I just got the Dog Whisperer (Cesar Millan) Dvd from my local library.  I’ve watched three episodes so far and it’s fascinating!  The owners even more so than the dogs sometimes!  But it has got me wondering if there are any books about Natural Rabbit behaviours.  i.e The dog behavioural info comes from studying the wild dogs to gain clues about the domesticated dog and our relationship to them.  There must be studies of wild rabbit behaviour that can relate to the domestic pet.  I know pet guide books touch on the subject a bit (prey instincts, burrowing etc) but I would like to read something more in depth.

Has anyone come across this type of info or can suggest a title of a good book?

Good luck. I don’t know of any books but if you want to write one yourself come to Canberra for a million wild bunnies! The little darlings are everywhere and it’s so cute watching thier behaviour, like our buns are copying them or something.

Don’t worry K&K. I’m falling too  It’s great how he’s so subtle in re-training the owner and takes 10 sec to re-train the dog! Education/Information!

Cassi, you’re onto something you know. Jane Goodall is in Australia at the moment. Maybe I’ll hook up with her and get some tips. I could just camp out at the farm I grew up on and observe those rabbits but a trip to Canberra sounds better. You could come out and feed me food every once in a while.

You know, this is inspiring a reality tv show concept.  Reality Rabbits etc.  Contestants live amoungst wild rabbits and have to follow the rules.  If you break them, you go before  the Council of Disapproving Rabbits and they vote whether you get kicked out of the warren or just reprimanded with butt time…

I would be interested in learning more about natural rabbit behaviours as well. I’m totally into natural horsemanship and learning about how to communicate with my horses by using “their language”. I’d love to find a similar book on rabbits. I think I’ll do a search on Amazon and see if I can find anything.

i believe this book has a lot on rabbit behavior, moreso than other petcare books.  i can’t personalyl vouch for it b/c i do not own it, but i think BB and others do.  on amazon you can click the book cover to “look inside” and view the table of contents and index.  is does talk some about wild rabbit behavior.

and this is just a great book altogether… it talks about a variety of topics, bunnies in pop culture and old stories… current issues.

I recently purchased the book “Why Does my Rabbit…” (which Beka gave a link to) and am just starting to read it (about 50 pages in) and it tells alot about how bunnies live in the wild and how it affects our sweet house buns. So far it seems like just the type of book your looking for.

Yes Beka so far I am liking it very much – very informative. It helps me understand my buns behavior better which I believe will help me care for them better and that’s the most important thing to me.

The book “Why does my Rabbit….” is great! I wish there were more books out there like this one on rabbit behavior.
