I have a lot of really positive updates on my baby bun, Harlow!

The first one is, after a second vet appointment, Harlow’s doctor quickly ruled out the possibility of being pregnant! Harlow was going through a pretty stressful false pregnancy and it worried me because she was sold to me as a boy bunny, housed with other rabbits, and I had not had her for a month at this point. Because Harlow is my first bun, I was so worried! But 80 dollars and two appointments later she has passed the health check without little babies growing inside her!

The second is that since she is not pregnant, I went and scheduled her spay appointment for this Tuesday. I will be dropping her off at 8 in the morning before going to class. I’m super worried about this, but I know after it’s all said and done it will not only be nice for me, but the best for Harlow!

The third is Harlow’s cage grids came in the mail and my boyfriend helped me put together a beautiful cage that is four grids long, two grids wide, and two grids high. I didn’t think this would be enough room, but for a small Lionhead there seems to be PLENTY of room for her. We decided to put off on the second floor until after she’s spayed. I plan on getting her a brother/sister sometime in the future so I’ll probably put the second floor in once they’re bonded together. But she finally got out of the pet store cage and can actually HOP now! She has only been in this new cage for one night, but it has already made major improvements in her attitude! She is FAR less aggressive, she is letting me pet her again. She’s running around and playing with all her toys again so I’m so so so happy about that! it makes me happy knowing i’m making her happy

The last is since her new cage came in, she spend her first night on fleece and has started the process of potty training! She has only peed in her litter box, and only had a few poops outside of her litter box too! So she’s grasping the concept faster than I thought she would. I’m so proud of my little bun! We were struggling there for a while when she turned into the devil bunny but honestly, having a bigger cage alone has helped so much. I do believe once she gets spayed the small issues were having right now will go away and I’ll have my happy bunny back.

Sorry for such a long post. Harlow is my first bun so this whole process is new to me and i’ve been stressing a lot with the temperament change and the loads of money I’ve been spilling into giving her the best. Now I’m starting to truly see the joys of being a bunny owner and I’m just so darn excited to see what’s in store for us in the future.

Great news! I’m glad she wasn’t pregnant after all, it would’ve meant so much unexpected work for you, and possibly family-quarrels.
It’s definitely the best thing for her to be spayed, girl bunnies have a high risk of uterine cancer, they can also get other types of reproductive tract disorders like pyometra. But it is always scary to have your bun undergo any type of procedure that involves full anesthesia.

Her new cage sounds lovely. It is wise not to add a second floor until she’s spayed and has healed for like 1-2 weeks, before that she shouldn’t do any climbing.

I could have taken the heat from the family-quarrels. At the end of the day I was more concerned about her own health.

And yes, I had planned on putting the second floor in but we decided to not even try because of how soon she’s getting spayed. She has plenty of room to run while in her cage now, and she still has the strip in front of my closet and door to run out of her cage so I’m not concerned about putting it in right away. The cage grids are all white and the fleece I have down is a light cotton candy pink, so it matches the rest of my room and looks completely adorable.

Thank you all! I’m so happy. I was so worried that she hated me there for a while. Her hormonal switch flipped over night and I took it very personally. So seeing how well she’s doing makes me feel all the money I’ve put into her so far has payed off and she really does appreciate me. its a wonderful feeling.

I super nervous about her surgery tomorrow. It’s going to be hard seeing her in pain. I just hope she makes it through fine. She’s such a wonderful little girl. I’m excited for our future together.
