For the Americans, Happy Thanksgiving! How was your day?

Our day was a little nuts. My FMIL is allergic to all pets, so we had our dog and Navi in the basement, which is no big deal, because they don’t care about each other’s prescence.

Well, then my little cousin and aunt arrive – with their dog, which they had not mentioned bringing. So their dog goes down in the basement with the other animals. After about 5 minutes, her dog is barking… and barking… and barking. I finally walked downstairs to see him trying to get at Navi (who is shut in her cage), and she’s charging at him every time he comes near the cage >.<. Poor bun, but she really didn't seem phased. I had to drape blankets over her cage to give her some privacy. Eventually, my cousin produced an outdoor tie from the car (I don't understand why she didn't get it as soon as I said he couldn't be upstairs because of FMIL's allergies - or again as soon as he was pestering Navi) and he stayed outside the rest of the afternoon.

I’m still trying to figure out the logic of bringing their dog without warning – I’d mentioned previously that FMIL is allergic to animals and we were vacuuming like crazy so that she wouldn’t be absolutely miserable all through dinner.

This was also my first thanksgiving as a vegan. I made vegan mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, Gardien turk’y, cresent rolls, stuffing, cranberry relish and amaretto carrots, plus my FMIL brought a vegetable dish that she’d left the cheese out of the recipe for me! I’m lucky to have a FMIL who cares Everyone else had actual turkey plus something else that was not vegan that I didn’t pay any attention to. With all the options, I was suprised when my fiance’s uncle picked up some vegan mac n cheese, and then went back for more! My fiance and FFIL also surprised me by eating pretty generous portions and clearing their plates of it! I think my grandma had some too, but I wasn’t really paying attention because she was sitting so far away from me.

My Thanksgiving was great! I went to my aunt and uncle’s house, and spent a lot of time with my cousins who are 3 and 5 years old. Food was yummy, but no turkey or gravy for me this year. Oh and my aunt’s brother (by marriage, not blood lol) I met is literally like the most attractive person personality and looks wise I have ever met. Too bad he’s errrmm 16 years older than me so that’s a no go. Darn. Bhahah.

Mine was unusual but not very exciting. I’m tearing out my kitchen so I was off the hook for cooking this year. We had a great turkey dinner late in the afternoon at Denny’s, visited with other diners and the waitress. (was proud of my son, besides the tip, we pooled some money to leave her a suprise, he’s gotten really sensitive about that since he’s been working at Subway)

Found a few geocaches in places that have always been hard to search because of all the people normally around.

Talked my son into coming with me to my vet to help walk dogs for an hour. He kept coming out with these cute little dogs and I kept getting the huge, rowdy labs that wanted to drag me in the dirt behind them…lol. She normally has plenty of volunteers but on the holidays she’s always short on people, so I got to take a couple out and check out the new dog park she built and donated next to her clinic. It’s awsome.

I’m thankful for my family, my pets, my friends here and everywhere. I miss my Jim terribly even after 8 years but I appreciate always feeling he’s watching over me.

And way up in the list should be Mr and Mrs Binky Bunny who provide this lovely place for us to come and act nutty about our bunnies!!!!

I didn’t celebrate Thanksgiving today with my family or friends.

Being alone in house with pets is better than going out with my family.

I had a pretty calm evening at the Boyfriend’s family’s house (my family’s dinner is tomorrow) until… we go back to get his computer mouse that he forgot and found a loose dog, well she found us. And we couldn’t just leave her there (no one knew who she belonged to). So, in short we had to find her home and return her which was NOT easy at 12:30 at night. I’m just glad I helped save a pregnant momma even if I did freeze a little, it was worth it.

My Thanksgiving was good. Went over to my aunt’s. I have a sinus infection and am not feeling good so I only went for a few hours. Basically I ate and left. lol I came home, snuggled Lolli and then took a nap.

Lis – I do not understand bringing your pet to other people’s houses without first asking if it’s ok either. IMO, it’s irresponsible pet ownership. You don’t know how your dog will act in someone else’s house or how their pets will act. And obviously the dog had some issues. lol

Mine was good! As an immigrant family we don’t really have Thanksgiving traditions, but it’s nice being home from school for a few days to see family and Remy. Speaking of which, I really need to get my mom to stop feeling sorry for his empty food bowl and overfeeding him, haha. He’s getting a little round . I got to see Peppy and Milo yesterday too, so my Thanksgiving break has been bunny-filled and by default pretty good .

I did the same thing as Nobody….I stayed home alone with my pets! They’re actually great company. I have strep or a really bad sore throat so I wasn’t feeling well and in addition I didn’t want to deal with my sister so I stayed home and did some long overdue cleaning, read, watched TV & puttered around. I usually go to my parents house on Friday nights anyway so I’ll see them tonight sans sister. Not much shopping for me this year beyond the basic necessities….times are tough!

I stayed home and played video games with boyfriend and watched the bunnies do binkies and bunny 500s. They got a thanksgiving salad and I had veggie pizza.

My family is all like 1,000 miles away and I can’t really afford to travel that far, plus none of them really celebrate holidays anyway (Witnesses) so … no worries on that front.

