How to Make Travel Less Stressful

I’m moving myself and my bunnies to a new place in a couple of weeks. My pair are used to their carrier (due to an insane amount of vet visits) but that’s only ever been a 20-30 minute journey in the car tops(So about an hour round trip journey time and then a further 40 minutes in the clinic on a busy day). We are moving somewhere that is 2  train journeys and a 10 minute walk away so in all,nearly three hours in their carrier. 
Unfortunately I will be required to make the journey home every few weeks, with the two of them in tow, and I was wondering has anyone got any experience with transporting bunnies ?

I had considered leaving them at home and traveling back to them on weekends, but after a 2 week trial while I was on holidays, it resulted in them very unhappy and unwell and I promised I wouldn’t do that to them(or the person minding them!) ever again. 
Obviously I want to make the experience as non horrible as possible for them!

My boy also suffers from Pasturella, and anytime he gets upset badly it resurfaces. This is probably my biggest worry. There is a vet just opposite where I’ll be living, with staff who specialize in rabbits and other small exotics, so I find that reassuring. 
I’ve tried him on Biolapis probiotics which he refuses straight up (I’ve been finding it hard to get hold of probiotics in Ireland for him, but I’ll presevre (I have it in my head it will help stop the outbreaks )

I’d also be really interested to hear experiences of people traveling frequently with their rabbits. I just moved and have a long distance boyfriend so I will be making some trips anywhere from 4 to 6 hours one way and then back in a few days on a monthly basis.

From my move, my experience with my two buns was that they are freaked out most of the time while traveling. I put hay in the carrier and periodically offer veggies. They eventually do eat a couple veggies but don’t really get an appetite until we get to our destination. Once I arrive, I try to get them settled in their space as quickly as possible and give them pellets and veggies and make sure they start nibbling. My boyfriend’s bun is different, he’s mostly unfazed by the travel experience and just flops in his carrier and eagerly gobbles up any veggies offered.
