When I got Abby I bought 50 lbs of rabbits food to stock up since it was on sale and I knew she would eat a lot.  It all came in 10 lbs bags so it will stay fresh.  I give her 3/4 of a cup of pellets since she is 12 lbs.  I cut back from the full cup she was getting at the shelter.  I was shocked this morning when I emptied my first 10 lb bag of pellets!  I checked the calander and I’ve had her exactly 45 days.  10 lbs of pellets in 45 days?!  That’s 80 lbs of pellets a year!

I’ve also gone through half a bale of fresh timothy hay.  That’s about 25 lbs of hay.

Just thought I’d share how much my big bunny girl eats.

Wow! I wonder if you could cut down on her pellets. I don’t know. Maybe that wouldn’t be good. Big girl needs lots of food I guess! lol

Wow that’s a lot of pellets! I thought adult bunnies only got like, 1/4 cup of pellets? Is there a book on this stuff, LOL, it seems to be different for every bunny!

If you go by the House Rabbit guidelines, it’s 1/4 – 1/2 cup of pellets for every 6 lbs. That would be 1/2 – 1 cup for her since she’s 12 lbs. So I go right in between. The vet said she’s at a healthy weight and doesn’t want to see her gain or lose weight. She gets a lot of veggies too. We go through a bundle of cilantro, a bundle of parsley and 2-3 heads of romaine a week.

Well, pellets are normally the least expensive part of the diet compared to hay and veggies anyway. She just likes her food I guess LOL.
