I recently moved out of an apartment and back into my parent’s house for the time being, and I am now crammed into a little bedroom with my bunny. In the apartment, she was able to run around the entire living room and dining room area. There was lots of space for her. Now that we are stuck in a little room, she has limited space and is not able to necessarily sprint around like she used to. She’s able to hop around and play with her toys and boxes that I have set out, but I’m afraid that she needs more space to actually run…

My parent’s have dogs, so I’m unable to let her free in the house. I really do not want to have to give her up for adoption, however I feel really bad for her limited space now. And I also am starting to feel very constrained and obligated to stay in my room while she’s out playing… I leave her by herself to do little things, but when I was in my apartment I was able to easily go about my chores while keeping an eye on her because everything was in the vicinity of her play area (laundry, kitchen, bathroom, etc.).

Just looking for advice on what to do to make the most of our confined space.

Side note: She has pretty big cage which makes me more at ease when I’m at work. Just looking for advice on playtime outside of her cage.

          Hi Bun Bun,

My bun lives in a pretty small area as well, my studio apartment is 20 m2.
I made it possible for him to run underneath the bed and couch to get some extra running space.

Is it possible to set up a Xpen/playpen in the living room so your bun can still be safe but run around?
or maybe in the garden or balcony?

When Im with my bunny at my parents im always giving the dog attention so the bunny can do his own thing in the living room.
My dog is a pitbull she is pretty well behaved, only thing she really finds difficult is to see the bunny getting some treats she can’t have.

Do you have a hallway at your parents? My bun stays there or in my old bedroom whenever we’re going out.

And the best tip for a small space is to switch up your bunny setup a lot, so she won’t get bored easily.

          Best wishes!

Thanks for the advice! I will have to look into getting an x-pen for her to go outside or to go into the living room downstairs. Do x-pens break down easily to move out of the way when she’s not in it? My parent’s house is pretty crammed as is.

Also, I will have to work on training her to hop in her kennel when I want to go downstairs. She will not let me pick her up!

yes Xpens do break down easily, you have different types though. Mine you have to break down in 6 pieces, some you can just fold up while the parts are still connected.

you can also put a basket or her litter box near her, throw in some treats and make her go in. Then carry her with litter box/basket all in once.

              Good luck!
