Okay so, I got these Apple Honey Cookies from the Binky Bunny Store: https://store.binkybunny.com/apple-honey-cookies-apd-p78.aspx

I was excited to get him a new treat to possibly learn some new tricks with my 5 month old rabbit Yogi, although I always be sure since I am a new rabbit owner to check if each product is safe for my rabbit, and I thought since it is from the binky bunny store it should be safe?

I’m just wondering if any of you have fed your rabbits with honey in them, because I just want to be sure, Thanks!

I do remember a recipe for cookies (rabbit treat) years ago that had honey in it. It was on the HRS website.

If you are concerned about the sugar, do give them sparingly. You may even be able to break them up into smaller pieces and give those, especially for training purposes.

Olly has had treats here with honey in them, BB doesn’t send items here to the UK, if BB is selling tings like that I’m sure its safe to break up and give tiny pieces to your rabbit.

I’m sure BB wouldn’t sell you anything that will harm Yogi.

I wouldn’t personally give anything with honey in it. It’s completely unnecessary.

I’m certain Jen wouldn’t sell anything that’s bad for bunnies, but all treats should be given in moderation. Treats are, from a nutritional standpoint, of course completely unnecessary.

I’ve notified Jen, she’ll get back to you, but it’s 2.24 am in Calif right now so she’s probably sleeping.

Unfortunately, I happen to be an extreme night owl for the last few weeks. (It’s highly annoying actually). In regards to the cookies, while they do have honey included in ingredients, it’s a very small amount. American Pet Diner is the brand and they are a company that we do trust. Over the 11 years we have had a store, APDs products have had wonderful feedback from bunny owners. I recommend you also contact APD directly too. Like Oxbow, Sherwood and other similar companies, they are always willing to answer customer questions and address concerns.

With that said, as with any processed treat, like bunny cookies, you always need to give in moderation. One thing too that can happen is one ingredient can be easily demonized because,of course, if you gave too much it, it would not be a good thing. Even raw natural foods that might be higher in sugars or starches….like bananas, apples, carrots, berries, should be given as a treat in moderation. While none of those are necessary nutritionaly, it can be enjoyable for both bunny and human, as long as not overdone. I love watching Aria run around like a nutty bunny, even doing binkies as she hears the “crinkle” of a treat package or smells raw banana. It’s a fun bonding thing for us as well. And I alternate with treats and give in limited amounts. Like a cookie one day, two blueberries another day, a carrot another day, small banana slice on another…and so on.

Some rabbits’ gi systems are more sensitive than others. I have had a rabbit who couldn’t even tolerate cilantro very well, and another who had calcium sensitivities and pellets were out of the question. So you have to figure out what is best for your bunny. And there are different views on how strict you should be with treats (and what kind you should offer). You can just about search any ingredient on the net it seems and find something scary, so you have to be careful with that aspect too.

And I always tell people if you still feel concerned, regardless, you just go with what makes you feel comfortable. Better not to fret.

The APD treats are ones that I have been using for my bunnies for years, along with Oxbow treats. I do give them sparingly and I cut them in half. The Oxbow treats can be broken in half, but the APD treats are thicker and need to be cut with a knife.

The APD pumpkin cookies smell so good, and I have always been tempted to eat one myself.

My buns love those cookies. A small amount as a treat is fine. Like white sugar for us. Okay in small amounts.

My bunnies love those cookies, but they’re very thick for training. I might use a pellet at a time, or a raisin, then when you’re done mybe one cookie as a final reward treat.
