So about 2 months ago, I brought my new bunny home who then proceeded to give birth a few days later. The babies grew up to be healthy and have now been separated from their mother to prevent more accidents Now that Paisley (the mom) is done nursing, what would be the best way to transition from the unlimited alfalfa pellets back to a hay-based diet with a couple tbsp of Timothy-based pellets?
        Thank you!!

I’d just give her 1/2 cup of alfalfa pellets mixed with a small amount of timothy pellets. Our adult rabbits at the shelter only get 1/4 cup of timothy pellets a day, so I’d be comfortable starting mama on 1/2 cup, but I’ve never done this so someone else might have a better measurement idea to start with.
Anyway, you cut back on the alfalfa pellets and add half of what you cut back in alfalfa with timothy pellets. The key is to decrease alfalfa and slowly replace with timothy.
This is to ensure a sensitive or picky rabbit doesnt notice the change.

I personally have not had to deal with this (although we did recently have 12 lots born at the shelter), but that’s what I would do.
