I’m one of Kallipso’s friend, you can call me Dottie; Long story short my dad is illiterate, he was born and raised in America but got expelled from school when he was 13 or 14 years old and never received the rest of his education. Well no matter what I tell him he seems to think that rabbits are happy and fine in this sort of thing: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Single-Door-Folding-Metal-Crate/dp/B00QAVO29I/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1542783105&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=Dog+kennel&psc=1

24/7. He knows that I have done over 100 hours of research on rabbits and he still won’t listen. I’ve also been trying to get him watch videos, not too long maybe 3 or 4 minutes however he ALWAYS says that he doesn’t have time to watch them. I’ve been putting my foot down and been sort of fighting/arguing with him but he just refuses to listen. I would love to free roam but my sister adopted 2 cats that are less than friendly to other animals and they’re fast, every time you open a door they magically appear [[–which makes floor time extremely difficult especially since I don’t have a lock for my door and everyone likes to come in without permission and at random times–]] so only one room free roam won’t work either; even though I had my bunny first he gets the short end of the stick. My mom refuses to go against my dad so recruiting her is a no go. What advice can you give me on how to deal with my family and make things better for my boy?

I’m sorry to hear about your struggles, but it’s great to hear you are trying.

Giving advice about family dynamics is really difficult because as strangers, we’re unsure of the consequences of our advice. That being said, below are some things that come to mind.

If possible, perhaps you can take initiative and explain later. Buy an xpen or make a better setup so they can see what it’s like, then have a discussion with them after the fact. Sometimes parents say no because they imagine it being a lot of work, but when it’s already done, they are more accepting.

Another could be just doing all the work and just asking for the final “ok”. Find the better setup, explain what you’ll do, and ask, can I do this tomorrow. You won’t need to do anything. That may be more appealing.

This is hard. Could you maybe put his xpen in your room, so it’s not bothering any of your family and they practically won’t even know that he’s there? And then depending on the size of your room you could even let him free roam your room so a big cage isn’t taking up loads of space.
