My neighbors daughter has a bunny.    A very energetic Rex.   She has seen mine and we talked about rabbit care and chewing wires.

She isn’t working right now and is staying in her boyfriends moms other house and finishing her schooling.  She is looking for work

She had asked me about finding a new home for her rabbit.        I asked why.   She said she doesn’t have time for him.   HE stays in his cage a lot cuz he chews the wires.

I get the impression since they dont’ have 2 good jobs n $ coming in right now like they need that they can’t really afford wire covers like I showed them I have.     OR it is just too awkward to put them on his game  stuff and it is all over the floor.  Wire covers would make it hard to use the games and all what not.

Ok….. So after giving her 2 rabbit rescue #s and stuff her mom called and we discussed craigslist.   No one responded.  The fosters are full

Then I started thinking.   So when I saw her visiting her mom agian I asked if she had a pen for the rabbit to play in so he can’t get to the wires would she keep him .   She said yes.

Having an extra xpen I dont’ need I brought it down.   She said it is too big for the house but she can put it outside so he can play.  They still haven’t paid me for it.  I know they will though.     Besides if it keeps the bunny in his home thats enuf for me.

So I talked to her mom who lives in my building the other day.    She said that rabbit is so happy.    They set him up in the back yard and sat n watched him.   HE went crazy   he ran n ran   dug n ran some more.    They are so happy about this.   They felt bad him stuck in his cage all the time.  Besides I made it really cheap 20.00 for the xpen.

I did tell her about  spaying him would calm him down a lot and where to go but the humane society they called it and they dont ‘do it no more or only on rabbits being adopted from them I forget.    But  in the future they just might .         When they both have good jobs.

That’s great that you helped them find a solution so that their rabbit doesn’t have to be rehomed! Just a word of advice though; when the rabbit is outside they might want to make sure no predators, flying or otherwise, can get to him. Also, it sounds like he’s a digger…that’s great as long as he doesn’t dig his way out of the xpen

I did mention these things to them.    I worry when they are outside like that.

Yes, BT, there are so many hawks here in FL that I worry about that too. One easy solution immediately available would be taking an old sheet and stretching it over the top of the xpen, then using clamps or twist ties (cut tiny holes to get them through) to attach it to the edges. A white one would let in indirect sunlight, too.

A wire cover would be better, like the kind sold in rolls at Home Depot. Very nice of you to let them have it. I thought you were going to say you had a new member of your house!

lol    no RP   no new bunny.   I  just don’t have the room n keeping them all seperated and making sure they get enuf attention 2 is all I can handle  though I would love more buns.

more than 2 never work out for me.        sadly

Yes we did discuss clipping a sheet over the pen and snakes birds etc.    I think they did put a sheet with clothespens when he played.

They dont leave him out there by himself.   It has been rainy so he hasn’t been able to play outside.  Poor fellow.  When it clears up though he will get to play outside.
