        Hi Guys,

I think Fiona sat in her own pee. I noticed that her bottom was stained yellow, as were her legs. I checked around and saw that she had peed in her hay box, and she sits in there all the time. Is it possible that she could have just sat in her pee? Or did she pee on herself? I know that is a much more serious issue. I attached a picture of her bottom.

I’m pretty sure it’s okay. I’ve found that rabbits with especially light fur usually have stains on their bottoms and the bottoms of their feet. Do her fore paws have the same stain or lighter versions of it? My two boys have white paws with the same stains, so I’m 90% sure it’s normal.

I’ve never seen her bottom like this but her feet have always been yellow!

It is curious that it is all over her bum. What kind of litter do you use? Is it paper bedding or some absorbent pellet?

If you use paper litter, then I would say she probably just sat in a spot that was overly saturated. That stuff can get soaked pretty quickly, like a wet paper towel. I use equine pellets as bedding, and it is super absorbent so if they pee it turns from a hard compressed pellet into a damp crumble.

For further examination, see how much she pees and whether the peeing seems well executed or strained. Incontinence can lead to urine scalding, but if there is a problem and it’s addressed early, you can prevent that happening. Urine stained fur and tan paws typically grow out and become regularly colored after shedding so in the long-term, if you notice it’s constantly stained, consider using a litter screen and changing litter more often/putting more in.

I use paper bedding! She pees in her hay box sometimes, and she did that today. That’s why I thought there was a chance that she could have sat in it on accident.
Thank you, Wick I will do that! She hasn’t peed that much today, but sometimes that happens. I will keep an eye.