Hmm. I can understand the dog is part of the family, don’t go anywhere without it, but they should have made arrangements since they didn’t know how your pets and theirs would react together.

Mine was good, but I can do with out the judgmental tones and the snide comments I get because while everyone eats a turkey I eat my Tofurkey. :/ It is my choice to be a vegetarian, but people have to still be rude to me about it and believe the hype that vegetarian food is gross. :/

I don’t give others crap about what they eat, I could careless, but for some reason they have to give me crap and if I snap back I’m the jerk. :/

Mandyyy – I know what you mean. I went through similar situation for 9 years. Then I become vegan. I get more complaining comments than usually.

By the way, Tofurkey turkey product is vegan

Nobody, at least someone understands! Haha. I would imagine Vegans get it worse. :/ I’m sorry about the ignorant comments.

Yeah I eat mostly vegan foods, unless I’m making a vegetarian cheese burger or something. We tend to buy vegan. I actually rarely eat diary/egg products. Honestly, it wouldn’t be too hard for me to go vegan, but I’m planing on waiting till I move out so can I buy my own food and such.

Don’t worry about ignorant comments. I’m used to it since like I was a preschool kid.

Yep wasn’t hard to go vegan. I went through similar situation, too. I waited for four years to move out. Then I became vegan.

For your information.. Bocca company isn’t vegan even though bocca bugers stated it’s vegan. One smoking cig. company bought Kraft which bought Bocca. That company did horrible animal testing.. included rabbits. I got upset after I found out. I didn’t know for many years. Then I switch to Lightlife or morning star or tofurky for meat products.

Oh, I’m a morning star girl myself. Haha. That’s my favorite “meat” product company. I also like Qourn, but they aren’t vegan (they use egg whites).

Ha, yeah, I like the fact that people give me flak about the fact I don’t eat meat, but I don’t tell anyone else how to eat… they just for some reason get all defensive when I say “I am a vegetarian” as a reasoning why I am not eating a specific dish (would they rather I say “that is really gross and disgusting”?). And we non-meat eaters get the rep for telling other people how to eat / giving everyone a hard time about eating meat. *rollseyes* But, it is best to just ignore it. What each person chooses to do or not do is none of anyone elses business, unless it hurts them in some way (which diet choices don’t, unless you’re a cannibal! ).

I get annoyed at the vegetarians and vegans htat get on my case for NOT being like they are, so I get snappy sometimes at the people that judge me for it. I hate it when people get all in my face about animal rights etc etc… I’m an omnivore, deal with it lol.

That said, me and my hubby stayed home for turkey day, we were supposed to go to his family’s, but he got sick and we didn’t want to risk the others getting sick. So yesterday morning I went and brought the bunnies at OHS some tasty greens for their thanksgiving dinner

Well, let’s me honest, it’s not about the meal, it’s about the people who we share it with. Try not to turn it into a negative thing and try to celebrate :~)

I was sick the night before so I was still miserable on Thanksgiving Day. I was sad about this because I was happy to be with my Mom and her friends, my hubby and yes, even my annoying brother and his wife LOL. I wish I had felt better so I could have enjoyed it more. I love spending time with my Mom and my Aunt Betty is in town so I really wanted to enjoy it. Unfortunately, I enjoyed it, but I still felt like crap.

Monkey, that is understandable… but we get the same treatment from meat eaters, with no provocation. It’s dumb on both sides, let people eat what they want! lol

Monkeybun, I don’t get on anyone’s case about my beliefs and diet. People are allowed to eat what they want. My point is that people get on MY case for not eating meat, and then when I snap back I’m the self righteous vegetarian. I’m a vegetarian, my body, teeth and everything else was made the herbivore way. I’m also much healthier as a vegetarian, yet people want to rag on my diet habits. I’m a vegetarian, deal with it.

Eat meat, no ones shoving it down your throat not to. I just made a comment that it’s one of those holidays that people learn “oh you’re a vegetarian” then they give you crap about your health, your food and your diet.

Oh Liz.  When I was married to Brandons Dad his bro would bring that stupid dog.  All it did was bark.  We kept our 2 in the bedroom.   The guests had no manners as far as letting that big ol nasty dog of theirs stay while we were eating.

Drool hanging out its mouth then it would shake  and the drool would fly onto someone’s plate or in their face.  Disgusting.  I woudl tell my sons father to tell them not to bring that damn dog.  Finally they came one year and didn’t bring it .  Plus the drugs too I called and told the relatives thats not allowed keep it in their house and away from mine.

They quit coming.  Fine with me.

We had a quiet thanksgiving. We really don’t celebrate it.   I did go down to the dinner we had here for the community on friday.  It was a very  good meal.

I do have a lot to be thankful for this whole year.

Monkeybun- I know, I know a lot of self righteous vegetarians (like that crazy Onision from youtube), but I think us vegetarians get it a bit more just because of groups like Peta that makes us all look like loons. A lot of people who are omnivore do it without realizing it too, so that’s why I’m called the jerk when I make a comment back (even if the comment wasn’t snappy or rude). Some people don’t even realize that their little side comments can be hurtful and seen rude to us. :/
