I think my little princess bunny is deaf, or at least hearing-impaired. You can walk up behind her making noise, going, “Hey Flops! Hey, little bunny, whatcha doing?” and she won’t react until she sees you or you shadow, and then she FREAKS OUT. I try to rattle her cage very gently when I walk over to it or turn on a light so she knows I’m coming, but sometimes there’s nothing I can really do to make my presence known, and I feel SO TERRIBLE when I frighten her. I’ve never had a special-needs pet before, except when my parents’ Samoyed got really old and had arthritis so he had to be lifted up stairs and helped up from a lying position, but I was too young at the time to understand that he needed special care. Can you guys give me a starting point to help make Flopsy’s life a little easier? I’ve been Googling, but there seems to not be nearly as much info on hearing-impaired rabbits as there is for cats and dogs. =(  Anything you guys can give me would help immensely!

Does anyone besides me find it odd that so many lop mums are posting about sudden realization of deafness in their bunnies?
How many of you think this is a recent development as opposed to something long term? Just curious.

Well, i know he could hear before, his little ears would swivel around and listen to everything. Now…

I know Wilbur could hear when I first got her. Today I banged two pots behind her and got no reaction. It is making me so sad, I really don’t even want to know at this point because I like talking to her.

Edit: and what’s even weirder is that she recently gained partial control of her ears. When I first got her she would startle at noises, now she moves her ears but not in correlation to a noise and doesn’t react any other way.
