        Hi everyone,

Hope everyone been well. I’ve been offline for a few months after having to deal with the loss of my beautiful Gizmo (dog). I’ve been a complete emotional mess since his passing. He was my best friend… I’ll post more about what happened later in a tribute sort of post.

Anyway, I ask that everyone please sign and share along this petition. In Queensland, Australia, it is illegal to have a rabbit as a pet due to the governments silly beliefs that pet rabbits will escape, breed and cause havoc in the wild. Now if people are caught with having a bunny in Queensand, the owners can be fined up to $40,000 (I believe) as well as having the sweet bunny destroyed.

So please, sign this petition. We know that domesticated rabbits cannot survive in the wild, and to be honest, I don’t see a problem if rabits are desexed. Another this that bothers me is that fact that because of how cruel our Government is here. They allow the Myxoma virus to kill off wild bunnies to “control the pets population”, as a result, rabbits suffer as we are not allowed to vacinate our rabbits against this deadly desease.

        Please read the links below:

        Please sign the petiton below:

Please, please, please sign this and share it around. Together we can make a change

          Signed.

I agree CM. if desexed, I can’t see a problem.
So many rabbits in shelters in other States now could find homes in Qld.

Qld is in a position to establish some laws regarding rabbit ownership that could really benefit the welfare of pet rabbits.
          Registration of ownership,
allow only desex rabbits with vet certificate, continue to ban breeding, no pet shop sales of rabbits (unless petshop has acquired desexed rabbits).
A hefty fine for dumping rabbits…
One downside I see is if owners start to surrender rabbits to shelters, it could put strain on that system. Not sure what regulation could minimize this that would still benefit the rabbits.

Actually, if petshops don’t have a source of getting rabbits, they might be keen to acquire pets that need rehoming. Possibly they could take surrenders as they’d make a profit. Mmm…

Anyway, my point of view is with regulation, Qld can make some new rules with foresight to prevent future problems. Making it legal to have pet bunnies means they’ll be less of those funny long eared guinea pigs too.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Chesters Mommy.

This is a very weird policy. What about cats and dogs escaping? Are they not worried about that? What’s so much scarier about bunnies? It’s pretty odd that they single out rabbits.

I hope they fix this soon, it makes no sense. Nice job, Chesters Mommy!

My condolences on the loss of your friend.

I signed. A world without bunnies. That’s not a world I would want to live in.

Thank you everyone. I miss Gizmo so much He was my baby.

Thank you all for signing! And as GD mentioned, you don’t need to reside in Australia to sign.

There shouldn’t be a problem with having desexed, registered bunnies as pets in QLD. I hope they get rid of this stupid law. A world without bunnies would not be a fun place.

Please share the link around if possible. We need our voices heard!
