So we noticed Nachos’ toe on her back right leg was sticking straight up into the air. We gave it a day to see if it was just a sprain or something minor but it was still upright so we took her to the vets. She’s had an x ray and it’s showing the bone isn’t broken or dislocated (thankfully) but the bone has moved inbetween the ankle and the toe joints. The vet suspects that she has damaged her ligaments which is causing the toe to stay upright.

He suggesting putting the foot in a dressing for 4 weeks, but also said that this rarely works and most likely it won’t heal properly. Is this correct or does anyone know of anything else that could be done to help her if the dressing doesnt work? I was thinking physio but not sure if it would work. Also is there anything I can do to help her mobility while she has the dressing on? They have wrapped her foot and leg up to the hip so she can barely use her leg. She’s holding it out to a side and now dragging it behind her as she kept getting her leg caught on things in her cage.

No personal experience with this, but I imagine that a careful readjustment performed by a rabbit savvy vet, followed by a binding, could help. At this point, an upright toe could lead to further injury (it could snag on something during normal movement and break, or scratch an eye while grooming, etc). Hoping to bump this thread so others see it.

Thanks, I’m honestly thinking about taking the dressing off. She can barely walk with it on, and has resorted to dragging it behind her most of the time. So im thinking she’s gunna develop muscle wastage in that leg. Because she’s not as mobile my other bun has started to become a pest and eat her food and keep bothering her to move when he knows she can’t. I’m gunna give it the weekend as I know she’s still getting used to it and call my get for more advice, and potentially seperate them until she’s more mobile.

My normal vet is normally really good with the buns, and there’s another more specialist vet but its too far for her to travel (she goes into stasis easily when driving)

Poor darling… do a risk assessment, but I’d have a bunny guru vet give you a second opinion if there’s any way (like, maybe he visits a clinic nearer you once a month like some specialists do)
