Hi all,
I’m new here and just had a few questions about my rabbit’s behaviour.
Myself and my boyfriend bought our baby girl Harley from a pet store a week ago. I owned 4 rabbits when I was younger however these had all been adopted and were older bunnies. From what I can remember, they were all calm, gentle bunnies that loved to sit with me and have cuddles.
My boyfriend had two bunnies about 3 years ago however they have both passed now. He said these were both calm bunnies too.
The best way I can describe Harley is hyperactive. She is about 9 weeks old and is a crossbreed although they couldn’t confirm the exact breeds in the pet shop.
Last Saturday when we brought her home she was extremely nervous and understandably spent the night exploring her cage and making it home. Sunday we had my nephew round who is only just 3 so we let him feed her a treat but then put her back in her cage as we didn’t want him scaring her in her new home.
Monday I had the day off work so I came down early and left her cage open and spent the day with her in the living room. She was out and exploring all day and even jumped on and off the sofa. I have never seen a bunny with so much energy! She literally spent all day darting around, sniffing everything, binkying, licking me, chewing everything in sight! I had expected her to still be nervous however within an hour she was jumping on and off me and licking me.
Since then she spends the day in her cage whilst myself and my boyfriend are at work, then in the evening she has about 4 / 5 hours of freedom in the living room. She just seems to never stop and I wondered if this was normal? She will stop and rest (on her belly with her back legs sticking out behind her) for about 5 / 10 minutes but then she will be off again. She also pees and poops on one sofa however we have bought a spray to remove her scent from this and we will be attempting to litter train her.
I get exhausted just watching her to be honest, she zips around the living room so fast and is very inquisitive and loves chewing. Is this normal for young bunnies and does it seem like she is happy? My previous rabbits seemed lazy in comparison to Harleyquinn!
