honey on as it is a natural anti-bacterial agent… But she runs for the bed when she smells iit! So I’m just watching it closely… I’ve had all kinds of pets (incl a lion my dad still owns and a chameleon) and rabbits are by far the most interesting… Very picky! But I love it!

Hmmm, I just looked up the honey thing and it seems that it’s only very specific types of honey. It all depends on the honeys make-up. So I don’t think it will do much. The article says that the reason also has a lot to do with hydrogen peroxide but I know there have been a lot more recent studies done that have concluded that hydrogen peroxide does not actually kill bacteria.

I would just keep an eye on it like Beka said!

It’s by his mouth so I wouldn’t put anything on it without a vet’s direction. He might end up licking the area and aggravate it more.
